My Favorite Airbnb: A Cottagecore Tiny Home in South Nashville
I must admit: I did not keep up with the sourdough making (or, truthfully, any of the baking), the flower tending, or the HIIT workouts, but I have stuck with one particular special interest from my pandemic life—cottagecore tiny homes. The dreamy, TikTok-accelerated phenomenon caught me at a crucial pivot: I was moving to New York for school, which meant I was shopping around for my own sense of taste in decor, but my proving grounds were little more than the size of a walk-in closet. Ever an acolyte to the aesthetic, I've always approached the challenge of square footage in the city with the thought that sometimes the smallest spaces can be the most joyous. So when I saw an Airbnb listing for a pastoral-set tiny home in Nashville, I knew I had found the perfect base for resting up after a reporting trip to SoBro's honky tonk scene. We took off in search of the the property right in the heat of CMA Fest, and the live percussion from roughly a dozen or so different country songs within earshot syncopated with the rhythm of Nashville's infamously jammed traffic. I felt like I could finally let out the breath I didn't know I was holding as we left the surround sound of chaos. Located in Rosedale, a cozy residential neighborhood in South Nashville, the Airbnb is tucked behind the owner's main house. A Pinterest-worthy chalkboard sign denotes the path to the tiny home. Walking under that first trellis to the garden was like stepping into a portal to the Hundred Acre Wood. The moments after were all ivy-covered pathways, elegant outdoor cats, and even a burbling brook. By the time we reached the gingerbread house façade of the place itself, I was swooning like the big city ingenue of a Hallmark Christmas movie, and we hadn't even stepped in. After pulling up our personalized code for the door, the air conditioning revived us from Nashville's muggy summer heat. A high-arched ceiling with a well appointed skylight beamed rays of sunlight into the space and fed the bounty of houseplants peppered throughout the house. All amenities felt like they were from a different time in the absolute best sense of the phrase. From the retro Frigidaire and copper-plated French press in the kitchen to the clawfoot tub in the bathroom, the curation of home goods evoked a sense of made-to-last craftsmanship that feels rarer by the day. We were delighted by the decision to show restraint in the tech used in the space, as well. The stone-paved path to the Airbnb is skirted with wild flora. Kat Chen Plenty of quality retro home goods and appliances are at your disposal. Kat Chen We used the record player to soundtrack our stay, and if you've ever wished you were at Woodstock or the Monterey Pop Festival, this modest record collection has you covered. Whether you choose to spin Dylan's greatest hits or a little Simon & Garfunkel, it's a nice change in pace from country and your Spotify Daylist. A narrow daybed can be extended into a queen, and a dangling handle from the roof of the kitchen area pulls out into a projector screen, both classic examples of a tiny home's doubled usage of space. On the first day of our break, we sat parked in our little home theater to catch up on the ever-enthralling lives of those Mormon Wives. The home's skylight shines down on the lofted bed in the mornings. Kat Chen Despite the compacted space, there was never anything to grow bored of during our three-day stay. I spent every morning soaking up the sun from the skylight, snuggling a little more into the soft-as-a-cloud loft bed. The desk overlooking the deck served nicely as a casual workstation to jot down my drafts by hand. I'd advise any future visitors to also pack their swimsuits, as the deck comes equipped with a hot tub framed with tea lights, ideal for an evening of unwinding serenaded by an unrehearsed concert of birdsong and flickering lightning bugs. It's important to note that this property definitely doesn't have the centrality of a downtown Nashville stay, and a car will be necessary for getting around. But we found that calling an Uber and ordering delivery was as simple and speedy a process as it is in the city, so if you're looking to hop back into the action, it exists only a 15-minute car ride away. Should you find yourself traveling to Tennessee's capital, go revel in the Nashville of the tourism brochures. Marvel at the shining neon lights, feel awestruck by Athena's imposing presence at The Parthenon, break out your best two-step on the dance floor. But know that there's a softer side to the city worth exploring too.

Neighbor's video shows "fireball" house explosion in Baltimore County community
A powerful explosion shook a subdivision in Rosedale, in Baltimore County, on Tuesday morning that backs up against the northbound lanes of I-95. The cause remains under investigation. Video shows massive flames New images WJZ obtained show flames tearing through the house on Callo Lane as stunned neighbors tried to make sense of what was happening just after 2 a.m. New images WJZ obtained show flames tearing through the house on Callo Lane as stunned neighbors tried to make sense of what was happening just after 2 a.m. Contributed photo "A big fireball. I mean, it was like nothing I've ever seen before, almost like a war zone," said neighbor Charles Pulliam. Pulliam shared a video knocking on his neighbors' doors as he desperately tried to wake them and warn of the danger. "I was in shock," Pulliam said. "I didn't know if it was some kind of terror attack or actually what might have been going on." Pulliam said the people who lived at the house were on vacation in Jamaica. No one was injured. "It's devastating to come back to nothing, but I guess they have to count their blessings because at least nobody was in the house at the time that it happened," Pulliam said. More of Pulliam's video shows flames lighting up the night sky. More of Pulliam's video shows flames lighting up the night sky. Contributed photo The explosion was so powerful, it left a shoe on the neighbor's roof and a mattress in their driveway. Pulliam said it blew the bumpers off a neighbor's truck. Because the Rosedale subdivision backs up against I-95, a traffic camera also captured the response. "It was one really big explosion, then a few smaller ones right behind it, but one that was extremely loud and then pop, pop, pop, pop," Pulliam said. Dispatch calls WJZ Investigates reviewed the initial dispatch calls from first responders. "First call described it as an explosion, and the second caller said that the house possibly exploded," one responder said. "I have a house that is completely exploded. We've got fire showing." Another described the house as "completely on the ground. It's gonna be a defensive operation. Could you go ahead and put a [untelligible] BG&E? Sounds like we may have a gas-fed fire." BGE and ATF are on scene WJZ captured BGE crews checking gas meters in homes along Callo Lane. The utility said that it is routine after an incident like this. "I've seen them go by doing the testing just to make sure there are no gas leaks. ATF came and asked questions—did we know anything about the neighbors," Pulliam said. Contributed photo The ATF's National Response Team is on the scene with a large number of investigators. Contributed photo WJZ Investigates spoke to retired ATF agent Richard Summerfield, who was once part of that team. "An ATF National Response Team is quite literally the best investigative group in the world when it comes to fires and explosions," Summerfield said. "The agents are all very highly trained, years of training in order to be there, and very experienced." They are typically on the scene for a week, but that can vary based on individual cases. The NTSB told WJZ Investigates it was not responding to this incident. They do handle gas pipeline issues. The first hours after a disaster are crucial to gather information, and severe storms rolled through the area Tuesday evening. "The scene can undergo environmental changes, particularly if you have adverse weather, thunderstorms, particularly," Summerfield said. "…It's just best to get on it while the evidence is fresh." Past Baltimore-area explosions There have been several devastating home explosions in the Baltimore area in recent years. A blast last August killed two people in Harford County. Investigators have looked at problems with the initial response to a gas odor there and the placement of gas and electric lines. In 2020, several townhomes exploded in Northwest Baltimore near the Reisterstown Road Plaza after gas buildup following a non-permitted HVAC repair And in August 2019, a Columbia shopping center exploded. The federal investigation revealed safety violations with the gas lines.

Rosedale Strawberry Festival wraps up another successful year
ROSEDALE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— This weekend wrapped up the summer festivities for Rosedale's Strawberry Festival. In the town of Rosedale, the Strawberry Festival continues to grow every year. The original festival developed, as strawberries were at one time the biggest crop in the area. Now, the annual festival, held the first week of June every year, marks the true start to summer. The Strawberry Princess Evelyn Lund and Strawberry Queen Emma Patton said they enjoy how hard everyone works to create this festival and admire how the community comes together. Sunday's strawberry eating contest wrapped up the 2025 festivities. Organizers say the festival is so special to the town of Rosedale and it takes many volunteers to make it come to life. 'There's a lot of people that take a fair drive to get here and there's a lot of people who walk right out of their back door. You know, the strawberry thing's been huge in this community and surrounding area, the township, for generations and decades,' said Matt Cottrell, organizer of this event along with his wife, Sarah Cottrell. There's a little something for everyone. Be sure to check out the event next summer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
