Factory worker jailed 9 months for iron-rod assault on colleague
File photo for illustration purposes SIBU (July 14): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced an aluminium factory worker to nine months in prison for assaulting and injuring his co-worker with an iron rod. Magistrate Romario Jonoi convicted Jefferson Emprang, 43, from Nanga Salim here on his own guilty plea to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt, framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code. The Section provides for up to 10 years' imprisonment or a fine or whipping, or with any two of such punishments, upon conviction. He committed the offence at a factory premises in Lorong Alan 2 here at about 6.30amon July 7, 2025. According to the facts of the case, the 27-year-old victim was seated in the driver's seat of a lorry when he was suddenly assaulted by Jefferson, who struck him on the left cheek using an iron rod. The victim immediately exited the lorry and fled the factory compound, but was pursued by the accused who swung the rod and struck the victim on the neck. Jefferson was arrested along Jalan Saga here at about 5pm on the same day, with police also seizing the iron rod from his workplace. It was not mentioned in court as to what triggered the attack. Man fined RM10,000 for breaking wife's car windscreens, windows in Sibu

SIBU (July 14): A 43-year-old man was fined RM10,000 in default one year's imprisonment by the Magistrates' Court here today for committing mischief by breaking his wife's car windscreens and windows. Yong Kai Seng, from Pasai Siong here, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Romario Jonoi to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code. The Section provides for a minimum of one year's imprisonment or a fine or both upon conviction. The accused failed to pay the fine. He committed the offence at an unnumbered house in Lorong Bahagia Selatan 4 here at around 3.44pm on July 2. Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, who is the accused's wife, received a video sent via WhatsApp by her foster sister showing the accused breaking the front and rear windscreens and windows of a car registered under the complainant's name using a hammer. He was arrested at about 11.25am on July 3 following a police report lodged by the complainant. Investigations found the accused had recorded the video himself and sent it to his wife's foster sister with the purpose of asking the complainant to meet in order to resolve their personal problems. Indonesian charged with countryman's murder in Sibu
SIBU: An Indonesian man has been charged in the Magistrate's Court here with murdering his countryman in a garden shed on Jalan Rantau Panjang last month. No plea was recorded from Heriadi, 39, when the charge was read out to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Romario Jonoi on Tuesday (July 8) as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Heriadi is charged with causing the death of Andi at about 7pm on June 22. The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the mandatory death sentence, or 30 to 40 years' jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The court set Aug 29 for mention. In the same court, Heriadi and his wife Keti, 36, were also jointly charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 (Amendment 2002) for being in the country without valid travel documents. They were charged wth committing the offence at Jalan Teku Pasai-Siong here at about 9.50pm on June 23. The offence carries a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both upon conviction. They also face six strokes of the cane if found guilty, as provided for under Section 6(3) of the Act. No plea was recorded from either accused, and the court set July 17 for mention. – Bernama

SIBU: An Indonesian national was charged in the Magistrate's Court today over the alleged murder of his countryman at a garden shed on Jalan Rantau Panjang last month. Heriadi, 39, did not enter a plea when the charge was read before Magistrate Romario Jonoi. SIBU (July 8): A 39-year-old Indonesian man was charged with the murder of a fellow countryman at the Magistrates' Court here today. Heriadi from Sambas, Indonesia, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for allegedly causing the death of a man named Andi at a garden hut in Jalan Rantau Panjang here around 7pm on June 22. No plea was taken, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Magistrate Romario Jonoi fixed Aug 29 for further mention of the case and ordered the accused to be further remanded. In a previous statement, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the victim, who was also in the state illegally, was found lying in a pool of blood by a member of the public on June 23.
