These are the 15 best cities in Asia for 2025, according to nearly 180,000 travellers

We all have our opinions on the best cities in Asia – Resonance Consultancy included factors like lovability and prosperity while Time Out turned to thousands of locals worldwide for an insider perspective of what it's like to live, work, and play in their hometowns. This time, Travel + Leisure (T+L) turned to their readers to find out which cities impressed them the most during their travels. Almost 180,000 T+L readers rated cities worldwide on their sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and value on a five-point scale from Poor to Excellent. The result? 15 standout Asian cities, hailing from Indonesia and Cambodia to Japan and South Korea. The absolute best city in Asia for T+L readers may be surprising (simply because it's more low-key than its ever-popular capital). It's none other than Chiang Mai, a city in Thailand's relatively cool and mountainous north. Once the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, Chiang Mai is home to cultural relics from that era, alongside intricate and beautiful Buddhist temples. T+L readers also love its night markets, street food, and nature activities – think ethical elephant encounters and mountain hikes. It's also a place for creatives, with beautiful boutique hotels, dynamic coworking spaces, and a lively university scene. Check out our guide for the best things to do in Chiang Mai. There are nine countries represented on the T+L Best Cities list, and Japan takes the cake with three entries: Tokyo (#2), Kyoto (#6), and Osaka (#11). Tokyo, in particular, stood out for the sheer variety of things to do in its magical maze of a city. At the same time, Kyoto stole hearts with its food, cultural landmarks, and family-friendly nature. India also makes a strong showing, with the famous Pink City of Jaipur at #4, Bollywood capital Mumbai at #9, and Mughal cultural heart Agra at #10. The 2025 America's Best Cities list is here—see which city came out on top

Start spreading the news: New York City has once again snagged the title of America's Best City, topping Resonance Consultancy's prestigious 2025 ranking for the ninth year running. The Big Apple is on a winning streak and it's not just because of the pizza. In a moment when American cities are grappling with everything from climate volatility to housing crises, New York stands tall—literally and figuratively—claiming the No. 1 spot across all three of Resonance's key metrics: Livability, Lovability and Prosperity. In short, that means the city is thriving, dazzling and making money while it's at it. New York ranks in first place for both culture and landmarks, fueled by a comeback of Broadway, blockbuster museum exhibits and more than a few Michelin stars. The city welcomed nearly 65 million visitors in 2024, and while international travel is projected to dip this year, NYC is betting big on 2026's FIFA World Cup Final and major infrastructure upgrades to turn the tide. With a skyline that's still growing, a hospitality sector revving back to life and a talent pool that's as deep as its subway tunnels, New York isn't just back—it never left. 'This recognition is a testament to the enduring appeal of the five boroughs,' said New York City Tourism + Conventions CEO Julie Coker, noting that the city's cultural and economic vibrancy are still drawing the world in droves. Elsewhere on this year's list, New York's West Coast cousin Los Angeles claimed the No. 2 spot: "While wildfires, water scarcity and housing affordability remain challenges, the macro bet is clear: a once-in-a-lifetime convergence of mega-events, climate-friendly rail, adaptive reuse policies and institutional capital is resetting Los Angeles's value proposition," reads the ranking. And rounding out the top three is Chicago, IL, which is "firing on all cylinders" as of late with "an expanding talent pool and relative affordability." Glasgow ranked in top 30 of best European cities

The city was placed 28th — the third highest in the UK — in new rankings released by Resonance Consultancy. Glasgow's entry states the city powers into the top 100 on 'the strength of education', as the 'planet's #6 spot for educated citizenry' and a world-renowned university — the University of Glasgow. It adds tech start-ups hungry for cheap space and talent are 'drawn to the city's working-class authenticity over pricier European capitals, even though the business investment metrics have yet to reflect the influx'. READ MORE: Nicola Sturgeon objects to illegal HMO as locals complain about 'sex party' noises The city ranks 94th for GDP per capita and 42nd for large companies headquartered in the city, and the report adds Glasgow is 'among the UK's fastest-rising property markets and new hotels are planned for the rest of the decade'. 'But it's not like Glasgow has gone corporate,' it states, ranking it in the top 25 for culture, and adding: 'This is the home of Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland, and Glasgow is still buzzing from its 2020 designation as the UK's top cultural and creative city by the European Commission.' London came in at number one on the list while Edinburgh took 18th position. Dublin is at 22. Cllr Aitken said: 'Glasgow's top 30 ranking in the list of Europe's Best Cities is another remarkable endorsement of our ongoing transformation as a city working to address the legacies of our post-industrial history and recognition of the strides we continue to make — on our streets and in our neighbourhoods and on the international stage. 'Resonance's rankings of the world and Europe's best cities carry genuine influence and credibility. They inform global investment decisions, economic development and international tourism. READ MORE: Glasgow museum 'will need £80 million worth of work over next 11 years' She added: 'I'm sure that Glasgow's prominence in this latest report will show what our city has to offer to new international audiences. 'We know that our universities and reputation as a centre of culture and creativity have been critical to Glasgow's profile. But I'm particularly pleased to see distinct attributes including our authenticity and values have been recognised as key selling points for our city.' Glasgow has previously been listed in the world's top 100 cities by Resonance Consultancy, an advisor on tourism, real estate and economic development. The top 10 cities in Europe were London, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague and Stockholm. Glasgow was between Zurich (27) and Krakow (29).
