Footy's grumpiest coach is caught on video in wild act as he parties with team after record-breaking win
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon showed off his wild side by hoisting one of his stars onto his shoulders at a wild party as the team celebrated a win that has gone down in the AFL history books. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera kicked two goals - one after the siren - to cap off his side's record-breaking win over Melbourne on Sunday, which saw the Saints pull off the greatest three-quarter-time comeback in VFL/AFL history as they erased a 46-point deficit. Lyon - who has forged a reputation as a no-nonsense force to be reckoned with in the league - was recorded chairing Wanganeen-Milera as music blared and other St Kilda stars recorded the scenes on their phones, drinks in hand and family in attendance. The party went off on Sunday night, just after the stunning win at Marvel Stadium, and it was a pre-planned celebration with the team getting a seven-day rest before they tackle North Melbourne. Lyon was in raptures in the coach's box as his side stormed home in one of the most dramatic finishes to a match in memory, and he foreshadowed the party in his post-game press conference. 'Get a bit of belief and we'll all get together tonight,' he said. 'We're trying to build out the mortar of the club, we've got a family function at a hotel. We're all getting there. 'We'll all enjoy each other's company but the cold reality is in 24 hours you're preparing [for the next match]. 'We did talk about the joy at halftime, of playing footy, don't let it get you down. 'As a kid, you'd love to be here.' The Saints slotted nine unanswered goals in the final term to win 15.6 (96) to 13.12 (90). It pips the previous the best last quarter revival, when the Brisbane Bears came from 45 points down at the final break to beat Hawthorn in 1995. Wanganeen-Milera calmly slotted his third goal after flying for a soaring mark with less than 20 seconds remaining. That levelled the scores before a 6-6-6 penalty in the middle was paid against the Demons, to the confusion of all players. Saints ruck Rowan Marshall was able to perfectly pick out Wanganeen-Milera running inside 50 just before the siren sounded. Any score would have given the Saints victory, but Wanganeen-Milera went back and kicked the goal, to a raucous reaction from the crowd. 'Underneath the exterior, I can get emotional,' Lyon said. 'A little bit watery when Nas took that mark. 'I think it's just that emotion, just for the players, just for them. 'Our young players never gave up, and our leaders never gave up, and they found a way.' Lyon also revealed Wanganeen-Milera, who had a game-high 34 disposals alongside his match-winning four goals, was in doubt to play due to a stye in his eye. 'I had a sleep-in this morning. Got up, make my coffee. I see four missed calls from the doctor,' Lyon said. 'Experience tells me this can't be good. 'He said 'Nas has come in' and they upped his antibiotics, given him an injection. 'I rang him (Wanganeen-Milera), he goes, 'No, I'll be right'. 'I just said, 'If you're not right, no pressure, we'll tap you out'. 'He just let us know so it was a good story.'

St Kilda produce history-making comeback thanks to Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
St Kilda have just made history by producing the largest comeback from three quarter time in AFL history. The Saints were comprehensively outplayed through the opening three quarters with Melbourne looking well on the way to victory after being up by 46-points. Join now and get your first month for just $1. Then the script got completely flipped in the fourth quarter. Ross Lyon's men flicked the switch and came home with a wet sail as they kicked nine unanswered goals to steal victory from the jaws of defeat. As the Saints drew to within a goal, the game was calling for a hero to emerge ... enter Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera. The star drifted deep inside the forward line and soared onto the shoulders of Bayley Fritsch before slotting the goal to level the scores up with only eight seconds left on the clock. Then chaos unfolded. As the ball went back to the centre square Melbourne were pinged for a 6-6-6 infringement. As the umpires attempted to get everybody set up before giving the free kick to the Saints, Wanganeen-Milera plotted with Rowan Marshall. Marshall took the ball and instantly kicked the ball towards the 50m arc as Wanganeen-Milera burst forward to take the diving mark. With the scores tied and the game on his boot, he made no mistake as he slotted his second goal and wrapped up the history-making comeback. The unbelievable scenes left fans across the country in disbelief as to what they had just seen unfold in front of their eyes. Saints forward Jack Higgins said after the game: 'Oh NAS - he's the best player in the world. Four goals … he's the GOAT. I thought we were no chance to win and we won!' Andrew French wrote on X: 'Unbelievable!!! Craziest finish I've ever seen!!' Steve Smith wrote: 'HOLY F***ING SHIT NASSSSSSS.' Mark Gottlieb wrote: 'UNBELIEVABLE. That's the craziest game of footy I've ever seen.' Brent Ford added: 'That is the best quarter of footy I've seen. Sign Nas for life. FMD.' AFL Media's Michael Whiting wrote: 'OMG, what was that?!!!' Earlier, the Saints had no answer for Bayley Fritsch who returned to his grand final form best with a three-goal opening term. But despite Melbourne's dominance for three quarters, St Kilda found a way to win.

St Kilda hope booming star can cause more nightmares
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is "booming" but St Kilda coach Ross Lyon says the star alone can't lift the Saints to the promised land. Wanganeen-Milera has quickly built a reputation as one of the AFL's best rebounding defenders. But the 22-year-old showed what a weapon he could be in the midfield last week with 36 disposals, 10 clearances and two goals in a 31-point loss to Geelong. Lyon indicated Wanganeen-Milera will again be deployed in the midfield for Sunday's clash with Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. Jack Higgins gets his third, but good lord Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera 👀#AFLSaintsPies — AFL (@AFL) March 21, 2024 St Kilda face a fight to retain the out-of-contract speedster, who is set to field massive offers from rival clubs. But even if the Saints do hold onto him, Lyon knows there's still plenty of work to do to get them into premiership mode. "Naz is booming. Obviously he's an exciting player, but it's a weakest link game, not a strongest link," Lyon said. "We're not basketball, when one player can dominate and take you to a championship. "We need an even spread of contribution." A few weeks ago, Hawthorn tried several taggers on Wanganeen-Milera, with little success. It even led Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell to joke that he would be having nightmares about the star Saint. "Even when he was on the bench I was worried about him by the end," Mitchell joked. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin says he will contemplate sending a tagger to Wanganeen-Milera this Sunday. "Clearly teams have had some success in tagging him but he still plays to a pretty high level," Goodwin said. "Last week you saw Geelong just back their system in and got a pretty positive result as well. "He's an incredible player. We'll be prepared for both but we probably won't give the Saints too much of a heads up about what we're going to do." Both St Kilda (5-13) and Melbourne (6-12) are well and truly out of the finals race. The Saints have recalled Zak Jones, Lance Collard and Arie Schoenmaker, with Lyon making the big call to drop Liam Henry. Max Heath also goes out of the side, with Darcy Wilson ruled out due to concussion. The Demons welcome back Tom Sparrow and Harrison Petty from concussion, while Charlie Spargo and Blake Howes also return. Steven May, who will contest his three-match ban at the AFL Appeals board next week, is out with concussion, while the axe fell on Koltyn Tholstrup, Harry Sharp and Matthew Jefferson.

Max Holmes ran riot through the middle with 32 disposals, while Ollie Dempsey (25 possessions) was outstanding in his 50th game. Coleman Medal leader Jeremy Cameron had four goals to his name by half-time, with a sublime drop punt from a tight angle the highlight of the match, and added a fifth late in the final term. But Cameron was far from the only threat in Geelong's forward half, with Shaun Mannagh kicking three goals from his 24 disposals, and Tyson Stengle, Patrick Dangerfield and Jack Martin each grabbing only sour point for Geelong was an injury concern to star defender Tom Stewart, who was subbed out in the third quarter with a knee Kilda has now lost six games in a row, with their most recent win coming against Melbourne in Round 12 before the Saints' mid-season bye.
