Nebraska's Leo Curtis continues run for Iceland at FIBA U20 EuroBasket Tournament

Nebraska freshman Leo Curtis continued his run with Iceland in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Tournament on Thursday. In the consolation round, Iceland fell to Romania 72-57 with Curtis scoring nine points, six rebounds, and three assists. Despite a strong first half, Iceland collapsed from a 39-35 lead, only scoring 18 points in the second half. Curtis shot 3-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Iceland fell to the consolation round after facing Italy in the Round of 16 on Wednesday. Curtis scored 11 points in the outing and hauled in seven rebounds. However, Iceland fell to Italy in a lopsided 101-58 defeat. He was the only player on Iceland to reach double digits in scoring. Curtis currently averages 13.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game with two rounds of competition left. His play throughout the week helped him be listed as one of the top 10 standouts during the group phase of competition. Iceland now awaits its next opponent, which will be determined by Thursday's action. The game will be played on Saturday. 'I don't play for City yet' – Midfielder casts doubt over Etihad Stadium transfer

Manchester City supporters' hope of a swift conclusion to a transfer of Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan have been thrown into doubt. City have been working on a deal for the 18-year-old central midfielder as Hugo Viana progresses a major change of guard at the Etihad Stadium after replacing Txiki Begiristain as director of football earlier this summer. Viana has already overseen the arrival(s) of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki in this transfer window, with Manchester City making an early statement of intent ahead of the new season after enduring a sub-par 2024-25 campaign. A meagre third-place Premier League, a Round of 16 exit in the UEFA Champions League and defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final in the recent campaign has prompted officials at the Etihad Stadium to conduct a ruthless audit of Guardiola's first-team squad. After a strong start to the transfer window, Manchester City are understood to have won the race to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg for an amount that is set to record the highest transfer fee paid for a player coming out of Norway. Manchester City's midfield has already undergone major change in this window, with Reijnders and Cherki joining in after club bosses decided against offering a new deal to Kevin De Bruyne, who has joined Napoli on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year contract with the newly-crowned Serie A champions. After returning home from their FIFA Club World Cup commitments in the United States in June, Viana and co are believed to be shifted their focus on outgoings to streamline Guardiola's bloated squad and cut the first-team wage bill before the new Premier League campaign begins in August. City have already sold Kyle Walker to Burnley in a deal that could fetch the club £5 million. Maximo Perrone is set to join Como on a permanent deal, with James McAtee also expected to leave permanently. Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish have been told to find new clubs, with at least one centre-half also expected to depart before the window closes on September 1. Speaking to a young supporter earlier this month, Sverre Nypan insisted that while he 'does not play for (Manchester) City yet', there remains a chance of joining the Etihad Stadium club in what he described as a 'maybe' possibility. When quizzed by the young fan on why joining Manchester City could only be described as a 'maybe' for now, Nypan continued, 'I don't know we'll see, it's not done.' Borussia Dortmund have also expressed an interest in Nypan, who has established himself as one of Europe's brightest midfield prospects in recent seasons, which could well see him link up with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium when the new season begins. It remains to be seen whether Nypan is considered as an immediate addition to Guardiola's squad amid uncertainty over the future of Ilkay Gundogan, who has attracted interest from Turkey despite wanting to stay on at Manchester City after returning to the club from Barcelona in dramatic, last-minute fashion last summer.

Here's how much money the Wimbledon 2025 winners and runner-ups earn

The 2025 edition of Wimbledon is all set to conclude today at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, with the men's singles final event featuring Jannik Sinner and two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Wimbledon has long been regarded as one of the most iconic and prestigious tournaments in tennis—or even in sports history—not just because of the level of history it carries with it, but also how the event rewards its players. While the winner, runner-up and semi-finalists are usually the ones walking away with big money, any player who even qualifies for the main draw does not go unrewarded either. So, to give a deeper perspective, we have broken down a detailed report of how a player will earn at Wimbledon 2025 based on their performance in the event. Champion to Take Home a Record £3 Million (Approx. ₹32.25 Crore) The winner of the Wimbledon 2025 final between Sinner and Alcaraz will receive a massive £3,000,000 in prize money, which converts to approximately ₹32.25 crore. This marks one of the highest single paydays in tennis, maintaining Wimbledon's status as the most lucrative Grand Slam. Runner-Up to Receive £1.52 Million (Approx. ₹16.34 Crore) Whoever between Sinner and Alcaraz loses at Centre Court today will still walk away with an impressive £1,520,000, or around ₹16.34 crore. Although falling just short of the title, the runner-up prize ensures that top performances deep into the tournament remain financially rewarding and motivating for elite-level athletes. Semi-Finalists Earn £775,000 Each (Approx. ₹8.32 Crore) Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, whose journeys ended in the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2025, will not go unrewarded either, as each semi-finalist is awarded £775,000, which equals roughly ₹8.32 crore. This substantial figure highlights how even reaching the penultimate round guarantees players a strong return on their performance. Quarter-Finalists to Pocket £400,000 Each (Approx. ₹4.3 Crore) Reaching the quarter-final stage will earn players a cheque of £400,000, equivalent to about ₹4.3 crore. These players typically face top seeds and deliver thrilling tennis to packed stadiums. While not reaching the semis, quarter-finalists often play a major role in shaping the tournament narrative. Round of 16 Participants Earn £240,000 (Approx. ₹2.58 Crore) Players who make it to the Round of 16 will receive £240,000 each, translating to around ₹2.58 crore. This round is usually the turning point in the tournament where the top contenders begin to emerge and the level of competition intensifies. Third Round (R32) Entrants Paid £152,000 (Approx. ₹1.63 Crore) Those who reach the third round—also known as the Round of 32—will earn £152,000, or approximately ₹1.63 crore. For many rising stars or lower-ranked players, making it to this stage is a career milestone, and the financial reward provides further incentive to push deep into Slam draws. Second Round (R64) Finishers Get £99,000 (Approx. ₹1.06 Crore) Even players who exit in the second round are rewarded handsomely, receiving £99,000—roughly ₹1.06 crore. This prize supports a wide range of players, including journeymen and qualifiers, by helping cover costs associated with travel, coaching and equipment. First Round (R128) Participants Take Home £66,000 (Approx. ₹7.1 Lakh) All main-draw participants at Wimbledon 2025 are guaranteed a minimum payout of £66,000, or about ₹7.1 lakh. This ensures that even those who exit early receive a respectable sum for qualifying and competing on one of tennis's biggest stages.
