Samsung Launched The Galaxy Z Fold 7 But Where Is The Tri-Fold Device?
Last Updated: Samsung Galaxy tri-fold device launch has been in the news for a while and the company might have given us more clues about its unveiling. Samsung Galaxy Unpacked came and went this month, where we saw the new Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Watch 8 series. However, many people expected the brand to have a surprise unveiling or a short teaser for another product, which eventually ended up being the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE model. But where is the tri-fold device that has been in the news for a few months, and Samsung even gave us a teaser of the product at the Galaxy S25 launch in January. A new report gives us more insight into what Samsung plans to do with the next-gen foldable device and when it could launch. Samsung's mobile business chief has reportedly shared the launch details for the tri-fold device which could be called the Galaxy G Fold. TM Roh has been quoted in a report by The Korea Times, saying the company is actively working on the tri-foldable device and it intends to launch the new product later this year. Roh is probably a good source as an official spokesperson for the brand, and these comments suggest Samsung is ironing out the final bits of the new device before having it ready to launch before the year ends. He does not give any specifics on the timeline, but we can assume it could be around October or even November, once the iPhone 17 buzz is over. Samsung Tri-Fold Device Launch: What It Might Offer? Samsung's tri-fold device is still a mystery at least in terms of the features and hardware but a new leak has hinted at its possible launch price. The details from South Korea suggest the Samsung tri-fold price could be around $3,000 (Rs 2.56 lakh approx) which takes it into the Apple Vision Pro territory. Huawei showed us what a tri-fold device can offer, especially when you unfold them. You get a smartphone as well as a 10-inch screen like a tablet packing into one product. The company even offers a keyboard and other accessories to really make use of its versatility. Samsung is expected to have a similar plan for its rumoured Galaxy Fold G model, and it needs the software to be tuned and optimised to run seamlessly across all the avatars of this device. And if the product is going to cost as much, the company needs everything to be close to being perfect. view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 08:52 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Samsung smartphone head breaks silence on tri-fold phones, hints at 2025 debut
Ever since Huawei launched the Mate XT Ultimate Edition – the world's first tri-fold phone, rumour had it that Samsung was also working on a similar device. Recently, Samsung rolled out a One UI 8 beta build, which features new animations that suggested that a tri-fold phone was indeed in development. Now, Samsung Electronics' Device Experience Division head Roh Tae-moon has confirmed that the company is indeed working to launch a tri-fold phone by the end of the year. 'We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year. We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon', said Roh in a press conference. In a statement to Android Authority, a Samsung executive said they had decided on the tri-fold design, but the company was debating whether the market had demand for the new form factor. The recently leaked animation from the One UI 8 beta build hints that, unlike the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Edition, Samsung's tri-fold phone, which may bear the Galaxy G Fold moniker, may have hinges that fold inwards instead of outwards. It also suggests that Samsung's tri-fold phone will have two hinges of different sizes, with the left side folding inwards and the right side sandwiching on the top. And like the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Edition, Samsung might warn users that they are not to fold the right panel side as the protruding camera island may prevent the phone from folding flat and damage it. This means that it will be similar to the G-shaped prototype, which the company showcased earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress. And while not much is known about Samsung's tri-fold phone, it will likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and cross the $3,000 price mark. Rumour also has it that the phone will have a screen size of between 9 and 10 inches when unfolded, which might make it more appealing for power users who want a tablet-like device in their pocket.

Samsung plans to launch its trifold smartphone by the end of 2025
In January Samsung teased an all new Galaxy Z trifold device, but no mention of it was made during its Unpacked event yesterday. However, the company now says that does indeed plan to release a smartphone with three displays by the end of 2025, acting head of device experience TM Roh told The Korea Times . "We are working hard on a trifold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year," said Roh. "We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon." Along with that confirmation, an unnamed executive told Android Authority much the same thing. Last month, Samsung teased the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra, but the smartphone shown in the image appeared to have two screens like other Z Fold models. That made us wonder what would be "Ultra" with the device, as the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 has most of the Galaxy S25 Ultra's key features. Other rumors have it that the trifold device could be called the Galaxy G Fold due to the hinge's shape. Samsung wouldn't be first to market with a trifold phone. Huawei has that, er, honor with the Mate XT, an accordion-style device that starts at an eye-watering $2,800.

Samsung's TM Roh says tri-fold phone could launch 'at the end of this year'
We've heard rumors that Samsung is working on a tri-fold smartphone, potentially to be called the Galaxy G Fold. Rumors circulated ahead of Galaxy Unpacked that the phone would be teased at the event. As it turns out, Samsung kept its focus on the devices scheduled to arrive soon — the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Watch 8. However, it wasn't a completely news-free day for the tri-fold phone, as Samsung's mobile chief was quoted by The Korea Times talking about the phone, its name and a potential release window. "We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year,' Roh said. "We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon." The rumors claiming the device would be called the Samsung Galaxy G Fold may have been overblown if Samsung hasn't finalized a name yet. Or, the company could be on track to call it that, and Roh isn't ready to spill the beans yet. Another rumor, which might be the scariest of all, suggests that Samsung plans to launch the phone for around $2,900. Another rumor says it could sell for between $3,000 and $3,500. Crazy as that seems, with the new Z Fold 7 launching for $1,999, a price around $3,000 for the larger phone with an extra hinge doesn't sound as shocking. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. We've heard that the tri-fold will feature a 10-inch OLED screen, which is closer in size to one of the best tablets than even traditional folding smartphones. The Z Fold 7 has an 8-inch main display.

Monsoon session likely in mid-July, crowd management bill to steal focus
Bengaluru: Although BJP, the principal opposition party, has been demanding a special session of the legislature to debate the recent stadium stampede tragedy, the govt is leaning towards holding a regular monsoon session in mid-July. Authorities have tentatively fixed July 14 as the start date for the session though the cabinet, will discuss the session's schedule at the next meeting. "A two-week session with 10 working days in mid-July fits well before the festival season," said a senior official from the parliamentary affairs department. "The cabinet may either set the dates or authorise the chief minister to decide and advise the governor accordingly." By convention, the gap between two sessions should not exceed six months. Since the budget session — the previous one — ended on March 21, the govt has until the third week of Sept to convene the next session. But CM Siddaramaiah is said to be in favour of an early session amid BJP's pressure over the stampede tragedy that claimed 11 lives during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. Siddaramaiah reportedly wants to end the public discourse by facilitating a debate on the incident in the assembly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Зачем на ночь сжигают лавровый лист? Undo Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, addressing the controversy, urged the opposition to use parliamentary procedures rather than protests. "It is an unfortunate incident," he said. "We took stern action, including suspending police officials and ordering a judicial probe. Let the opposition debate the issue in the assembly instead of creating a public spectacle for political gain." The session is expected to begin with the assembly ratifying revocation of suspension of 18 BJP legislators. These MLAs were suspended on the last day of the previous session on charges of indiscipline and unruly behaviour, even as the opposition demanded a judicial investigation over the alleged honey trap targeting cooperation minister KN Rajanna and other members. Speaker UT Khader decided to revoke the suspensions after Siddaramaiah intervened, but rules demand the decision must be ratified through a resolution. The session is likely to be stormy as BJP and JD(S) are preparing to corner the govt over the stampede tragedy. In response, the govt plans to introduce a bill on crowd management. "We want to bring in a policy for crowd management and it is the need of the hour. We will prepare a framework, and a bill may be introduced," said Shivakumar. Parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil said the govt has already prepared a draft bill, while home minister G Parameshwara, whose department is expected to pilot the bill, said standard operating procedures on managing crowds during big events are being considered for inclusion in the proposed legislation. Other legislations likely to come up include the Gig Workers Welfare Bill, currently in the form of an ordinance, and the Rohith Vemula Bill aimed at protecting Dalit students in higher educational institutions. The contentious proposed bill to increase work hours in the private sector is also expected to generate debate, along with the proposed caste census.
