Reuben Owen's girlfriend shares true feelings about his family

Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales showcases the young entrepreneur as he tackles the refurbishment of his Thwaite cottage, co-owned with his dad Clive, among other ventures in the Dales. One part of the TV show highlighted Reuben teaming up with his girlfriend Jessica, who comes from a nearby farming family, on a project. He called upon Jessica's skills to help design and construct a sheep pen at a substantial farm. After setting out the initial designs for the pen, the couple each took charge of a digger to begin the groundwork. In a heartfelt confession to the camera, Jessica beamed as she spoke about her eight-month relationship with Reuben, whom she met at a young farmers' event, reports the Manchester Evening News. "Ever since we first met, we just clicked. I think it's because I'm from a farming background, so's Reuben," she told the audience. The 21-year-old farmer then gushed over her beau and his kin, who are known from their appearances on Our Yorkshire Farm. Jessica expressed: "I just love him to bits. Love his family, get on great with them." Reuben echoed Jessica's warm feelings, later revealing his thoughts on their partnership and commending his girlfriend's agricultural talents. Reuben said: "Me and Jess have been together a while now. We're always working together on all sorts of different things. She's absolutely brilliant on any piece of kit, really." He cheekily continued: "I haven't found anything that's beaten her, yet!" In one episode of the Channel 5 programme viewers witness Reuben beginning his cottage restoration venture, leaving him stunned by the enormity of the challenge alongside his pals. The property, purchased as a shared venture with his dad Clive, has had its renovation schemes put on hold owing to Reuben's thriving business commitments. Reuben revealed he has no plans to live in the cottage himself, instead aiming to flog it so he can snap up another property.

The docuseries captures Reuben as he develops his burgeoning heavy plant machinery enterprise amidst the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, with his family and mates by his side. In the latest episode, the onset of spring brought a flurry of activity to the Dales. The crew set out to tackle Reuben's hefty order of cropped stones, finishing a hundred tonnes by hand in an old quarry before heading to a local family-run stone merchant for some expert advice, reports the Manchester Evening News. At the same time, Reuben's partner Jess was swamped with work due to the start of lambing season at her family's farm. Trouble struck when Reuben and Jess, while navigating the fields, spotted a newborn lamb in urgent need of attention. "I don't think that ewe is letting that lamb suck, she keeps turning when he's trying to suck," noted Jess. They quickly examined the lamb to determine if it had been feeding properly and whether it required further care. "This lamb was born about an hour ago, and he hasn't sucked. He's got cold and just laid and shivered. She hasn't really licked him either," Jess detailed as she tended to the lamb. In a race against time, Jess and Reuben rushed to save a lamb as the distressed ewe's newborn desperately needed its first milk to survive. Reuben stressed the significance saying: "This will be the most important meal of his life." Jess urgently pointed out that the lamb had to get the colostrum swiftly because it's packed with essential antibodies from the mother. Without it, she warned, the young one could fall prey to the potentially fatal watery mouth disease. With palpable relief, Jess announced the success: "Once his belly's full then it'll be great. I was panicked because I thought if she goes in there with sixty sheep, they won't know who she is." Reuben praised Jess for her quick thinking and lifesaving actions, affectionately praising: "That's another little life saved, well done darling." After ensuring the lamb was well fed, Jess made sure it was dry and warm indoors, in preparation to rejoin the flock outdoors.
