"Nothing wrong": Assam LoP Saikia on Congress distributing sanitary pad packets with pictures of Rahul Gandhi
Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 5 (ANI): The Leader of Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, on Saturday justified the move to put pictures of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the packets of sanitary pads, which they are distributing as a part of a welfare scheme. Speaking to ANI, Saikia mentioned that there is nothing wrong with putting pictures on such good initiatives. 'Distributing 5 lakh sanitary pads is just the beginning, and such welfare schemes should be taken up. We have placed the picture of Rahul Gandhi, but there is no reason for the BJP to get angry. Even on tobacco, there are images of celebrities in advertisements. And if, for such a good thing, we are putting up the picture of our leader, then what is the problem?' Saikia asked. Congress had earlier announced the launch of a sanitary pad distribution drive in Bihar. The box has pictures of Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi and party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Speaking on the initiative, All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba claimed that a survey was carried out by her party, in which it was revealed that women in Bihar are still using cloth during menstruation. 'We conducted a survey in Bihar, and shocking figures came out that in today's modern India, women and daughters of Bihar are using cloth during menstruation and are falling prey to serious diseases. Mahila Congress has taken the initiative to give free sanitary vending machines to our mothers, sisters, daughters of Bihar who are using cloth due to unemployment, inflation, poverty and are unable to buy it,' Lamba said. 'We installed machines, gave free training, free machines, free raw material to make 30,000 pads. And today, I am happy to say that the women of Bihar are making these pads; they are getting work and earning a living. We are going to distribute free sanitary pad boxes in the next 2 days,' she added. Earlier, Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday said that if the INDIA bloc comes to power in Bihar after the upcoming assembly elections, it will implement Rajasthan's health model in the state. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Gehlot said, 'The health model we have created in Rajasthan cannot be compared to any other in the entire country. We have also enacted the 'Right to Health' law in Rajasthan, under which every family has been provided with insurance coverage. The Government of India's Ayushman Bharat scheme benefits only a select few, whereas Rajasthan is the only state where we have provided coverage to the entire population of the state.' Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year, in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. (ANI)

Bihar polls: Rajnath Singh to address BJP's state executive meeting tomorrow in Patna
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be addressing the inaugural ceremony of the BJP's state executive meeting in Patna on July 2 ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. As the party gears up for the upcoming elections in the state, Rajnath Singh is set to meet the various leaders of the party in the state, including the MLAs, Members of Parliament, and other party leaders. Earlier on Tuesday, BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia hit out at the Rashtriya Janata Dal and alleged that RJD and Tejashwi Yadav were destroying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea of empowering backwards classes, Dalits, and women, while also being against the Constitution, and their purpose was to implement Sharia Law. 'Those who call themselves 'samajwadi' (socialists) in Bihar, their true face is 'namazwazi'. These 'namazwadi' do not want Babasaheb's Constitution, nor do they respect it. They only want Sharia Law,' Bhatia said. Meanwhile, with the INDIA bloc looking to unseat CM Nitish Kumar, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said on Monday that the alliance will implement Rajasthan's health model in the state if they come to power. 'The health model we have created in Rajasthan cannot be compared to any other in the entire country. We have also enacted the 'Right to Health' law in Rajasthan, under which every family has been provided with insurance coverage,' Gehlot said. He further explained the scheme's benefits: 'Under this scheme, people are being provided free facilities--be it treatment, medicine, or diagnostics. Such a scheme does not exist anywhere else. Therefore, the Rajasthan model should be adopted by every state in the country so that every poor person can benefit.' Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year, in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. In the current Bihar Assembly, comprising of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 members, with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U) having 45, HAM(S) having 4, and the support of 2 Independent Candidates. The Opposition's INDIA Bloc comprises 111 members, with the RJD leading with 77 MLAs, followed by the Congress with 19, the CPI(ML) with 11, the CPI(M) with 2, and the CPI with 2. (ANI)

"INDIA alliance govt in Bihar will implement Rajasthan-like health model": Ashok Gehlot
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 1 (ANI): Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday said that if the INDIA bloc comes to power in Bihar after the upcoming assembly elections, it will implement Rajasthan's health model in the state. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Gehlot said, 'The health model we have created in Rajasthan cannot be compared to any other in the entire country. We have also enacted the 'Right to Health' law in Rajasthan, under which every family has been provided with insurance coverage. The Government of India's Ayushman Bharat scheme benefits only a select few, whereas Rajasthan is the only state where we have provided coverage to the entire population of the state.' Reiterating his party's commitment, Gehlot said, 'Our promise is - As soon as the INDIA alliance government is formed in Bihar, we will implement a health model like Rajasthan here.' He further explained the scheme's benefits: 'Under this scheme, people are being provided free facilities--be it treatment, medicine, or diagnostics. Such a scheme does not exist anywhere else. Therefore, the Rajasthan model should be adopted by every state in the country so that every poor person can benefit. If a government is formed in Bihar, we will implement a similar health model in that state as well.' Gehlot also raised concerns about the health infrastructure in Bihar. 'The condition of the health system in Bihar is concerning. Diseases like diarrhoea, typhoid, TB, HIV, diabetes, cancer, and heart attacks have gripped the people of the state. According to the CAG report, there is a severe shortage of diagnostic equipment in Bihar. There is a lack of equipment supply. The budget allocated by the government is also not being fully utilised,' he said. Comparing it with Rajasthan's approach, he added, 'The Government of India's Ayushman scheme benefits only a small portion of the population. However, according to our health model, treatment and medicines are free in both government and private hospitals. As Chief Minister, I initiated a scheme for free treatment up to 25 lakh, which greatly benefited the people. Additionally, the condition of hospitals also improved. I urge the Government of India to adopt our health model and implement it across the entire country.' (ANI)
