Death in Paradise fans 'work out' Mervin's real identity in huge twist

Death in Paradise fans are convinced that they have worked out a huge crossover twist ahead of the show's fifteenth series after a major clue was spotted in a recent episode. After the nail-biting finale of Death in Paradise, BBC fans are buzzing with anticipation for the series return and what twists await DI Mervin Wilson (portrayed by Don Gilet). With series 15 imminent, speculation is rife about a potential crossover following a tantalising clue seen in the latest episode. ‌ Furthermore, brewing excitement follows the development of two spin-off shows: Beyond Paradise set in Shipton Abbott and Return to Paradise situated in Australia, which debuted last November 2024. ‌ Having wrapped its first six episodes, the latter has commenced production in April and promises a comeback later this year. A few eagle-eyed fans have spotted a significant connection between characters, raising suspicions of a future shared storyline. An inquisitive fan dissected the plot on Reddit, divulging: "Some time after Mervin Wilson is born, Dorna Bray gets together with Mr Clarke, and they have a child called Solomon. "The relationship doesn't work out, Mr Clarke then moves to Australia, gets together with a new partner, and they have a daughter called Mackenzie!" The theory was expounded: "I'm just suggesting that maybe Solomon Clarke is half-brother to Mervin and on the other side half-brother to Mackenzie, Death in Paradise/Return to Paradise crossover!!" ‌ Another enthusiast concurred, expressing: "That would be cool ... That would be nice for Mervin, going from being alone to now having a sibling or siblings." DI Mervin joined the detective squad in series 14 to probe into his mum, Dorna's (Judith Jacob) mysterious demise, reports the Express. ‌ Upon unearthing her killer, the series finale saw Mervin uncover that he had a half-brother named Solomon Clarke residing in Antigua, providing the detective with a reason to remain on the Caribbean isle. Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) is the pivotal character of Return to Paradise and the chief detective of the Australian team. While Solomon only made an appearance in a letter and has yet to be cast, the forthcoming instalment could see him become the connection between Mevin and Mackenzie.

Discussing his departure with OK!, Ardal O'Hanlon said, "I suppose I didn't think I'd be doing anything for a fourth series. I really thought three series would be the max, you know." He elaborated on the challenges of the role: "Because it's quite a demanding show... It's a tough old show in terms of being away from home for so long and in terms of the conditions that you film in the heat and the humidity." Ardal also touched on the impact on his family life: "I think [Melanie - his wife] found it very tough because we've got three big grown-up kids living in the house and she's got a lot on her plate, so I think she was finding it tougher as the years went on. And I was missing them all hugely as well, so I think it made sense."
