Kelly Ripa says Mark Consuelos' diet is ‘way too disciplined' — but it left her ‘super fit' when she tried it
Kelly Ripa says her husband, Mark Consuelos, is pretty tight. Too tight — but, then, so was her Oscars gown. 'So right before the Academy Awards, I was having trouble getting my dress zipped up the side. It was a side-zip dress, and I kept getting zipped into the dress,' Ripa, 54, confessed on a recent episode of 'Live with Kelly and Mark.' 3 Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos at the Oscars on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Disney via Getty Images Needing results fast, she turned to her hubby's super strict, super high protein diet for three days and — lo and behold — the zipper slid like a kid on a waterslide. 'I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin,' she told Consuelos, also 54. 'And I looked super fit. Super, super fit. So thank you for that.' That being said, she made it pretty clear his regimen wasn't her everyday jam. 'It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing,' she said. 'I just find, you're like, way too disciplined. I can't live that way. But for 72 hours, I can live like Mark Consuelos so I lived like Mark Consuelos for 72 hours.' 3 'I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin,' she said. ABC So, what did this miracle diet entail? According to Ripa, it was plenty of yogurt, veggies and steak — much to the talk show host's dismay, as she admitted that she's 'not big on animal protein.' Consuelos said the diet is 'the craze now,' possibly alluding to the popularity of the carnivore diet, which is being touted as a game changer for the gut by wellness influencers and celebs like Jenny McCarthy. However, it's worth noting that experts have expressed concerns about the potential health risks of this trendy meal plan, citing an increased risk of kidney stones, LDL cholesterol, heart disease, colon cancer, digestive issues and nutritional deficiencies as potential side effects. 3 'It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing,' she said. 2003 RAMEY PHOTO 310-828-3445/L 'There are significant long-term risks with following the carnivore diet,' Dr. Joseph Antoun, CEO of the longevity company L-Nutra, previously told The Post, arguing for a 'well-balanced, plant-forward approach' that is 'rich in complex carbs, plant-based/fish-based proteins and healthy fats from nuts and seeds' instead. Consuelos himself cautioned that it's crucial to increase your fiber intake when following a high-protein diet, especially if you're doing it as a lifestyle choice and not a 72-hour stint. 'It's really, really important. 'Recommended 25 grams of fiber per day for women, 38 grams for men.' So it's crucial for 'maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic disease such as diabetes,' he said. Of course, it helps to have a live-in expert, as it sounds like Ripa didn't even know what she was eating most of the time. 'You were there, you were managing my diet,' she told her husband on the episode. 'I'm like, 'I don't know, I ate whatever you told me to eat.' Literally, if he was like, 'Eat this,' I ate it. And it was great for the 72 hours I had to suffer through it. But they're talking about daily life every day, if you're having a high protein diet…' '…Make sure you take your fiber,' he said.

Kelly Ripa says she ate like her husband for 3 days to help fit into her Oscars dress
It turns out that all Kelly Ripa needed to do to fit into her Oscars dress was eat like Mark Consuelos for three days. On Monday's episode of " Live with Kelly and Mark," Ripa spoke about how she struggled to fit into her gown for the Academy Awards "So right before the Academy Awards, I was having trouble getting my dress zipped up the side. It was a side-zip dress, and I kept getting zipped into the dress," Ripa said. "I don't know if any women have experienced having your side skin sipped into your dress. It is a punishing thing." To help Ripa get red carpet-ready, Consuelos suggested she follow his high-protein diet. "It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing," Ripa said. "I just find, you're like, way too disciplined. I can't live that way." But she didn't mind giving it a shot if it's just "for 72 hours," Ripa said, adding that some of the foods she ate included steak, yoghurt, and vegetables. "I didn't love it, because I'm not big on animal protein. I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin," Ripa said. "And I looked super fit. Super, super fit. So thank you for that." Consuelos added that increasing protein should go hand-in-hand with meeting daily fiber needs. "It's crucial for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic disease such as diabetes," Consuelos said. Protein helps build lean muscle mass, boosts immunity, and is good for weight loss. The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, published by the United States Department of Agriculture, recommend 14 grams of dietary fiber for every 1,000 calories consumed. This amounts to 22 to 28 grams daily for adult women and 28 to 34 grams daily for adult men, depending on their age range. Dietitians previously told Business Insider that salmon, shrimp, and black beans are high-protein foods that can be beneficial to include in a weight-loss diet. Eating a lot of protein isn't usually harmful, but it can mean you're not getting enough of other important nutrients. "Most athletes that I talk to are eating too much protein because they think eating more protein means building more muscle," sports dietitian Nancy Clark told BI. "It's actually the carbs that fuel muscle. All the protein they're eating displaces the carbs that are needed to fuel the muscles."

Kelly Ripa Ponders The Idea of Law School on ‘Live' After Mark Consuelos Tells Her She 'Should' Go: 'Do I Want To Be The World's Oldest Law Student?'
From Live to law? After Mark Consuelos debriefed Kelly Ripa and Wednesday's Live with Kelly and Mark on his night attending Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway, Ripa told her husband and co-host that she's 'glad [he] had fun last night.' 'I had fun without you,' she teased. Consuelos replied, 'Oh, I'm sure. Let me guess, the Karen Read trial, retrial of the retrial of the coverage.' After Ripa told Consuelos he was 'correct,' Consuelos asked whether she 'glean[ed]' anything from tuning in the night before. 'Nothing new,' Ripa shared. 'I just literally watched court TV all night.' Consuelos asked, 'What are you going to do when the trial is over in a couple weeks?' Ripa said, 'I'm going to roll into whatever the next trial is that they're going to serve me.' However, Consuelos then gave Ripa some food for thought, proposing that she 'should go to law school.' Ripa explained, 'You know what I said to myself? I really did miss my calling as a judge, jury, and attorney.' Consuelos joked, 'And I would say executioner, as well.' While Ripa quipped that she is 'both prosecution and defense simultaneously,' Consuelos doubled down on his earlier proposal. 'Maybe that's what you should do,' he said. 'You should get your law degree.' Ripa asked, 'You think?' Consuelos and a member of the audience insisted that 'it's not too late,' but Ripa still had some other preoccupations. 'Do I want to be the world's oldest law student? I don't know,' she added. Although Consuelos assured her that she 'wouldn't be,' Ripa continued, 'And once I fail the Bar Exam, you know, the tabloids in New York would pick it up.' Consuelos replied, 'You won't fail it. I know you. You're whip-smart.' Ripa concluded on a more optimistic note, letting out a breath and telling viewers, 'We'll see.' 'Never say never. Although I say never all the time,' she teased.
