Naz Reid Inks Huge $125 Million Contract With Timberwolves

Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid signed a five-year, $125 million deal with the team, staying in Minnesota for the foreseeable future. Reid will earn $25 million per season during the deal, though his contract does come as a surprise. The Timberwolves were facing payroll issues since Reid and Julius Randle were set to be free agents. The team faced difficulties committing long-term money to both, though Reid is now secured heading into the season. Reid had a career year during last season, averaging 14.2 points per game and six rebounds in 27.5 minutes. Reid is still only 25 years old, leaving the Wolves with the early half of the center's prime. He is an ultra-valuable floor-spacing center who can rebound at a high level and make room for Anthony Edwards to operate in the paint. Reid provides a good change of pace over Gobert, who is a non-shooter that defends well, but operates in the paint on offense. On the other hand, Reid's defense is at replacement level, able to hold his own, although still limited when guarding out on the perimeter and with rim protection. He shot 37.9 percent from the 3-point line on 5.8 attempts per game over the last season, cementing himself as a top shooting big man. Julius Randle's future remains uncertain since he hasn't yet decided on his player option. Since the Timberwolves fell short of the NBA Finals, the team might shake up its roster and move on from Randle. Regardless of what happens with Randle, Reid's future in Minnesota is set. Amber Alert issued for Idaho teens feared to be with religious polygamy group

Idaho State Police issued an Amber Alert for two teens whose mother and authorities believes they may be headed out of state to meet a religious group known for practicing polygamy. On June 22, siblings Allen Larand Fischer, 13, and Rachelle Leray Fischer, 15, were reported missing from their home in Monteview, an unincorporated community in Jefferson County. At the time the brother and sister vanished, the children were living with their family's home in the eastern region of the state, officials said. Troopers reported the children "may be with adult siblings" en route to a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint (FLDS) group in Mendon, a city in northern Utah near where the children used to live. 'It is believed that the children willingly left to return to Trenton, Utah due to religious beliefs,' the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office posted in a news release statement. The town of Trenton is about 18 miles north of Mendon. "I'm very concerned," the children's mother Elizabeth Round, told East Idaho News. A former FLDS member, Round told the outlet she left the siblings at home to attend Sunday night Bible study and when she returned about two hours lageter, they were gone. "Somebody came by... and hauled off with them," Round said. In an interview, Roundy said the missing children may be with older siblings and members of the FLDS, she believes were involved in abducting her teenagers. Roundy was a member of the FLDS Church under she was exiled in 2020. Gone: Why wasn't an Amber Alert sent for the 3 sisters found dead in Washington? Description of missing Idaho teens Police described Allen as 5'9', 135 pounds with longer sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. The boy was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. Officials said Rachelle is 5'5', 135 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green dress. Anyone with information about the children or their possible sighting is asked to call 911 of the sheriff's office at at 208-745-9210 (Option 7). This is a developing story. Which two former Tar Heels is Drake Powell joining on the Brooklyn Nets?

Can this Tar Heel trio lead the Brooklyn Nets back to success? As Wednesday's First Round of the 2025 NBA Draft reach the 20s, Drake Powell waited to hear his name called. With the 22nd overall pick, the Atlanta Hawks selected Powell and traded him to the Brooklyn Nets. Once considered a lottery pick before the 2024-2025 college basketball season, Powell fought his way into the starting lineup after a string of impressive performances. By the 2025 portion, Powell was a mainstay in UNC's starting lineup, providing lockdown defense and a quick scoring punch tough to find elsewhere on the roster. Regardless of whether you think Powell would benefit from another year at North Carolina, he deserves his NBA Draft spot. Powell won't be the only former Tar Heel in Brooklyn, as he joins Cameron Johnson (2017-2019) and Day'Ron Sharpe (2020-2021). The UNC trio will try and help the Nets make an NBA Playoffs appearance for the first time in three seasons, when the Philadelphia 76ers won via a 4-0, First Round sweep. Powell started 27 of 40 games he appeared in during his lone season at North Carolina, averaging 7.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Powell will now compete with Ziaire Williams for minutes at small forward, though Brooklyn can also opt to utilize Powell at shooting guard – or a small power forward. Johnson is quickly turning into one of the NBA's budding young stars, coming off a season in which he averaged a trio of career highs: 18.8 points, 3.4 assists and 31.6 minutes per game. In Chapel Hill, Johnson was part of Tar Heel teams that made two NCAA Tournament appearances: once in the Second Round, followed by a trip to the Sweet 16. Though he only started two of the 50 games he appeared in, Sharpe is also coming off a season with career bests of 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game. Sharpe's lone season in Chapel Hill ended in a first-round NCAA Tournament exit, when Wisconsin beat UNC 85-62. The Luanda Accord Marks Landmark Commitment to Support Natural Diamond Industry

PRNewswire Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 23: Representatives from diamond-producing governments, industry stakeholders, and leaders from across the global natural diamond value chain signed the Luanda Accord, a landmark accord aimed at ensuring a bright future for the natural diamond industry through renewed investment in global generic marketing led by the Natural Diamond Council (NDC). * Leading diamond producing countries announce their intention to allocate 1% of annual diamond revenue towards promotion of natural diamonds through the Natural Diamond Council Recognizing the vital role that natural diamonds play in supporting livelihoods, generating national revenues, and driving development across Africa and other diamond producing regions, the Luanda Accord highlights the shared commitment of the signatories to work together to boost consumer interest in, understanding of, and demand for natural diamonds. "Natural diamonds are more than just precious stones -- they are a lifeline for millions of people and a cornerstone of economic opportunity in many of our countries," said Diamantino Azevedo, Angola's Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, speaking at the conclusion of the Ministerial Round Table meeting in Luanda. To support this, the Luanda Accord has confirmed their intent to contribute to a global marketing effort driven by the NDC, building on the foundations of previous campaigns and expanding its scope and reach in key consumer regions. Participating producer governments and De Beers Group intend to allocate 1% of the annual revenue they generate from rough diamond sales to fund this initiative. These funds will be entrusted to the NDC to execute a global category marketing approach. "This is a decisive step forward," said Minister of Minerals and Energy of Botswana, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo. "By coming together, we are sending a compelling message: that the future of natural diamonds lies in ambition, transparency, and a commitment to telling our story to the world - and that we are all committed to investing and telling that story." "Bringing together key leaders in the industry highlights the challenge facing the industry of insufficient investment in growing consumer demand. I am appreciative to all the Ministers who attended the meeting and their commitment to focus on consumer demand as the driver of future prosperity. I'd also like to thank De Beers for their unwavering support, and to the diamond centers of Antwerp, Dubai and Mumbai for their role in making the Accord happen," states David Kellie, CEO of Natural Diamond Council. Richa Singh, Managing Director, Natural Diamond Council, India & Middle East, stated , "India is at the heart of the natural diamond story not just as one of the biggest markets, but as a place where craftsmanship and tradition come alive. The Luanda Accord is a powerful step forward because it means we are investing in telling the real story behind natural diamonds, their rarity, authenticity, and the positive impact they have on communities around the world. At the Natural Diamond Council, we are proud to champion this initiative and ensure that natural diamonds continue to captivate and inspire in India's dynamic and growing market." With a focus on launching an enhanced category marketing campaign ahead of the 2025 peak sales season, the Luanda Accord represents a turning point for the industry -- and a renewed promise to the communities and countries whose futures are intertwined with the enduring brilliance of natural diamonds. About the Natural Diamond Council: Natural Diamond Council is a global not-for-profit organization which inspires and informs consumers about the incredible world of natural diamonds. NDC supports the integrity of the natural diamond industry by providing transparency and insight on the progress of this sector and its commitments to further betterment. NDC partners with industry stakeholders for the purpose of sharing best practices and driving trust and works to educate and protect the consumer. The NDC operates in the US, China, India, UAE, and Europe. For more information, please visit - Photo:
