Four weeks of delays due to gas pipe upgrades on A217 in Reigate

Traffic delays are expected in a Surrey town for up to four weeks due to gas network upgrades. The A217 Reigate Hill is closed to southbound motorists from Monday between its junctions with Brokes Road and Birkheads the gas distribution company, said it is replacing old pipes along a section of the road.A company spokesperson "apologised for any inconvenience" and said the closure was "to ensure everyone's safety". The company statement read: "These works are part of a 30-year programme to replace aging gas mains with modern, long-lasting plastic piping to ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas to local homes and businesses. "Once completed, the upgraded network will serve the community safely and reliably for many decades to come."The company said the new plastic pipe would have a lifespan of 80 motorists should follow the signed diversion route via Raglan Road. Light vehicles should then continue via Croydon Road and Rushworth Road, while HGVs must follow a separate diversion route via A242, A23, and A25. Debbie Davis, a nearby cafe owner, told BBC Radio Surrey: "Inevitably it is going to affect us as the diversions are looking widespread."It's just another thing we've got to contend with. But I'm sure the customers will get to us." Bradley Lock, Reigate resident, said: "I don't think the bus I take to work will be running for a month which will make things quite difficult."In January, another road in the town, Gatton Park Road, was closed for four months for water mains replacement.

Details released of bus service disruption

Bus services are set to be diverted and a free shuttle service set up as a full road closure comes into effect on a Wiltshire route. As reported at the start of this month, Winsley Hill, near Bradford on Avon, will shut to all traffic from July 21 to August 31 while Network Rail conducts 'urgent repairs' to a railways bridge. The rail company has also advertised a diversion, which would see motorists re-routed via the A36, the A361, and through central Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon. Wiltshire Council has now confirmed the closure of the road will also affect some bus services. The D1 bus service will be unable to operate its usual route and will take the more direct route between Bradford on Avon and Bath via Sally-in-the-Woods. (Image: Google Maps) To help passengers get to and from Bradford on Avon, there will be a free shuttle bus service, operated by Beeline, from Monday to Saturday during daytime hours between Winsley village and Bradford on Avon. Posters displaying the times of the free shuttle bus are on display at bus stops in Winsley and along Winsley Road in Bradford on Avon. Any passengers travelling to Bath from Winsley can take the free shuttle to Bradford on Avon and then change to the D1 or D1x at Christ Church, while passengers heading to Trowbridge can change at the Bradford on Avon Town Bridge. However, the diversion route will take longer, so there may be some small delays. The work is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the bridge and will involve 24/7 activity throughout the closure period. The proposed diversion route. Cllr Martin Smith, cabinet member for Highways, said: 'We understand this closure will cause disruption, but these works are vital for public safety and the continued operation of the railway. 'We've worked closely with Network Rail to ensure alternative travel arrangements are in place, particularly for bus users. 'Throughout the closure, we will be monitoring the effect that this closure has on the local traffic network, particularly in the surrounding villages, and if required we will take appropriate action to mitigate any major traffic issues.'

A47 closed into the evening after diesel spillage

Resurfacing works on an A-road following a diesel spillage will continue into the evening, National Highways has said. Norfolk Police said it was called to the A47 Easton roundabout at 22:51 BST on Thursday, following reports of a spillage on the road. National Highways said the road was shut between the A1074 (Norwich) and B1110 (Honingham) for emergency resurfacing works following the incident. However, it said the works were being made "complicated" due to rising temperatures affecting the curing process. A spokesperson for National Highways said specialist contractors were at the road. The work was expected to be completed by Friday afternoon, however, National Highways has now said it was aiming for the road to be reopened by Friday evening. The time of this is currently not known. It added police were looking into the cause of the spillage, which it said was not known. Drivers were advised to take alternative routes and allow extra time for their journey. Follow Norfolk news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. Related internet links National Highways
