Rod Stewart Says He's No Longer Friends With Neighbor Donald Trump: ‘He Became Another Guy'
Rod Stewart and Donald Trump may live close to one another, but that doesn't mean the rock star feels any sort of neighborly way about the President of the United States. In an interview with Radio Times published Tuesday (June 17) ahead of his upcoming Glastonbury performance, Stewart didn't hold back when asked about the mogule-turned-politician, with whom he used to be friends. 'I'm not a great fan of Trump,' he told the publication. 'I knew him very, very well. I used to go to his house.' More from Billboard Rod Stewart Confirms Faces Reunion With Ronnie Wood For Glastonbury 2025 Slot Rachel Zegler Serenades Crowd Outside Theater for Free in a New London Production of 'Evita' Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to Receive Vanguard Award at The Guitar Center Music Foundation Gala & Benefit Concert 'I live literally half a mile away,' continued Stewart, who has a residence in Palm Beach, Fla. 'We're both on the beach. I used to go to his Christmas parties. He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that. But he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well.' Stewart added that he thinks becoming the leader of the country changed his former pal for the worse. 'Since he became president, he became another guy,' the musician said. 'Somebody I didn't know.' Trump and Stewart were friends for many years. Even leading up to the 2016 election — which the billionaire ended up winning, securing his first of two nonconsecutive White House terms — the Grammy winner stood by his fellow Floridian, telling Billboard when asked about the election in 2015, 'I have strong political beliefs, [but] I don't want to get into it … Donald Trump happens to be a friend of mine.' Now, Stewart says he definitely doesn't consider Trump a friend, citing one policy issue in particular as unforgivable. 'No, I can't anymore,' the artist said. 'As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis — and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop?' Stewart joins a number of musicians who have criticized Trump's administration, with many of them similarly taking issue with the U.S. government's involvement in Israel's ongoing war against Hamas — a conflict that has resulted in the deaths of more than 50,000 Palestinians since Oct. 7, 2023, when the terrorist group incited retaliation after killing 1,200 Israeli civilians and took 251 hostages. 'Someone's gotta do something,' added Stewart. 'What [Israeli President] Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews. It's annihilation, and that's all he wants to do — get rid of them all. I don't know how they sleep at night.' The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is set to headline Glastonbury later in June, with The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo also leading the four-day festival's bill. Charli xcx, Doechii, Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, Wolf Alice and Busta Rhymes will perform as well. Stewart's set will take place after he was forced to postpone a handful of U.S. concert dates due to illness. TRNSMT 2025 first look behind the scenes at Glasgow site and bar prices
Scotland's biggest festival is being held at Glasgow Green for the eighth time. Hundreds of crew members have put the finishing touches to this year's TRNSMT festival site before the doors open for a weekend of incredible live entertainment. Scotland's biggest festival is being held at Glasgow Green for the eighth time. The event will kick off Friday before ending with fireworks on Sunday night. By then will have performed across the three days. The Record has been given a sneak preview as the site is being readied for up to 50,000 music fans each day. This year's festival is sponsored by RockStar energy drink and the site is looking truly spectacular. Thanks to the predominantly dry weather the site lives up to its name with the grass in tip top shape. As always the big wheel is hard to avoid for those who want a bird's eye view of the action and the first of the stages fans will encounter upon entering through the main entrance is the Radio 1 dance stage. Once again, the Sunset Strip area will feature the Hangout where acts including Travis surprised revellers with pop up appearances last year. The main stage itself features two entrance and exit points for those wanting to use the pen to get as close as possible to their idols. Though parking is restricted around the site area, there are pick up and drop off points on the Broomielaw and London Road. An East Carriageway leads to the VIP entrance for those with fancy tickets leading onto the VIP area, which is adjacent to a heavily guarded backstage compound where artists will be chilling before and after their sets. Charging points courtesy of 3 are dotted around the festival site as well as bars, cocktail bars, urinals and toilets including accessible toilets, water points and food vendors. Up to 50,000 music fans are likely to attend the festival daily. The King Tut's remains a great place to chill as is the BBC Introducing Stage. As well as the headline acts other favourites include Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C and Gracie Abrams as well as homegrown acts such as Dictator, Twin Atlantic, Nina Nesbitt and Calum Bowie. Doors open at 11am each day. There are also first aid points for those who catch a glimpse of this year's bar prices or who may need more serious medical attention. A vodka and RockStar energy drink will set you back £10.20. A can of Pepsi is a snip at £3.15 while a lager will set you back a mere £6.75. The city's subway will be closed all three days when the event is taking place due to the latest wave of strike action due to a dispute between the Unite union and subway operator Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). More than 100 workers will go on strike over working conditions beginning today (FRI) before returning to work on Monday. With a heatwave forecast over the weekend, revellers are being advised to take care in the sun. TRNSMT Event Manager Katt Lingard said: "We want everyone to have an amazing and safe time at Rockstar Energy presents TRNSMT, so we're encouraging fans to look after themselves and each other throughout the weekend. In the glorious Glasgow weather that we are expecting, fans are encouraged to bring an empty, soft reusable water bottle (no larger than 500ml and not made of hard plastic, glass, or metal) to refill at one of the many free drinking water stations onsite, dress appropriately for the weather whilst remembering that it will get cooler at night, and take regular breaks." Kat added: "We want everyone to have the best weekend possible, and that starts before you even get to the gates. Plan ahead, check your ticket is ready in the TRNSMT app, and remember – everyone's here to have a good time. Look after yourself and those around you, and don't miss out on the amazing acts you've been waiting all year to see. "We can't wait to welcome everyone back to Glasgow Green for what's set to be an unforgettable weekend. Whether it's your first TRNSMT or your seventh, come prepared, look out for each other, and soak up every moment. The countdown is almost over – let's make it one to remember.' The BBC will be broadcasting from TRNSMT on the iPlayer.
