Rep. Ralph Norman launches bid for South Carolina governor

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) announced Sunday he's launching a bid to succeed term-limited South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R), making him the latest Republican to throw his hat in the mix. 'I've seen way too many corrupt politicians in Columbia, S.C., looking out for themselves and not for you. And in Washington, I've seen career politicians who care more about their next election than they do securing our future generations,' Norman told supporters in Rock Hill, S.C. 'We do not need more career politician folks or lawyers running government,' he continued. 'We need business leaders, people who have signed the front of a paycheck and people who have signed the back of a paycheck, folks who have built something, taken risk, made money, yes, and lost money.' Norman joins several other prominent Republicans in launching a bid for South Carolina governor. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell have also announced campaigns to succeed McMaster. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is expected to make a decision on whether to run for governor soon. Nikki Haley, a former United Nations ambassador who also served as South Carolina governor, and former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) have endorsed Norman in the race. Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has also backed Norman. While the House Freedom Caucus member praised President Trump in his remarks, the question of whom the president endorses in the race still looms. Norman endorsed Haley in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, later getting behind Trump once the former U.N. ambassador dropped out of the race. But Trump places a lot of weight on loyalty and has been unafraid to go after Republicans who he's believed have been insufficiently loyal. Whoever wins the Republican primary next year is seen as the heavy favorite to win in the November election. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Rock Hill High School football team gives back with free youth camp

The Rock Hill High School football team is hosting a free youth camp Saturday, aimed at giving back to the community and fostering a positive culture within the team. Rock Hill High School names new head football coach The camp will take place near District 3 Stadium and is open to more than 100 elementary and middle school kids interested in playing football. This initiative comes after the team faced culture concerns last year, leading to the appointment of a new head coach, Leon Boulware. 'The culture has changed and shifted. The kids are working really hard for it,' said Boulware. He's been helping the teens unite after parents complained about the program and the culture. 'I noticed the kids didn't know each other well, so I took them to the team camp for three days and got away from Rock Hill,' the coach said. The team has a new bond and is giving back Saturday with a free football camp for more than 100 elementary and middle school kids who want to play football. 'These camps are expensive it costs a lot of money and parents don't have money to send kids to these camps,' said parent Brad Basselman. 'On my staff alone, I have three former NFL players,' Boulware said. 'It's important to see they're right here in this area they came from the same background.' The team is expecting changes on the field. 'The goal is to always win,' Boulware said. 'We are going to take it one week at a time.' The camp will be held between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. before it gets too hot.

Congressman Ralph Norman officially joins the 2026 race for South Carolina governor

U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-South Carolina) launched his campaign for governor ahead of a kickoff event in Rock Hill on July 27. The fifth district congressman teased a campaign launch in a social media post. 'Make plans to join me Sunday the 27th to hear some exciting news about the future of South Carolina.' He has since changed the account name to "Ralph Norman for Governor" and launched his campaign website for the gubernatorial race. More: U.S. Reps. Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman hint at upcoming announcements on state's future "Ralph Norman believes we must finally clean up Columbia and pass term limits, so we can prepare South Carolina for the future by fixing our roads and improving our schools," Norman's campaign team said in a statement. "He's the political establishment's worst nightmare.' Who is Ralph Norman? Norman was first elected to represent the fifth congressional district in South Carolina in a 2017 special election. He has held the seat ever since. He is also a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a coalition of conservative representatives that supports "open, accountable and limited government," according to its Facebook page. Before he was elected to Congress, Norman was first elected to the South Carolina State House of Representatives in 2004. He served one term and did not run in 2006; instead, he ran for the open fifth congressional district seat. After losing the 2006 congressional race, he won re-election five times at the state level before moving to the U.S. House of Representatives. Norman's campaign is focused on fixing South Carolina roads and infrastructure, letting residents elect judges and creating a South Carolina Department of Government Efficiency. His website also states that he is "100% Pro-Life and 100% Pro-Gun." "Ralph doesn't just talk a big game about being a conservative," his website states. "He has the record to prove it." Upcoming campaign kickoff in Rock Hill Norman's campaign kickoff event will be in Rock Hill at the Magnolia Room. Doors to the event open at 2:30 p.m. and it starts at 3:30 p.m. The congressman is the fourth candidate to officially enter the race for South Carolina's governor. His competitors for the 2026 GOP primary nomination are Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, Attorney General Alan Wilson, and State Senator Josh Kimbrell. Republican U.S. Rep. House Freedom Caucus conservative to enter race for South Carolina governor

A House GOP lawmaker is entering the race to become South Carolina governor on Friday, his campaign confirmed to Fox News Digital. Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, is expected to kick off his campaign with an event in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Friday. As of Friday morning, his non-congressional X account had been changed to say "Ralph Norman for Governor." He's a fiscal hawk on the House GOP's rightmost flank, where he's joined other like-minded colleagues in upending leaders' legislative agenda at times in the name of pushing for more conservative policy wins. Norman is joining a crowded Republican primary field with his new gubernatorial bid. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell are also in the race. Meanwhile, Norman's House colleague, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is also said to be considering a campaign for governor. "We wish Congressman Ralph Norman the best of luck today as he announces his run for Governor," Mace said in a statement on X. Norman previously ran the Warren Norman Company, a commercial real estate development business started by his father. Before being elected to Congress via special election in 2017, Norman served in the South Carolina state House from 2009 to 2017. A longtime ally of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Norman was the only House Republican to formally endorse her before Haley dropped out of the race – after which Norman emphatically backed President Donald Trump. He told Fox News Digital of his endorsement in January 2024, "When I supported Nikki Haley, I had the respect of Donald Trump to call him, and I told him what I was gonna do, and I decided I was going to do it." Norman has been a vocal supporter of Trump since Haley's exit. He was most recently at the White House earlier this week with other House Republicans for a reception celebrating their legislative successes. Earlier this year, he was part of a group of conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus forcing last-minute changes to the president's "big, beautiful bill" that they said fell more in line with what Trump actually wanted. Current South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, also a close Trump ally, is term-limited at the end of 2026. The president's endorsement is likely to play a decisive role in the Palmetto State's GOP primary.
