Traffic update: Dubai's RTA completes key road upgrades in Business Bay

Image: RTA/ X Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority ( The enhancements are part of a broader plan to develop the emirate's road network infrastructure and improve efficiency to accommodate population growth and urban expansion. The newly completed works are expected to lead to smoother traffic flow, increased safety, and reduced travel times. The Business Bay traffic upgrades include… … a street running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road was converted from a two-lane, two-way configuration into a one-way dual roadway. This adjustment is projected to reduce traffic overlap points and increase the street's capacity by 100 per cent. Additionally, a 100-metre-long storage lane was introduced at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street with Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street. This measure is designed to boost right-turn capacity towards First Al Khail Street by up to 50 per cent, aiming to reduce congestion and waiting times at the intersection. Further improvements involved reorganising the service road parallel to Al Mustaqbal Street, near the towers, by adding an extra lane. This step is anticipated to increase road capacity by approximately 50 per cent and decrease traffic issues. The RTA also expanded the entry point to the bridge on Al Mustaqbal Street over the canal, in the direction of First Al Khail Street, from one lane to two. This effectively doubled the entry point's capacity, aiming to ease traffic pressure during peak hours and improve vehicle flow along the corridor. Read:

Dubai's RTA completes 3 traffic improvements on Business Bay area

DUBAI - Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed three traffic improvements on Business Bay. The improvements involved expanding and upgrading several locations along the street, which connects directly to Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, to enhance traffic flow and road safety in the area. These enhancements serve the needs of residents, visitors, and businesses in a district characterised by a diverse mix of residential, commercial, and service facilities. These works form part of a broader plan to upgrade infrastructure and boost the efficiency of Dubai's road network to keep pace with population growth and urban development. The completed enhancements contribute to smoother traffic flow, higher safety standards, and reduced travel times, particularly in high-density zones, thereby improving the overall road user experience. As part of the upgrades, the street parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road was converted from a two-lane, two-way configuration into a one-way dual roadway, with updated signage and road markings. This adjustment reduced traffic overlap points, increased the street's capacity by 100 percent, and improved overall traffic flow. Additionally, a 100-metre-long storage lane was added at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street with Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street to increase right-turn capacity towards First Al Khail Street by up to 50 percent. This measure reduced congestion, shortened waiting times, and boosted the intersection's capacity and level of service. Further improvements were carried out near the towers, where the service road parallel to Al Mustaqbal Street was reorganised, and an additional lane was introduced to accommodate rising traffic volumes. This step increased road capacity by approximately 50 percent and reduced traffic conflicts. Moreover, RTA expanded the entry point to the bridge on Al Mustaqbal Street over the canal in the direction of First Al Khail Street from one lane to two, doubling its capacity. This measure eased traffic pressure during peak hours and improved vehicle flow along this critical corridor.

Dubai announces free parking for Islamic New Year

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has announced that public parking zones across the emirate will be free of charge on Friday, June 27, in observance of Islamic New Year. Regular fees will resume on Saturday, June 28. The only exception will be for multilevel car parks. Dubai Metro will operate on Friday, June 27, from 5am to 1am, while the Dubai Tram will run from 6am on June 27 until 1am. RTA Customer Happiness centres will be closed on Friday but the Smart Customer Happiness centres in Umm Ramool, Deira, Al Barsha, and the head office will remain operational 24/7 as usual. All service provider centres will be closed on Friday and vehicle technical testing services will resume on Saturday. Commuters are advised to check the S'hail or RTA app to see schedules for public buses and marine transport. What is Islamic New Year? Public and private sector workers across the UAE will be granted a public holiday on Friday to mark the start of the new Islamic year. The Islamic, or Hijri, New Year, heralds the beginning of Muharram, the first of 12 months on the Islamic calendar. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued a circular to ministries and federal departments to confirm the public holiday, while the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced the holiday for the private sector. In contrast to Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, no religious observances are typically held to mark the Islamic New Year. It is generally regarded as a day of reflection rather than celebration.
