Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July
Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The 2025 NFL season is quickly approaching – perhaps faster than you think. July 13 marks exactly eight weeks before the first Sunday of the regular season, but action is much closer to kicking off than that. Advertisement Between training camps, joint practices and preseason games, you'll soon be hearing all the updates about your favorite teams and players. Who looks good? Who is struggling? All that fun stuff that football fans obsess over during the summer. But how close exactly are we to seeing players on the field? Here's a look at the summer schedule for the NFL: NFL training camp dates for 2025 Every player – excluding holdouts – will be back in the building in the next 10 days. The Los Angeles Chargers' rookies have already reported to training camp, and more across the league will join them in the coming days. Advertisement Here's the full report dates for every team ahead of training camp (full team reports in bold): Saturday, July 12 Chargers (rookies) Tuesday, July 15 Bills (rookies), Dolphins (rookies), Ravens (rookies), Giants (rookies), 49ers (rookies), Seahawks (rookies) Thursday, July 17 Chargers, Raiders (rookies), Lions (rookies) Friday, July 18 Browns (rookies), Commanders (rookies), Packers (rookies) Saturday, July 19 Lions, Jets (rookies), Patriots (rookies), Jaguars (rookies), Bears (rookies) Sunday, July 20 Vikings (rookies) Monday, July 21 Chiefs, Cowboys, Colts (rookies), Bucs (rookies), Panthers (rookies) Tuesday, July 22 Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans, Raiders, Commanders, Eagles, Giants, Bears, Packers, Vikings, Panthers, Bucs, Saints, 49ers, Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks Wednesday, July 23 Steelers, Falcons When is the first NFL game in 2025? Believe it or not, the first kickoff of the 2025 season is later this month. The Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions will face off in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, July 31, airing on NBC and Peacock. This game is held annually on the Thursday before Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions in Canton, Ohio. The Chargers and Lions likely won't be playing many – or any – starters, considering the quick turnaround after the start of training camp. But just seeing those uniforms on the field is a welcome sight for football fans. Advertisement When does NFL preseason begin? The Hall of Fame Game is technically the start of the preseason action, but the rest of the league won't be playing for another week after that. Week 1 of the 2025 NFL preseason will be held from Thursday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 10. Here are the Week 1 preseason games: Thursday, Aug. 7 Colts at Ravens Bengals at Eagles Raiders at Seahawks Friday, Aug. 8 Lions at Falcons Browns at Panthers Commanders at Patriots Saturday, Aug. 9 Giants at Bills Texans at Vikings Cowboys at Rams Steelers at Jaguars Titans at Buccaneers Jets at Packers Chiefs at Cardinals Broncos at 49ers Sunday, Aug. 10 Dolphins at Bears Saints at Chargers When is the start of the NFL season? The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will host their division rival Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 opener on Thursday, Sept. 4. That game also airs on NBC and Peacock as Philly raises its second Super Bowl banner. Advertisement Week 1 continues on Friday with the Chargers and Chiefs facing off in Brazil, followed by a full Sunday schedule on Sept. 7 and a Monday night matchup between the Bears and Vikings to wrap things up.

Cam Ward Highlights Titans Teammate With Powerful Message on Monday
Cam Ward Highlights Titans Teammate With Powerful Message on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There are already bonds being formed between the Tennessee Titans and rookie quarterback Cam Ward. The former Miami Hurricanes has made an early impression on his teammates. Advertisement Before the Titans' minicamps began in June, Ward told reporters his plans for the offseason. 'Work out, stay in the playbook, and throw the (expletive) out the ball,' said Ward. With a penchant for blunt talk, Ward lived up to his standard when a clip from one of his workouts was reshared on the NFL's X account. Ward, shown moving between stations at the gym, explained what he likes about his teammate, wide receiver Calvin Ridley, and what makes him "different." "That boy there? Different. How he move, everything that I like see. (He's) what a receiver is supposed to be like," said Ward. "That's why (Titans rookie receivers) Elic (Ayomanor), Chim (Dike), (Xavier Restrepo), Bryce (Oliver), all the guys in our room," Ward continued. "I'm glad they got (Ridley) cause like, I ain't never thrown to a receiver like him, (that) moves like him, can cut like him. And that boy, he ain't selfish, either. He wants the rookies-- he wants us to do better than him, cause he's gonna end up getting his one-on-ones." Advertisement The Titans reloaded at the receiver position this offseason. Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett are the Nos. 2 and 3 receivers behind Ridley. However, the rest of the depth chart at wideout is an open competition. Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward (1).Steve Roberts-Imagn Images Ridley was Tennessee's leading receiver in 2024. He caught 64 passes for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns. No other pass-catcher had more than 500 receiving yards. No other receiver had more than 40 receptions. With 195.1 passing yards per game last season, Tennessee ranked 26th in the NFL. The arrival of Ward, who's been described as a "baller" by ESPN's Louis Riddick in an interview with Athlon's Luke Easterling, can hopefully change the fortunes for his franchise. NBA Summer League: OKC Thunder Salt Lake City Preview
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 16: Nikola Topić #44 of the Oklahoma City Thunder poses for a portrait ... More during the 2024 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot at UNLV on July 16, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by) NBA Summer League is back again for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Just days removed from the 2025 NBA Draft, it's the first chance to see the newest rookies in action across the league, even outside of the Thunder's talented group. Before heading to Las Vegas for the main Summer League event, the Thunder will once again participate in the Salt Lake City Summer League. Just as it has in years past, this circus features a four-team format with three games each, where Oklahoma City will face off against the Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, and Philadelphia 76ers. Who will be taking the floor for the Thunder in Salt Lake City, and what should we be watching for? Schedule The four teams competing in Salt Lake City will play the other three once each, meaning three games for each squad. This summer's event is spread out over four days, but even then, there should be quite a bit of lineup variability, especially with a five-game slate in Las Vegas on the schedule next. July 5: Memphis Grizzlies | 6:00 PM on ESPNU This will be arguably the best contest of the Salt Lake City stint for Oklahoma City, mostly due to the anticipation. There's nothing better than getting to see a new player in the system for the first time. The Grizzlies will be competitive this summer, with a roster headlined by rookie Cedric Coward and an intriguing cast that includes GG Jackson, Jaylen Wells and Javon Small. With that in mind, it's still unclear which of these key players will actually take the floor due to several injuries. July 7: Philadelphia 76ers | 6:00 PM on ESPN After a disappointing season, the Sixers will have a chance to take a huge step forward this season. It will be a tall task, but incoming rookie VJ Edgecombe expects to slot into the rotation immediately despite being drafted just over a week ago. His first opportunities to shine ahead of the upcoming season will be in Salt Lake City, as he joins Adem Bona, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Justin Edwards, Johni Broome, Ian Almansa and Hunter Sallis on this young and loaded roster. July 8: Utah Jazz | 8:00 PM on ESPN+ The host team of this entire event, the Jazz will boast one of the most polarizing players in the entire NBA as Ace Bailey makes his debut in Utah. A player with superstar upside, he's already had an interesting first few weeks in the league. He will be joined by fellow rookies Walter Clayton Jr. and John Tonje, along with returning players in Taylor Hendricks, Isaiah Collier, Kyle Filipowski and Cody Williams. This is one of the most talented young teams in the NBA, so the opportunity for them to develop this summer is important. Roster Though a talented roster overall, this may be one of the more underwhelming squads the Thunder has rolled out in recent seasons. That's largely a function of being a championship team, and one without a top pick unlike some recent seasons as the team was rebuilt. There are exciting players, but outside of Nikola Topic finally making his way to the floor, the flashy star upside doesn't exist in this particular group. Even then, this should be a competitive team all summer. Here's the full roster for the Thunder's NBA Summer League: Key Players Nikola Topic Ready to make his Thunder debut, Topic will be among the most anticipated players this summer across the league. Ajay Mitchell After carving out a role as a rookie, Mitchell will look to take another step forward as a leader and primary playmaker with OKC this summer. Brooks Barnhizer After being selected by the Thunder in the second round, Barnhizer needs to showcase his hard-nosed style of play in his first few games. Alex Ducas Fighting for another two-way contract, this is a pivotal summer for Ducas and his time in OKC. Brandon Carlson Coming off a quietly impressive season with the Thunder, Carlson is a likely candidate to earn another two-way spot with the team in the 2025-26 campaign. Jazian Gortman Although undersized, Gortman will look to showcase his talent with the Thunder after spending last season in the Dallas Mavericks' organization. Malevy Leons Back with the Thunder again in NBA Summer League this year, Leons will likely earn quality minutes, especially as the next few weeks go on. Additional Notes

Arizona Cardinals 2nd-year player outlook: WR Marvin Harrison Jr.
The Arizona Cardinals drafted 12 players in 2024. Some of them had contributions as rookies. Some will have greater roles in 2025. Others will have to battle for the roster. Their first pick in 2024 was receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Advertisement Let's have a look at his outlook in 2025 Marvin Harrison Jr. 2024 season Harrison entered the season with massive expectations. He fell short of superstar rookie levels but didn't have a bad season. He still had one of the best rookie receiver seasons in Cardinals history. He had 62 receptions for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. He had dominant games, logging two 100-yard games and another with 96 yards. He wasn't consistent, though, looking like a rookie at times not knowing where he was supposed to be. Marvin Harrison Jr. outlook in 2025 Harrison will again be a starting receiver and will be their No. 1 option at receiver. He should be a no-No. 1 target along with tight end Trey McBride this year. Advertisement He will play a lot, get a lot of opportunities and should be even better than he was as a rookie. It isn't unreasonable to expect over 1,000 yards.
