Country legend ‘in great spirits' following surgery after onstage stroke
Ronnie McDowell is doing well now that the country music legend had surgery a month after having a stroke on stage. 'I just got off the phone with my Dad. He is at home resting. He is in great spirits,' McDowell's son, Ronnie Jr., wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday, July 23. 'He said to tell everyone Thank you again for all of your thoughts, prayers and cards. He's been reading every one if them.' While McDowell's surgery was successful, there 'was a slight complication,' according to the singer's other son, Tyler. 'Today was quite the chapter. Tears, shaking, prayers — some shared with family, others alone. A couple of times, I walked outside, because everything unfolding made me believe he was gone," he wrote in a Facebook post. 'I'm not sure it's appropriate for me to dive into specifics just yet — especially since we're still sorting through them ourselves. But from what I understand, there was a slight complication, likely related to the blood thinners. Ronnie McDowell has not let his recent health scare get in the way of his live performances. The country music legend played two shows this past weekend as part of his 'Fan Appreciation' weekend, according to his son. The concerts came more than three weeks after McDowell, 75, was hospitalized after he had a stroke on stage. 'Well, it's about 5:00 in the morning, I just got home from getting everything squared away with the incredible concerts that DAD had for his Fan Appreciation Weekend,' Ronnie McDowell Jr. wrote in a Facebook post Sunday, July 13. 'Thank you all for coming out and making the concerts huge successes. A huge thank you to my wife and our son for that magnificent video and song that was shown during the show,' he wrote. 'I'm going to get some R&R and then I'll be ready to rock with my brother Nick Cross at Laylas at 2:00 p.m. today.... Thank you All again for coming out to the shows this weekend and for tuning in and making dad feel so special.' Both shows on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 were live-streamed on Ronnie's Facebook page. 'It was really a great weekend with Ronnie McDowell and his band,' one Facebook user commented on Ronnie Jr.'s post. 'Thank you for the wonderful show. 'This will be to address the blockage in his carotid artery, that caused the stroke. Other than that, he's sounding great and he's doing great, so please keep the prayers coming!' Surgery scheduled for country music icon nearly month after onstage stroke
Ronnie McDowell's surgery has been scheduled nearly a month after the country music legend had a stroke on stage. The singer's son, Ronnie Jr., said his father's surgery has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 in a Facebook post on July 15. 'It is hitting me hard. He is the Best Dad that any Son could ever ask for,' Ronnie Jr. wrote. 'We have traveled all over God's Creation together and we will continue to do so once he gets through this.... Ronnie McDowell is showing signs of improvement after the country music suffered an apparent stroke while performing. The singer's son, Ronnie Jr., said his father 'is doing much better' in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 25. 'He went to the doctor yesterday and they are retrieving all of his records from the Reading Hospital. They will be setting up his surgery shortly,' he wrote. 'As of yesterday he was still showing some signs of the stroke but I spoke with his nurse and they said that it was completely normal. It could go away within a day or a few months, but there is no long term damage (Thank You Jesus).' He added that he would post updates about his father's surgery. Ronnie McDowell suffered a mini-stroke during his concert in Pennsylvania over the weekend, his son Ronnie McDowell Jr. confirmed to The Post. Following the news that the 75-year-old country music star was hospitalized after slurring his words mid-concert, Ronnie Jr. clarified the details about his dad's health scare.
