Cops recover arms, ammunition from East Garo Hills dist
Shillong: A substantial quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered by police from the East Garo Hills district during an operation in the early hours of Tuesday.
"On 23rd June, 2025, acting on reliable intelligence, a police team from Williamnagar and Rongjeng Police Station, East Garo Hills, conducted a successful search operation in a thick jungle near Chikama village under Rongjeng Police Station.
The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Williamnagar, along with other Officers and personnel from Rongjeng PS and Williamnagar, commenced at 11:30 PM on June 23, 2025," a police statement said on Tuesday.
"At approximately 2:00 AM on 24th June, 2025, the team unearthed a cache of arms and ammunition buried in the jungle near Chikama village," the police said.

The recovered items include one country-made pistol, 212 suspected live AK ammunition, 22 suspected anti-aircraft ammunition, 13 damaged anti-aircraft ammunition without pellets, 11 loose pellets, 52 numbers of 6.5 mm live ammunition, the police said.
"The recovered items were seized at the spot in the presence of witnesses. Further investigation is on," the superintendent of police, East Garo Hills district, SA Rynjah said.
