"But shortly after her Video Vanguard Award and performance in September, they started to disconnect more as she was getting ready to release music, go on tour and take the space flight. 'They both love each other, but they have been living different lives for at least a year and in different mindsets.' It's understood Orlando and Katy are planning on reuniting on July 4 when there is a break in her touring schedule. The insider added: 'They have barely been together for a decent amount of time, without distractions, for many, many months.' Tensions within their relationship also reached boiling point after Katy's flight to space on board Jeff's Blue Origin. Katy, along with Lauren and Gayle King, were hit with a public backlash and those close to Orlando said he had warned Katy about taking part. Arson Thriller 'Smoke' Isn't Nearly as Subversive as It Thinks
Smoke gets off to an insufferable start. Freighted with procedural clichés, the Apple TV+ thriller follows a mismatched law-enforcement duo tracking two prolific arsonists. Dave Gudsen (Taron Egerton) is an arson investigator with a standoffish stepson and literary ambitions. His new partner: police detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett), an ex-Marine who's sleeping with a superior. Initial tension gives way to drunken bonding. Pretentious stylistic choices exacerbate the lazy setup. Episodes open with dictionary definitions of thematically appropriate words like transmogrification and, for some reason, fury on title cards. There are arty shots of billowing infernos. A mournful Thom Yorke song soundtracks the credits. In voiceover, Dave expounds, hackily, on the annihilating power of fire. After two interminable episodes, a bombshell resets the show, eliminating some of its worst excesses and contextualizing others. Smoke becomes watchable. Yet in its swerve away from one egregious set of tropes, it embraces others that are, if less irritating, almost as tired. An emerging critique of aggrieved white machismo comes off, mostly, as a shallow topical hook. Like so many disappointing Apple TV+ projects, from Nicole Kidman's Roar to Billy Crystal's Before, the series substitutes marquee names for quality control. Loosely based on the true crime podcast Firebug, it was developed by one of Hollywood's favorite authors, Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island, Mystic River), who was also on the writing staff of The Wire and helmed Apple's well-received 2022 miniseries Black Bird. The cast includes John Leguizamo, Greg Kinnear, and Anna Chlumsky. Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, a standout in The Chi and Treme, brings a fragile authenticity to the tricky but pivotal role of a maladjusted fast-food worker. But the actors are poorly served by the material. Kinnear is miscast as the detectives' folksy, complacent boss. Leguizamo's character is too broadly sleazy, Chlumsky's too bland. At the story's forefront, Michelle is a dated Strong Female Character with a maudlin history of trauma. Egerton, an executive producer, has taken on a role so elastic, and so clearly shaped by the need for nine episodes' worth of cliffhangers, it barely holds together. Populated by unhinged men and masochistic women, and punctuated by fiery, increasingly histrionic set pieces, Smoke fails to reconcile its mood of noirish nihilism with its efforts at social commentary. Despite feinting towards subversion, Lehane has produced a typical—overlong, caricature-laden, easy to watch but also to forget—streaming crime show.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have ended their relationship after more than nine years together, according to reports. So much for Legolas-ting love? The news was confirmed by outlets left and right, with People quoting a source who said a couple of weeks ago that the relationship was 'pretty much done' after 'breaking down the last couple of months.' Alas, representatives for both parties did not respond immediately to The Times' requests for an official stamp of authenticity on the split. The two have been together since early 2016, when they started 'spending more and more time together' — a.k.a. dating, on the heels of Perry's relationship with John Mayer. Bloom and Miranda Kerr had divorced amicably a few years earlier, and he and the 'Roar' singer were spotted together at events one after another after another. Dating ensued. Bloom, 48, and Perry, 40, split up for about a year starting in 2017, but got engaged in 2019. Daughter Daisy Dove was born the next summer. 'We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,' the couple said on social media at the time. They made headlines in mid-2020 and again in late 2023 over a Montecito mansion Perry bought from a man in his 80s who later tried to snuff the deal and get the house back, saying he hadn't been in his right mind when he agreed to the sale. The singer got her way in court after a judge decided the evidence indicated the man, who founded 1-800-Flowers, was well enough to sign on the dotted line. Perry, whose current tour is in support of her '143' album, jaunted into space in mid-April on a Jeff Bezos rocket ship. While in the sky, the singer warbled 'What a Wonderful World' and flashed a daisy she'd brought along, then kissed the Earth when she and her all-female flightmates landed. Some earthlings were less than impressed. Backlash ensued. Perry said she felt like a 'human pinata.' Sympathy was slim. Bloom and Perry are 'in touch and coparenting,' according to an Us Weekly source, and will continue living in the Montecito area so their daughter has stability. The outlet reported that the two split up in April, before Perry's Lifetimes Tour kicked off. Then on Thursday, TMZ spotted the 'Lord of the Rings' actor alone in Venice, chatting up some Kardashians and other guests ahead of billionaire Bezos' wedding to Lauren Sanchez. Looks like he got custody of the invitation. A source connected to Perry told Us Weekly recently that the singer, whose marriage to Russell Brand ended in 2011, was 'upset but relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' In addition to Daisy, Bloom has a son, Flynn, with ex-wife and model Kerr.
