Simarjeet Singh, Digvesh Rathi become top buys at DPL auction
New Delhi: As the Delhi Premier League (DPL) prepares for its second season with two more teams, the players' auction on Sunday saw right-arm pacer Simarjeet Singh, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL this year, emerging as the most expensive buy. Central Delhi Kings secured his services for ₹39 lakh. Simarjeet Singh emerged as the most expensive buy at the Delhi Premier League auction, with Central Delhi Kins buying him for ₹ 39 lakh. (Pti) Close behind was leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi, who impressed during this year's IPL with Lucknow Super Giants. He was picked up by Delhi Superstarz for ₹38 lakh, making him the second-highest purchase in the marquee category. The experienced left-handed batter Nitish Rana went to West Delhi Lions for ₹34 lakh while New Delhi Tigers landed right-arm pacer Prince Yadav for ₹33 lakh. Purani Dilli have retained star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant while North Delhi Strikers have held on to Harshit Rana. South Delhi Superstarz, last year's runners-up, retained Ayush Badoni and defending champions East Delhi Riders retained Anuj Rawat. West Delhi Lions chose to retain batter Ayush Doseja and Central Delhi Kings kept Jonty Sidhu. The two new franchises – Outer Delhi Warriors and New Delhi Tigers – retained Priyansh Arya and Himmat Singh respectively in the draft. East Delhi Riders exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card to retain the standout of last season's final, Mayank Rawat, for ₹26 lakh after a fierce bidding war. Vansh Bedi, initially unsold in the marquee category, was brought back in the A category with a revised base price of ₹5 lakh. He was retained by Purani Dilli using their RTM for ₹16 lakh. Wicketkeeper-batter Tejasvi Dahiya was retained by South Delhi via RTM for ₹13.5 lakh while Central Delhi Kings retained Money Grewal through the same provision. West Delhi Lions used their RTM to bring back Ankit Kumar Rajesh for ₹10 lakh. North Delhi Strikers retained Yajas Sharma for ₹12.5 lakh via RTM. Aaryavir Sehwag, the elder son of Virender Sehwag, was bought by Central Delhi Kings for ₹8 lakh. Aryaveer Kohli, Virat Kohli's nephew, was bought by South Delhi Superstarz for ₹1 lakh.

Kochi Blue Tigers buys Sanju Samson for a record amount at KCL auction
Kochi Blue Tigers won the bidding war with Thrissur Titans to buy marquee player Sanju Samson for ₹26.80 lakh in the auction for the second season of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) here on Saturday. Samson also became the most expensive player in the history of the KCL. Trivandrum Royals was the first team to bid for Sanju for ₹10 lakh but Thrissur Titans joined the fray and straightaway increased the amount to ₹20 lakh. Blue Tigers responded with ₹20.20 lakh and pursued it till Titans backed out when the price touched ₹26.80 lakh. Blue Tigers splurged more than 50 per cent of its available purse of ₹50 lakh for buying Samson. Apart from Samson, the Kochi side also bought K.M. Asif, Vinoop Manoharan and Akhin Sathar to complete the quota in Category A. It also sprang a surprise by buying the oldest player in the auction, the 42-year-old K.J. Rakesh for ₹75,000. 'Sanju brings in a lot of value to the side. He was always in our plans from the outset and we were determined to get him at all costs,' said Blue Tigers coach Raiphy Vincent Gomez. Vishu Vinod was the second most expensive buy in the auction. The swashbuckling batter was pocketed by Aries Kollam Sailors for ₹12.80 lakh. Titans and Alleppey Ripples bid aggressively for Jalaj Saxana with the latter nailing the all-rounder for ₹12.40 lakh. Basil Thampi was Royals' most expensive buy at ₹8.40 lakh. Royals also used the RTM (Right to Match) card to buy Abdul Basith for ₹6.40 lakh. Titans exercised the RTM cards to buy back Ahammed Imran, M.D. Nidheesh, Mohammed Ishque and Akshay Manohar while Blue Tigers used it for Nikhil Thottath, P.S. Jerin, Vipul Shakti and Jobin Joby. M. Nikhil was the most expensive player sold in Category B as he was bought for ₹5.9 lakh by Royals. Royals also paid the highest bid amount for a Category C player, doling out ₹3.95 lakh for V. Ajith. In all, 26 players (out of 31) in Category A, 16 (from 40) in Category B and 49 (from 84) in Category C were sold.
