Bhopal to get first fish restaurant, Halali Dam to become reservoir fisheries cluster
Indore: Madhya Pradesh's Reservoir Fisheries Production & Processing Cluster, located in Halali Dam near Bhopal, will be virtually inaugurated from Indore during the National Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Meet on Friday.
This first-of-its-kind event in an inland state aims to significantly boost fish production in regions without sea access.
Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, will preside over the inauguration in the presence of chief minister Mohan Yadav. This cluster is one of 17 such initiatives identified by the central govt across the country, designed to leverage regional aquaculture strengths.
The CM highlighted the unique nature of the Indore meeting, emphasizing its focus on enhancing fisheries production in landlocked states. Only representatives from states not engaged in marine fisheries activities are participating. The meet will see the participation of fisheries ministers and senior officials from around 20 states across India.
"As per Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's directives to promote fish export, the national meeting in Indore will feature technical sessions on various experiments being conducted in different Indian states.
Experts from national institutions like ICAR-CIFRI, ICAR-CIFA, and NFDB will deliver presentations on the latest global techniques in fish production," state fisheries department's MD Nidhi Nivedita said.
She added that topics covered in these sessions will include reservoir leasing policies, modern methods of fish farming in rivers and ponds, and the potential for cold-water aquaculture. The state govt's initiatives are contributing to an increase in the income of fisherfolk. Furthermore, all activities related to fisheries in Madhya Pradesh are being diligently pursued to achieve the Vision 2047 goals, with particular emphasis on input supply, post-harvest management, processing, and product export, the MD said.
Meanwhile, the state fisheries department is set to open its first 'fish restaurant' in Bhopal, which will offer fish foods of different varieties along with selling ornamental fishes to the visitors.
