Rs 2 Crore In Bank, Mini Mansion In Delhi: "Drug Queen's" Empire Falls

New Delhi: Delhi Police have seized properties worth approximately Rs 4 crore linked to an alleged drug syndicate led by a woman identified as Kusum, a long-time resident of the Sultanpuri area in North-West Delhi. Kusum, referred to by officials as the "drug queen" of Sultanpuri, is currently missing. She has been untraceable since March, when a police raid on her residence led to the arrest of her son and the recovery of large quantities of drugs and cash. According to police sources, a total of eight immovable properties have been seized. Seven of these are located within Sultanpuri itself, while the eighth is in Rohini's Sector 24. Police records reveal that Kusum is already facing 12 cases registered under the NDPS Act. According to sources, she is the central figure in an illicit drug supply chain that operated in North-West Delhi, especially in Sultanpuri. During the March raid, Kusum's son, Amit, was arrested. From the premises, officers recovered 550 packets of heroin, a stash of tramadol tablets -- commonly misused as a narcotic painkiller -- Rs 14 lakh in cash, and a Mahindra Scorpio SUV. The recovery, police believe, offered leads into the scale of the operation. Following this the bank transactions of Kusum's two daughters were probed. The probe revealed deposits totalling approximately Rs 2 crore over the past 18 months. What drew attention was thousands of small-value deposits, most ranging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000, into multiple bank accounts. In the first half of this year alone, approximately Rs 70 lakh was deposited across various accounts linked to the daughters. Police have confirmed that neither of the two was able to offer a credible explanation for the sources of these funds. Another discovery was of a building in Sultanpuri. According to sources, the structure had been assembled by knocking down the interior walls of four separate housing units, creating a single, four-storey complex. From the outside, the homes appeared unremarkable. Internally, however, they had been connected to form what police described as a "mini-mansion". Delhi Police have formally written to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with details about the building. An MCD departmental review of the building's status and approvals is expected shortly.

Kusum's Empire Crumbles: Drug Supply Racket Busted

New Delhi: Delhi Police have seized assets worth Rs 4 crore from Kusum, a notorious drug dealer from northwest Delhi's Sultanpuri. She had been absconding after a police raid at her home in March. The assets include eight properties, seven of which are located in Sultanpuri itself and one in Rohini's Sector 24. All of them, the cops claimed, were acquired through illicit money earned from large-scale drug trafficking. Kusum is the alleged kingpin of a tightly guarded local narcotics operation based out of Sultanpuri. She has 12 cases registered against her under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act filed in various districts and by the Crime Branch. Police said that the financial trail leading to the seizure was uncovered during a months-long investigation following the March raid which came after the anti-narcotics squad of the outer district police led by inspector Ritesh discovered suspicious movements in the area. "The money was transferred through dozens of small-value transactions, mostly ranging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000, across multiple bank accounts. Notably, Rs 70 lakh of this amount was deposited in just the first six months of this year," the officer added. Police said the two daughters failed to provide any legitimate explanation for the source of the money, further strengthening the case against the family. The cops had narrowed their focus on a particular house after observing repeated visits by known drug suppliers. "Kusum's residence or what appeared from the outside to be four separate residences, turned out to be a single massive structure on the inside with ground plus four floors, created by knocking down internal walls and merging four adjoining houses," said a police officer. In a densely populated working-class locality like Sultanpuri, where cramped one-room tenements are the norm, this property stood out in both size and scale. Police have written to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, requesting the demolition of the said residence as it was against building norms. When contacted, Sachin Sharma, DCP (North), confirmed the developments and said investigation was under way. With the seizure of her Rs 4 crore property, police said the area's drug supply lines had been severely disrupted. The hunt for Kusum herself continues.

‘Amitabh Bachchan heard my insult and quietly walked away; I died a thousand deaths': Rohini Hattangadi recalls first-ever interaction

Veteran actor Rohini Hattangadi, who was typecast as elderly women for most of her career, reflected on working with Amitabh Bachchan. She played the mother of Bachchan's characters in films such as Agneepath and Shahenshah; the latter was shot during troubling times for the superstar, after his unsuccessful stint in politics. In an interview, she recalled her first-ever interaction with the actor on set, and said that she inadvertently insulted him. Rohini said that she disliked the work he'd done after surviving a near-death accident on the film Coolie, and mistakenly let him know. In an appearance on the Friday Talkies YouTube channel, she was asked about her equation with the legendary star, who happens to be older than her in real life. She said that she agreed to do Shahenshah, and was very nervous about meeting Amitabh finally. She arrived on set and waited anxiously with her co-star Supriya Pathak. Supriya had already worked with Amitabh for a few days, and had developed a rapport with him. While the two of them were waiting to be called on set for a shot, Amitabh walked into the room wearing an odd costume, and remarked to Supriya, 'Look how they've dressed me.' I immediately bit my tongue. He didn't say anything, and walked away quietly. I looked at Supriya in shock. What had I done. I spent the next few minutes in terror. I kept running scenarios in my mind; how I'd respond if Mr Bachchan said something to me. I had different replies planned. I died a thousand deaths, waiting to come face to face with him.' But, to her surprise, Amitabh didn't mention the awkward interaction at all, and continued working as if nothing had happened. 'After that, it was smooth sailing for me. That's what makes him a great star,' Rohini said. She admitted that she found his performance in the film Laawaris to be unworthy of his talent, and said that she felt the same about his post-accident films such as Inquilaab and Sharaabi. 'But he honoured his word to producers and directors, and fulfilled his commitment to them,' she said. Many of Amitabh's films were left in the lurch as he recovered from the injury he sustained on Coolie, and he made it a point to complete them when he got better.
