Young cricket star Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes 48 in successful run chase
Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged 14, celebrates after scoring a century during the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, 28 April, 2025. Photo: SAJJAD HUSSAIN The 14-year-old prodigy who lit up the Indian Premier League last month, has narrowly missed out on a half-century in India's win over England in their first Under-19 one-day international. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player to score a century in the IPL while playing for Rajasthan, opened the batting for India and immediately made an impact as he smashed 48 runs in just 19 deliveries as India comfortably chased down the 175 run target. They won by six wickets with 26 overs to spare. England had limped to 174 in 42.2 overs after Rocky Flintoff, son of England great Andrew Flintoff, crafted a patient 56 from 90 deliveries but his disciplined knock was quickly overshadowed by Suryavanshi's fireworks. In his debut season in the Indian Premier League, Suryavanshi has justified the hype around him by scoring 252 runs in seven matches, including a century which made him the youngest player to score a hundred in men's Twenty20 cricket. Suryavanshi only burgeoned his reputation as he relied on his IPL experience, smashing three fours and five sixes at Hove, where India were going at nearly 10 runs an over. He scored 21 runs in the sixth over from Jack Home when the Indian teenager cleared the ropes three times before he went after James Minto, with both bowlers immediately taken out of the attack. Suryavanshi eventually fell to spinner Ralphie Albert when he skied an effort to point, but he had laid the foundation for the chase before Abhigyan Kundu (45 not out) guided India over the line. - Reuters

Freddie Flintoff leaves son Rocky, 17, OUT of England Lions team for India test
FREDDIE FLINTOFF has left his son Rocky out of the England Lions team against India. Lions head coach Flintoff benched the 17-year-old batter for the test match against India's feeder team on Friday. Rocky has been suffering with injuries in recent months, but the reason for his snub is unclear. The Lions face India A as part of a four-day test at the Spitfire Ground in Canterbury, with the Asian side currently 50-2 in the first innings. The talented batter missed the first part of the County Championship season because of a back injury. Rocky, who turned 17 last month, earned his third call up to England's Lions feeder team last week. Like his dad, Rocky came through the ranks with Lancashire County, signing his first professional deal in June 2024. A right-handed batsman and right arm fast-medium bowler, he is the youngest player to appear for Lancashire, at 16 years and 113 days. He is also the youngest to score a match-winning century for the England Under-19s team. The teenager was first called up for the Lions against South Africa A in December, before being recalled to face Australia XI a month later. On the Aussie tour, he broke his dad Freddie's record as the youngest player to score a Lions century after hitting 126 in Brisbane. Flintoff Snr began helping the England in 2023 following his near-fatal car accident while filming for Top Gear. I thought my face had been ripped off after it was dragged 150ft along Tarmac in Top Gear crash, says Freddie Flintoff The full extent of the retired all-rounder's injuries were laid bare in a new Disney+ documentary last month. The star, 47, was dragged nose down for 50 metres in the 2022 horror accident in Dunsfold, Surrey. He said: 'I was frightened to death. I thought I was dead. I was conscious but I couldn't see anything. I was thinking, 'Is that it?' 'But I had my hat come over my eyes! So I pulled my hat up and I thought, 'I'm on the Top Gear track — this isn't heaven!'' Meanwhile, first team star Chris Woakes will make his return from an ankle injury after being selected for two Lions fixtures with India A. The 36-year-old has not played since January, but has been named in a 15-man squad for the second-string fixtures, starting on 30 May and 6 June. 3

5 Father-Son Cricketing Duos Who Have Faced India – Flintoffs Are The Latest
In a twist laced with nostalgia and symbolism, Rocky Flintoff, the 17-year-old son of legendary England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, has been named in the England Lions squad for two upcoming four-day matches against India 'A'. The red-ball fixtures, scheduled to begin on May 30, will act as a prelude to India's much-anticipated 5-Test tour of England later this summer. Rocky's selection not only draws attention to his rising talent, highlighted by a century against Cricket Australia XI earlier this year, but also rekindles memories of his father's iconic clashes with India. Andrew Flintoff, once the heartbeat of England's middle order and one of cricket's fiercest competitors in the early 2000s, famously played a crucial role in England's 2005 Ashes triumph and left an indelible mark on cricket fans in India during numerous spirited encounters.
