Whitecaps acquire Peruvian M Kenji Cabrera
(Photo credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images) The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired midfielder Kenji Cabrera from FBC Melgar of Peru on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Peruvian international is under contract through 2028 with an option for 2029. Cabrera will occupy U22 Initiative and international roster slots with Vancouver. 'Kenji is a player with the ability to impact the game offensively in central and wide areas,' Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said. 'In the last year, we've seen him develop into a key part of Melgar, and we believe he's ready to take the next step in his career.' Cabrera, who was born in Japan, tallied 16 goals and 17 assists in 122 matches with FBC Melgar from 2021-25.

CF Montreal acquire GK Thomas Gillier from Bologna
(Photo credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images) CF Montreal acquired goalkeeper Thomas Gillier on loan from Serie A side Bologna FC on Tuesday. The deal runs through the end of the 2025 season and includes an option to extend the loan through 2026. Gillier, 21, recently joined Bologna after making 26 appearances for Universidad Catolica in his native Chile. 'We are delighted to welcome Thomas to the club,' Montreal managing director Luca Saputo said. 'He is a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential who will add quality to the squad. We are convinced that he will integrate quickly into the group and bring healthy competition between our goalkeepers.' Montreal and Bologna are both owned by Joey Saputo, facilitating player movement between the two clubs. Gillier will be eligible to play when the MLS Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 24.
