'That's a McFelony.' McDonald's Restaurant Suffers Unfortunate Loss

There are few restaurants in America that are as iconic as McDonald's. The golden arches cover nearly every area of the country, and a Big Mac with a Coke and fries may be the most American meal around. The reverence for the fast food chain extends to its mascots, and that was on full display in a daring robbery at restaurant in Pennsylvania. The Nesquehoning Police Department in Carbon County, Pennsylvania said that a group of suspects walked into the restaurant and walked out with a Ronald McDonald statue. "We're not clowning around. This was a full-blown McNapping," police said. "We get it — times are tough, and therapy is expensive. But kidnapping a plastic icon of joy? "That's a McFelony." The police then said "if you see Ronald out in the wild — maybe at a party, passenger seat of a car, or sitting awkwardly in someone's yard — please call us." "this was clearly a distraction for a much larger mcheist. I'm sure orchestrated by the Hamburgler! He really sent in his "A" crew," one response read, playing into the puns based around the restaurant. "There should be a reward to find these people and Ronald. My fellow townspeople…..we ride at dawn," said another concerned citizen. Ronald McDonald was first introduced back in 1963 as a promotional element from a restaurateur who owned franchises in the Washington D.C. area. Former NBC weatherman Willard Scott was the first to portray the character on television, making his national debut in 1965. The following year, circus performer Coco the Clown helped revamp the character's appearance to the outfit and makeup he's worn for most of his career. The character has become a major part of the company's philanthropic endeavors. Ronald McDonald Houses exist around the world, and were established in accordance with the company to help parents stay next to or with their children as they undergo life-altering surgery or medical procedures. The first Ronald McDonald House was established in 1974 in the city of Philadelphia, and the network now extends to over 360 houses across 62 different countries. We'll see if the Ronald McDonald statue that was stolen makes its return. 'That's a McFelony.' McDonald's Restaurant Suffers Unfortunate Loss first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 8, 2025
