I purchased a Ring doorbell from Amazon but it's now nearly 40% cheaper
A month or so ago we decided to take the plunge and finally invest in a video doorbell to beef up security and avoid those all important missed deliveries. After a quick evening of research on the internet, we decided to go with the majority and grab ourselves a Ring Video Doorbell. Once the decision had been made, I could not wait to hear that familiar chime and join the happy throng of folk who can answer their doorbell while standing in the queue at Sainsbury's. While we might be late to the party with the whole Ring doorbell thing, I felt I needed to order straight away. Looking on Amazon I found the holy grail of video doorbell chic - a non-wired, battery powered unit that could be installed in a jiffy complete with a internal unit that sends out those magnificent chimes. The Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro + Chime was promptly ordered an delivered next day, but despite the initial thrill, I quickly realised why I should have waited - because it's now a lot cheaper to buy. The highly anticipated Amazon Prime Day deals are currently live, running until Friday, July 11, at 11:59 pm. Offering up to 70% off thousands of products across all departments, including tech, Amazon Prime members could save a small fortune of lots of different things. The Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro + Chime is a really good example of an excellent Amazon deal. Now with 39% off - the doorbell and indoor speaker set has been reduced from £229.98 to £139.99 - which is precisely £89.99 less than we paid. While it is true that had we waited, we would have saved money, the Ring has still been a big hit. The wire-free doorbell is designed for quick and simple installation, with most users like us able to get it up and running in just a few minutes. It delivers 1440p HD colour video with night vision, so we can clearly see who is outside, during the day or night. The Ring Video Doorbell bundle has £89.99 off RRP and requirements no installation I must admit, I found the camera much clearer than I thought it would be, and the expanded view of 1536p HD Video lets you see more of whoever stops by. It also features 3D motion detection and bird's eye zones that pinpoints when and where a motion event begins in an aerial map view. With HD live view and two-way talk, you can speak to people in real time, which is a life saver for communicating with delivery drivers, neighbours and other visitors while we are out. The bundle that we purchased also comes with the Ring Chime. The plug-in device connects to existing Ring Doorbells and Cams to deliver real-time audio alerts when motion is detected or the doorbell is pressed. It plugs into a standard power socket, connects via Wi-Fi and features customised chime tones, volume and modes through the Ring app. No matter the upfront price of the doorbell, it is worth noting that Ring devices require a monthly subscription for full functionality, starting from £4.99 per month. For buyers who would prefer to skip the ongoing cost, the Tapo C500 1080p Full HD Outdoor Pan/Tilt Security Camera reduced from £69.99 to £34. It boasts over 20,000 reviews and is praised for its strong battery life and traditional, security camera style simple setup that doesn't require a subscription. Alternatively the Blink Video Doorbell is another strong option for doorbell security. With 45% off for Amazon Prime Day, prices start from £27.54 for the camera only option that buyers have called "easy to set up" and "great value for money." Shoppers who can't wait for delivery, can save 20% on the Arlo Essential 4-in-1 2K Smart Video Doorbell & Chime at Argos. Now £169.99, the 2k video package is similar to Ring with night vision, 4-6 months battery life and a plug in chime, as well as cloud storage and saved video library with subscription. Amazon shoppers who have also invested in the Ring Doorbell setup like we did have given it a 4.3 out of five-star rating. One buyer who was a little less impulsive than me, said: "I am so happy with this Ring Doorbell. Just what I needed, was just waiting for it to go down in price before buying and it did, It Is better than expected. The pictures are very clear. Very simple to set up. Highly Recommend." Another added: "Absolutely love the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro! From the moment I installed it (which was super easy and took less than 10 minutes), I could see a huge difference in the quality and performance compared to previous models. The video is incredibly clear, even at night, and the two-way audio is crisp and responsive." Another said: "This model is a game changer for home security." Not all buyers where quite so impressed however. One disappointed shopper left a three-star review that said: "Good picture and sound but minimum £50 a year for contract to make it marginally better than a cheaper video doorbell. Had to buy an extra battery for continuous running. Battery life is only mediocre in comparison to other batteries in today's market." Overall, most Amazon shoppers seem to be just as impressed with it as we are. Another five-star review added: "I love my Ring doorbell. I want another front door so I can get another Ring door bell. Only joking but it is great." Shoppers need to be Prime subscribers to take advantage of the very best doorbell deals and other bargains. So, if you don't have a membership, it's a good idea to sign up for a 30-day free trial here.

I've found the best last-minute Prime Day sales — my top picks on Samsung, Ring, and more
Prime Day deals are here and there's 1000s of products with great savings to choose from. So many, in fact, that you're probably feeling suitably overwhelmed by the whole thing. Fortunately, I've put in the hard work for you and scrolled through more pages than I can count to pick out the top 11 deals I'd recommend buying right now – before it's too late. My personal favourites include £70 off the Ring Video Doorbell and a whopping £160 off the Sony XM5 headphones. Both unbelievable deals, but don't worry, there's 9 more to add to your basket! Remember, you'll want to be a Prime customer to take advantage of the full savings. Prime Day is as good a time as any to invest in some new fitness gear and when Adidas offer discounts like these, it's hard to ignore! There's a variety of colours and sizes to choose from, varying in price by a couple of pounds. But, whatever you pick, you'll still make a great saving and add a gym staple to your wardrobe for less. The ultimate summer pick for women's fitness is a lightweight, anti-odour and quick-drying vest. Fortunately, UA is offering a whopping 40% off this Prime Day for its Tech Tank. For such a comfy fit that can take you from running in the gym to running errands seamlessly, it's tempting to buy more than one... These are my favourite socks for running and that's thanks to their anti-blister and sweat-wicking qualities. They're built to endure and you'll even get a replacement for free if you somehow wear a hole into them in the first year. 3 pairs for £24 is an absolute steal. Finding trainers on Amazon can sometimes be a little tricky, but for Prime Day there's a 50% discount off these comfy sneakers that is definitely worth talking about. A shock-absorbing midsole and flexible outsole makes for a perfect everyday trainer. But, it's also worth noting, the price varies depending on size and colour. Once I invested in my Ring doorbell, I never looked back and if you're yet to grab one, now is the perfect time. With an incredible £70 off, this easy to install and easy-to-use doorbell will give you invaluable home protection, including night vision and motion alerts. Don't be put off by the battery – it's very easy to charge and lasts for ages. Available in both Silver and Bronze. £80 off the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 with 64GB storage is an excellent deal. You can split your large display into two sections for multitasking, meaning you can video chat and do some work with two apps open at the same time. It also comes with a 3-year warranty, so if anything goes wrong, you've got peace of mind. When we got hold of the Brooks Ghost 16 in 2024, we said it was the "best version of the shoe in years" and we absolutely mean it. With improved midsole foam and upgrades on durability, it's a reliable daily trainer that's perfect for runners starting out their fitness journey. Depending on the size and colour you go for, the price will vary. Amazon's newest Kindle Paperwhite comes with a 7-inch glare-free display, weeks of battery life, adjustable warm light and absolutely no ads. It's what the brand are calling their "fastest Kindle ever" and this Prime Day, you can get it for 21% off. If your vacuum has just given up the ghost or you've found yourself checking out cordless models, now is the time to strike. With 34% off, the price actually dropped while I was writing this. The Dyson V8 is rechargeable, powerful, versatile and very quiet. With up to 40-minutes of power, it can tackle your everyday cleaning tasks with ease. And it can be yours for the wonderful price of £218. The Sony WH-1000XM5's are big performers, thanks to their sleek design, feature set and exceptional ANC performers. With £110 off, it's a huge saving if you're in the market for some premium wireless cans. They've got great control options, long battery life and articulate sound all for a very reasonable price. The Apple Watch Series 10 is the tech brand's flagship smartwatch with wide-angle OLED displays, a lighter design and faster charging on its 18-hour battery life. It might not look that new, but the feature set is packed with handy tools that'll help with health, fitness and more. At time of writing, it had already sold out in a few colours, but there's still a few left ready to grab!

Ring doorbell owners warned of gadget could SHUT DOWN as temperatures reach 31C today – how to protect your device
YOUR Ring doorbell may stop working as usual today as temperatures reach 31C in some parts of the UK. Ring devices perform their best when at the 'goldilocks' temperature of around 25°C. 1 The current warm spell may change the temperature of your device - particularly if it sits in direct sunlight Credit: Alamy While they typically operate normally between -20°C and 50°C, Ring devices can experience battery issues when subject to extreme hot or cold temperatures. The current warm spell may change the temperature of your device - particularly if it sits in direct sunlight. While the sunny weather might be taken as a good thing for those with a "Prolonged exposure to hot weather will negatively affect the overall lifetime of your battery," according to Ring. READ MORE ON RING "If your device gets too hot, it will not charge and may completely shut down." Heat can permanently damage the batteries in electronic devices - even your iPhone or Android phone - by accelerating internal chemical reactions. This can cause the battery to run through its lifespan faster, and even cause it to hold less charge over time. High temperatures can also cause the electrolyte fluid inside batteries to evaporate, which could potentially damage internal components. Most read in Tech In rare cases, heat can trigger a process called "thermal runaway" in lithium-ion batteries, which can cause a fire. Amazon's Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus watches your front door & doesn't need any wires Fortunately, there are steps you can take to keep your device working properly and protect it from rising temperatures. Ring recommends installing the device in a shaded area, if possible. You may also need to take it inside to cool down during the hottest parts of the day. Keep an eye on the battery, Ring adds, especially in "extreme temperatures". Amazon's guide to Ring doorbell positioning Here's the official advice... One of the biggest mistakes people make is mounting their Ring Video Doorbell too high in the belief that they need to do this in order to catch people's faces. In fact, as illustrated above, viewing faces is not a problem if the Ring Video Doorbell is mounted at the correct height of approximately 1.2 meters above the ground. The second way your Ring Video Doorbell sees the world is through a network of PIR, or passive infrared, motion sensors. These are heat sensors that detect motion by monitoring heat within the detection area. Since people are hotter than the surrounding areas, as a person enters the detection area the heat measurements change. The motion sensors register this change as movement and send out an alert. The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from 1.5 to 7.5 meters outward from the fixture. They're also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical. Mount your doorbell too high and you're more likely to catch the heat of passing cars than the heat of incoming visitors.
