Killeen Fire Captain to be laid to rest May 20
KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – The family of Killeen firefighter Marvin Taylor III has confirmed visitation and funeral arrangements following his death on Mother's Day.
The visitation will take place on Monday, May 19 at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, located at 211 West Avenue B, from 1 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Fire servicemembers will perform a salute at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a recitation of the Rosary and Eulogy at 6:30 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove on that day, located at 1001 Georgetown Road.
Captain Taylor's funeral will be at the Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 20 at 11 a.m. There is limited parking and the church can accommodate a maximum of 400 guests, with an overflow room available for viewing the service.
A procession will follow the service, led by the Killeen Fire Department. The route will begin at the church, travel through Killeen and end at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, located at 330 Berry Lane. An official route map will be distributed once available.
The interment and the final department honors will be provided at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown.
Captain Taylor was off-duty at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, and had just left an Austin hospital after the birth of his fifth child. While traveling to pick up his other children and bring them back to the hospital to meet their new sibling, his vehicle was struck from the rear by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, killing him. The driver of the vehicle that struck Captain Taylor's vehicle was taken into custody by the Austin Police Department and has been charged.
The City of Killeen says Captain Taylor began his service with the department on July 7, 2014. He was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain on July 12, 2024, and most recently assigned to the Training Division as the Operations Training Captain. He held numerous fire certifications including Swift Water Boat Operator, Advanced Structural Firefighter, Fire Officer 1 and, most recently, obtaining TCFP Field Examiner. Marvin was also a member of the Texas A&M Task Force 1 Water Rescue Team, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) Wildland Team. He deployed many times with both teams to various large-scale incidents both in state and outside on Texas.
Captain Taylor's family and the Killeen Fire Department say they appreciate the community respecting the family's privacy during this time. They also are extremely thankful for the outpouring of support from residents near and far.
