The video, captured during a late-night traffic stop in Fairmont, West Virginia, shows Retton slurring her speech, appearing unsteady, and struggling through multiple field sobriety tests. She is ultimately arrested and later charged with non-aggravated DUI, a misdemeanor for first-time offenders in the state. She pled no contest, paid a $100 fine, and was released on $1,500 bond. Retton later issued an apology through her attorney, taking full responsibility for her actions. The footage has circulated widely online and drawn renewed attention to the incident due to Retton's public profile and past health struggles.
