'Gritty' BBC drama with Outlander star gets new streaming home after huge update
The 'alluring' BBC drama has landed on another streaming platform. A "dark" and "alluring" BBC drama is set to arrive on Netflix, ready to captivate a fresh audience of devoted followers. Rebus, the second television adaptation of Sir Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus novels, features Outlander star Richard Rankin portraying the eponymous detective. Whilst navigating personal turmoil surrounding his divorce proceedings, Rebus finds himself charged with dismantling a criminal organisation operating in Edinburgh. The ensemble cast, led by Roger Wakefield Mackenzie actor Richard, also features Lucie Shorthouse, Thoren Ferguson, Caroline Lee-Johnson and Sean Buchanan. This six-episode series follows ITV's previous adaptation which aired between 2000 and 2007, starring Ken Stott in the lead role, reports the Express. The BBC's Rebus has achieved remarkable success, attracting 6.3million viewers across all platforms since debuting on BBC iPlayer in 2024. Just last month, the production claimed three RTS Scotland awards for outstanding drama, writing and direction, whilst also securing a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One enthusiastic viewer declared: "I watched it on BBC iPlayer and think it was sensational. Acting brilliant and storylines caught the Edinburgh scene perfectly." Another glowing five-star review stated: "Excellent show. Dark and gritty but with humour. Acting and casting was inspired. Not bad to have a backdrop of Edinburgh. The relationship with Rebus and his brother was particularly moving." A third admirer commented: "Loved both previous Rebus series. This is a very very good incarnation. Tremendous twist at the end. Very well put together." "Best thing I've watched in about 3yrs. Proper gritty, hardcore Scottish drama," one viewer enthused. Another critic was full of praise, stating: "Part of what makes this Rebus so alluring is down to the beautifully concise manner in which the actor who plays him conveys his haphazard competence, his stoicism and feral endurance. He is so believable." Further acclaim came from another reviewer who said: "Richard Rankin is so perfectly believable in the role that you never tire of watching him and keep rooting for him even when he's being a complete and utter idiot." The announcement of Rebus joining Netflix follows shortly after the BBC confirmed the show would be back for a second series, with Richard set to return in the titular role. Outlander stars reunite at Richard Rankin's luxurious Scottish wedding
The Outlander cast recently reunited to celebrate the marriage of Scots actor Richard Rankin to his wife Sammie Russell The Outlander cast have reunited to celebrate the wedding of Richard Rankin and Sammie Russell who recently tied the knot in a luxurious wedding that is thought to have taken place in South Queensferry. Scots actor Richard, who plays Claire and Jamie Fraser's son-in-law Roger in the hit Starz series, invited several of his co-stars along to his big day which appears to have taken place at Hopetoun House, according to fans. Those in attendance at their nuptials included Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) and Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) who were also joined by Lauren Lyle (Marsali MacKimmie Fraser), John Bell (Young Ian), Joey Phillips (Denzell Hunter), Izzy Meikle-Small (Rachel Hunter), Caitlin O'Ryan (Lizzie Wemyss), Paul Gorman (Josiah and Kezzie Beardsley) and Blood of My Blood actor Jamie Roy. Roy is set to star as Jamie's father, Brian Fraser, in the upcoming Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, with the official trailer for the show which will air on August 8 being released earlier this week. The cast members were seen posing and smiling for a big group snap alongside Richard. However, it seems that Rankin's onscreen wife, Brianna, co-star Sophie Skelton, wasn't in attendance, unless she simply missed the photos with everyone else. It would make sense though that she missed the special occasion as she is currently in production with the I Can Only Imagine sequel, costarring Milo Ventimiglia and more. An Outlander fan account on Instagram that goes by the user @outlanderobsessed shared some snaps and videos from Richard and Sammie's wedding, much to fans' delight. The post read: "Richard Rankin is officially hitched. Looks like the wedding took place at Hopetoun House, where many scenes from Outlander were filmed. Congrats to Richard and Sammi." Among the snaps was one of the newly weds watching a magnificent firework display in the grounds of their venue as Richard took his wife into his arms. Another showed Sam Heughan, like the groom, wearing true Scotsman attire as he posed for some solo snaps in a green tartan kilt, completed with a grey three piece waistcoat and jacket alongside mustard yellow socks and a matching bow tie. The 45-year-old heartthrob, who is the owner of Sassenach Spirits, posed for snaps with a glass of whiskey in his hand. Videos of the cast dancing together were also included in the post. Fans rushed to the comment section as one wrote: "Well, they all kept that quiet! Huge congratulations to Richard and Sammi. Great to see so many of the OL family celebrating together." Another added: "How absolutely wonderful!! How lucky to be married to that hunky guy." A third wrote: "I swear, Sam Heughan cannot take a bad photo. He always looks so charming and handsome." Sophie Skelton's absence did not go missed by fans as someone else questioned: "Was the actress who plays Brianna there?Cant see her." Outlander fans are still awaiting the eighth and final season of Outlander which is likely to be released in late 2025 or early 2026, although no official date has been announced as of yet. However, in the meantime its great to see the cast who have already wrapped up filming are still very close as they await the release of the Outlander finale.

Inspector Rebus to return for second BBC series
The BBC's adaptation of Sir Ian Rankin's best-selling Rebus novels is being renewed for a second series, the broadcaster has Rankin's portrayal of the Edinburgh detective first aired in spring last year in a six-part first episode picked up 6.3m viewers across all platforms and it recently won three RTS Scotland six-part series is being produced by Eleventh Hour Films and is written for the screen by Gregory Burke. The fictional detective's exploits have been told across 25 novels, the first of which was published in estimated 35m Rebus novels have been sold and creator Sir Ian Rankin was knighted in June 2023. The character was previously played by actors John Hannah and Ken Stott, in a series of ITV films between 2000 and 2007.
