Preliminary hearing set for man charged in missing Detroit-area woman's death
A preliminary examination for 32-year-old DeAndre Booker, who is accused of killing Warren, Michigan, mother Ashley Elkins, has been set for later this year. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, the hearing is scheduled for Aug. 1, 6 and 8. Elkins, 30, was last seen on Jan. 2, 2025, and was reported missing by her family the following day. Investigators allege that Booker, who they say is Elkins' ex-boyfriend, killed the mother of two in his Roseville apartment before disposing of her body. Despite searches, including in a landfill, her remains have not been found. Investigators searched Booker's apartment on Jan. 7. During a hearing earlier this year, an officer testified to finding a large amount of blood in the bathroom, adding that DNA testing confirmed the blood was from Elkins. Booker is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment or mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual. He is also charged with lying to police in a related case. He is currently held in Macomb County Jail without bond. "The charges in this case are as serious as they come. We believe the evidence clearly supports the allegation that she was murdered and discarded without dignity. We are committed to seeking justice for her and her loved ones. Mother recovering after she was shot seven times Mother recovering after she was shot seven times Mother recovering after she was shot seven times A Roseville, Minnesota mother is recovering at home after she was shot seven times while picking up someone at a bar. On July 13, Tyra Rogers didn't need home health care. She was a thriving, healthy mother, but everything changed when she was giving her mom a ride home from a bar on the East side of St. Paul. Her daughter was also in the back seat. "The truck pulls up on the side of me and they start shooting," Rogers said. "I looked down and my sweater was smoking. My sweater was smoking, 'cause of how hot the bullet was." A bullet hole almost struck her daughter's car seat. "I asked, is my daughter okay, and the officer reached my arm back and I felt her, and I looked back. She was playing an officer in the ambulance with stickers," said Rogers. Rogers was shot seven times in her legs, back and gut. "My stomach got split open, I gotmaybe 20-something staples going down my whole stomach," Rogers says. She experiences soreness and aching pain, but Rogers says that's not what hurts most. She feels she is missing out on time with her daughter. "I like to bring her places and do stuff with her and now I can't 'cause I can't move around," she said. She's hoping now St. Paul police can close in on the case. Officers say they're still investigating. "I want the people who did this to know what they did, because it's really senseless," Rogers says. "There's too many shootings with women involved nowadays. They are hitting people who aren't their targets." Friends have set up an online fundraiser for Rogers since she can't work while she recovers. St. Paul police are asking anyone with information to give them a call. Anyone with information is encouraged to call investigators at 651-266-5858. Callers can remain anonymous.

Roseville police arrest suspect in mail carrier robbery
Officers have made an arrest in the robbery of a mail carrier in Roseville on Monday. Roseville police say the mail carrier was in the area of Pixie Place, in the northwest corner of the city. The suspect apparently went up to the mail carrier, flashed a gun, and stole some mail keys. The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Sacramento resident Laronzick Shepherd. Just hours after the robbery, officers in Sacramento pulled over Shepherd's vehicle and arrested him. Police say the weapon Shepherd allegedly flashed as well as the stolen mail keys were recovered. Shepherd has been booked into Placer County Jail and is facing robbery and other charges.
