Guntur SP inspects traffic diversions for ROB construction

Guntur: Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar on Sunday personally inspected various traffic diversion points in Guntur city, implemented due to the ongoing construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Sankar Vilas Centre. The SP offered crucial suggestions to minimise inconvenience for commuters navigating the altered routes. The SP visited key locations including Sankar Vilas Bridge (Broadiepet side), Kankaragunta Railway Underbridge, Mudu Vantenala Centre, and Kothapeta Sivalayam. He meticulously examined the traffic diversions and advised traffic police officials to thoroughly assess peak traffic hours in these areas. He stressed the importance of arranging efficient alternative routes to prevent congestion. He further instructed officials to deploy adequate traffic personnel at major roads, key junctions, and diversion points that typically experience heavy vehicular movement. The SP emphasised the necessity of a well-planned strategy, proper coordination among departments, and an efficient information system to resolve any traffic issues promptly. During the inspection, traffic police officials brought to the SP's attention the persistent problem of water logging at the Kankaragunta Railway Underbridge and Mudu Vantenala Centre during rainfall, which severely impedes vehicle movement. In response, SP Satish Kumar assured them that he would discuss the issue with the district collector and the Municipal Commissioner. He committed to conducting a joint field inspection with them to identify and implement necessary remedial measures. The SP appealed to the public and commuters to extend their full cooperation with the traffic regulations being implemented by the police to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent any related issues. Traffic DSP Ramesh, West DSP Aravind, SB CI Alahari Srinivas, Traffic CIs Ashok and Singayya, Nagarampalem CI Nazir Baig, Arundelpet CI Arogyaraju, Traffic SIs Ravindra Babu, Sambasiva Rao Naik, and other officials were present.

Central Railway Enhances Monsoon Safety With Strategic Works Near Sindi

Nagpur: Central Railway's Nagpur Division launched a vital cutting removal project in the Sindi–Borkhedi Section to bolster monsoon safety and ensure seamless train operations during heavy rains. Targeting the vulnerable stretch between Sindi and Borkhedi, this initiative addresses longstanding challenges posed by heavy water accumulation and drainage issues that threaten track stability during the rainy season. The section, located near a Road Over Bridge (ROB), is a deep cutting prone to waterlogging, which degrades track conditions. Similarly, another stretch in the same section, dominated by black cotton soil, faces rapid drain clogging, causing water to overflow onto the tracks. This leads to mud formation in the ballast, reducing track elasticity, impairing drainage, and compromising operational safety, said a Central Railway official. In order to counter these issues, the Nagpur Division deployed advanced machinery, including excavators and bulldozers, for large-scale mechanical excavation within a time-bound schedule, said an official. The removed soil and rock are either repurposed for embankment construction or disposed of at designated spoil dumps following scientific protocols, the official informed. Additionally, robust slope stabilization measures are being implemented to prevent erosion and ensure the long-term integrity of the track embankment, said the official. This proactive project is set to enhance track stability, improve drainage efficiency, and minimize monsoon-related disruptions, reinforcing Central Railway's commitment to passenger safety and resilient infrastructure. By adopting innovative maintenance practices, the Nagpur Division aims to deliver safe, reliable, and weather-resilient railway services. "This initiative underscores our dedication to proactive infrastructure management and operational reliability, especially during challenging monsoon conditions," said a Central Railway official. Highways department, corporation stalemate delays Coimbatore's Thanneerpandal overbridge works

COIMBATORE: Even after nearly two decades since the project was first sanctioned, the long-awaited Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Thanneerpandal near Tidel Park in Coimbatore is stuck in red tape, leaving thousands of daily commuters in despair. The stalemate between the State Highways department and Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) is a fresh hindrance that has been delaying the project. Originally proposed to ease severe traffic congestion at the Railway Level Crossing (LC) Gate No 6 on Thanneerpandal Road, the ROB project was sanctioned under Government Order No 210 dated October 11, 2006, with an administrative sanction of Rs 12.65 crore. The project aimed to improve traffic flow along the key corridor connecting Hopes College and Peelamedu, especially for IT park-bound vehicles. Though land acquisition (LA) began soon after the process was marred by legal hurdles. Of the 58 landowners affected, a handful opposed the acquisition and moved the Madras High Court. In March 2023, the court dismissed three writ petitions and a contempt petition filed by five landowners, slapping a Rs 1 lakh fine on each petitioner and directing the amount to be paid to the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority. The court, while strongly rebuking the petitioners, emphasised that private interest cannot outweigh public welfare. However, the issue refused to settle. Owners of a private school and an industry functioning along the Hopes-Thanneerpandal stretch filed a writ appeal, once again stalling the project. As the case awaits hearing, the State Highways department has decided to proceed with the project, noting that only a minor portion of land is needed for constructing the service road of the ROB.

Prime Minister to inaugurate modernised Karimnagar railway virtually on May 22, says Bandi Sanjay

The Karimnagar railway station has undergone a complete makeover featuring modern passenger amenities, said Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay. An amount of ₹33.3 crore has been spent for the modernisation of Karimnagar railway station under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate 102 railway stations, redeveloped under ABSS across the country, in a virtual mode on May 22. Among them, Karimnagar is one of the three railway stations (Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar) from Telangana, he noted. Speaking to reporters after visiting the redeveloped Karimnagar railway station on Sunday evening, Mr. Sanjay said the Jammikunta railway station will also be modernized soon. He said, 'Modernisation works are ongoing at 40 railway stations in Telangana with an outlay of ₹2,000 crore. In Karimnagar, two MMTS platforms, escalators, foot-over-bridges, AC waiting halls, food courts and other facilities have been developed under ABSS.' He maintained that over ₹32,940 crore has been spent on railway development in Telangana. 'In this year alone, ₹5,336 crore has been allocated. The Secunderabad and Nampally railway stations in the State capital are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹750 crore and ₹350 crore respectively. ₹1.5 lakh crore has been spent on development of National Highways in Telangana,' he said. Taking a dig at Congress and BRS leaders over their criticism of the Centre, he said these development works speak for themselves. 'We are ready to release a white paper on how much funds have been allocated by the Centre for the development of Telangana,' he asserted. Mr. Sanjay said work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Teegalaguttapalli in Karimnagar will be expedited to complete the ROB within the stipulated time. Expressing displeasure over the tardy progress of the ROB works at Uppal in Jammikunta mandal, he said directions have been issued to the contractors concerned to complete the single-line works by June this year. He condoled the death of 17 persons in a tragic incident at Gulzar Houz in Hyderabad and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded immediately and announced assistance.
