The first T20I between West Indies and Australia could be a one to remember for former captain Rovman Powell, as he is currently just 25 runs away from overtaking legendary Chris Gayle to become his team's second-highest run-scorer in T20Is. Following a 0-3 clean sweep loss to Aussies in the Test series, with poor batting being a major concern despite some really fiery bowling, West Indies would be aiming to make amends with the first T20I of the five-match series set to be played on Monday. Currently, Powell is his side's third-highest run-getter in T20Is, with 1,875 runs in 95 matches and 83 innings at an average of 26.40 and a strike rate of over 142. His resume boasts of a century and nine half-centuries, with his best score being 107. Gayle is at the second spot, with 1,899 runs in 79 T20Is and 75 innings, at an average of 27.92 and a strike rate of 137.50. His best score is 117, having scored two centuries and 14 fifties in a brilliant career in the shortest format of the game, which consists of two T20 World Cup title wins. At the top of the charts is now-retired Nicholas Pooran. Cricket stars confirm return to DP World ILT20 for season 4
DUBAI: For the fourth consecutive season, some of the biggest T20 superstars from around the world will feature in the DP World International League T20. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport England's ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 winners Alex Hales, Chris Woakes, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Phil Salt and Sam Curran (Season 3 Red Belt Winner — Most Valuable Player) will again display their talent in the Gulf region's biggest T20 tournament. Besides the star-studded England lineup, West Indies mega stars Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Sherfane Rutherford and Shai Hope (season three Green Belt Winner — Best Batter of the Tournament) will also return to their respective franchises. Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza and Afghanistan's premier new-ball bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi (Season 3 White Belt Winner — Best Bowler of the Tournament) will ake part in the month-long competition. Australia's big-hitting batter Tim David and New Zealand's fast bowling duo Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee have also declared their availability for Season 4. The teams have now completed the halfway stage in the squads' selection process for Season 4 (eight players each). The first phase for the squad selection included the retention window for players from Season 3 and the new signings window which finished on June 16 and 30, respectively. In the second phase of the Season 4 squad selection process, the teams will complete their respective squads at the DP World ILT20 Season 4 Player Auction, with date and details to be announced in the next few days. Defending champions Dubai Capitals have added more depth to their bowling stocks by including Season 2 White Belt Winner — Afghanistan left-arm-wrist spinner Waqar Salamkheil as a new signing (previous team MI Emirates) alongside left-arm pacers Luke Wood (previous team Desert Vipers) and Muhammad Jawadullah (previous team Sharjah Warriorz). Sri Lanka's star white-ball spinner Maheesh Theekshana returns to the side as a new signing. He had appeared in eight games for the Warriorz in Season 2 of the DP World ILT20. Warriorz have also bolstered their batting prowess for Season 4 with the inclusion of Australia's big-hitting batter Tim David as a new signing. David played for MI Emirates in Season 1 and the Gulf Giants in Season 2. USA left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar has also joined the Warriorz. ‘Concerning little time with a World Cup next year': Ian Bishop wants West Indies to reset after getting whitewashed by England in T20I series
Former West Indies player Ian Bishop said that West Indies are in dire need of a reset after the Windies went down to England in the 3rd and final T20I in the 3-match T20I series. The 37-run loss on Tuesday meant that West Indies were whitewashed by England who won the series 3-0. 'I think they will have to have a little bit of reset. Pooran has been their real star performer for the last couple of years. They haven't gone as deep even with him as they would have hoped in the last few global events. Johnson Charles at the top isn't giving them the firing power that they need and Brandon King has fallen out of form in T20Is. So they are gonna hope to sort of look to Hope, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder. I don't know if Andre Russell can re-find some health and some form,' Bishop said 'And the bowling concerns me more than anything else. It has for a while that it's not holding its own and the identity of the team is still one where they will chase to win or they need to set huge totals as England have done. England delivered its highest-ever score after 10 overs of a T20 — 135-1 — and never let up, with captain Harry Brook (35) and Jacob Bethell (36) sharing an unbroken stand of 70 in 5.1 over to help set an imposing target of 249. The Windies never really got close on a good batting track though still made a commendable 211-8 after slipping to 70-4 after 7.1 overs. Rovman Powell was the top scorer for the tourists with an unbeaten 79 off 45 balls, and captain Shai Hope had a 27-ball 45.

England beat West Indies by 37 runs to secure T20 series sweep
SOUTHAMPTON, Britain: Ben Duckett blasted a whirlwind 84 from 46 balls as England posted their second highest T20 International score of 248 for three before restricting West Indies to 211 for eight to win by 37 runs and sweep the three-game series on Tuesday. West Indies elected to bowl but could not find consistency in line and length on a flat batting wicket and were carted around the Rose Bowl as England smashed 15 sixes in the innings on the way to their imposing score. Opener Jamie Smith contributed 60 from 26 balls for his first T20 international half-century as England reached 135-1 at the midway point of their innings, their highest 10-over score. West Indies were always struggling in their chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals but their total was boosted by a fine unbeaten 79 from 45 balls by Rovman Powell before they ran out of deliveries. The match aggregate of 459 runs is the highest in a T20 international in England, as the home side added win to their sweep of the three-game One-Day International series, a perfect start for new white ball captain Harry Brook. 'Very pleased, the lads put a really good shift in and played some exceptional cricket,' Brook told Sky Sports. 'I like the depth in the batting, it gives the lads at the top the license to get us off to a fast start and we saw that tonight.' Openers Smith and Duckett put on 120 in 63 deliveries for the first wicket. No line or length was safe as the pair used invention and daring to move around the crease and find boundaries at will. Duckett raced to his highest T20 international score but was bowled around his legs by Akeal Hosein. Brook (35 not out from 22 balls) and Barbados-born Jacob Bethell (36 from 16 balls) added 70 in the final 31 deliveries of the innings to take England to their massive score. The 25 dot balls that West Indies bowled are the fewest England have faced in a completed innings. West Indies never looked like getting close to their target despite an enterprising 45 from 27 balls by captain Shai Hope, until Powell came in at number six and gave them a late boost. England seamer Luke Wood was the pick on a difficult night for the bowlers with 3-31 in his four overs. 'We have not grasped those crucial moments in the game, whether it is with bat or ball. We have not managed to put that complete game together in this series. We have to improve everywhere,' West Indies captain Shai Hope said.
