Mys makes a mark with community events on Yoga Day
Mysuru: The city celebrated International Yoga Day with various events marking the occasion. At Rotary Midtown Academy, the event began with a mass yoga session led by school principal Athmanandha. He spoke about the importance of yoga. School head Sarli and Niveda, along with the children and teachers, performed yoga. The govt Nature Cure and Yoga Medical College and Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) celebrated the Yoga Day at the VVCE auditorium. VVCE principal B Sadashive Gowda and vice-principal Shobha Shankar were present. The celebration featured yoga demonstrations, wellness talks, and interactive sessions, highlighting the significance of yoga for physical and mental well-being. About 400 participated in the event, including students, faculty, NSS and NCC volunteers, and staff members. Yoga Sangam was celebrated at JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital. The event was held in association with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush. CG Betsurmath, executive secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, who was the chief guest, stated in his speech that daily practice of yogasanas is good for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Jayakumar Swamyshree, a yoga expert from Pranava Yogadhama, Mysuru, elaborated on the historical roots of yoga. R Mahesh, director of medical education division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, was present.

Three students from Mysuru excel at 2024-25 Olympiad exam
Three students from Mysuru secured top ranks at the SOF Olympiad exam 2024-25. The first rank in international mathematics Olympiad carrying a gold medal and a merit certificate was bagged by V. Sidhvik from KNC Innovative Global School. Thanmayi A. R., a student of Rotary Midtown Academy, obtained the second rank in international Hindi Olympiad, earning a silver medal and a merit certificate. Mourya Gowtham from St Joseph's Central School secured the third rank in international social studies school Olympiad that carried a bronze medal and a merit certificate. A statement from the organisers said this year's SOF Olympiad saw the participation of millions of students from 72 countries, including 30,300 from schools in Mysuru.
