Rooikat rings the bell for last call
The owners of the beloved Rooikat Wholesale Liquor announced on Monday, June 9, that they are in the process of selling their business to Ultra Liquors, another family-owned liquor company.
'The Rooikat family gladly joins hands with the Ultra family, and looks forward to Ultra continuing the excellence we've delivered over the last 12 years,' Johan Breytenbach, an owner of Rooikat shared.
Rooikat was adored by Lowvelders for their generous community work and for helping them gear up for a great night out.

Brothers Johan and Charl Breytenbach, André Brits and their sister, Ronel Agenbag, are all co-owners of Rooikat. Johan talked about what it was like working with his siblings:
'We had some intense fights, but later we went for a beer to make it all better.'
He has been in the liquor industry for 27 years and can reflect on many highs and lows in his career. He loved being a proud sponsor of Lowveld events and offering customers the best prices on liquor. The family plans to continue with their other businesses and will still reside in the Lowveld.

Johan offered his assurance that business will continue as usual and that all their staff will stay on and be in good hands.
Both parties will attend an official transaction meeting next Wednesday, which Lowvelder will attend to update readers on the final handover. A farewell is also in order and will be confirmed next week for locals to paint the town red one last time.
