Formula E: Porsche and Nissan locked in intense battle for Team Championship
Image credit: Formula E Oliver Rowland of Nissan may be well ahead of Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche in terms of points, but their teams are currently locked in a neck-and-neck battle. Rowland has 171 points, while Wehrlein has 103 points in the Drivers' Standings. The Porsche driver will need a major turnaround — and hope the results start going in his favour — to catch up with the top-placed Rowland. Porsche vs Nissan: Neck-and-neck in Formula E Team Standings However, the situation is quite different in the Team Standings. Porsche are on top with 191 points, while Nissan are just one point behind with 190. This close competition has added an extra layer of excitement to the championship. Formula E's official social media handle shared a special post highlighting the tight battle between the two teams: 'The top is getting busy. @PorscheFormulaE and @NISMO battling it out for the Team Championship @Hankook_Sport #ShanghaiEPrix,' Formula E's handle posted. How points system works for Formula E teams Every team has two drivers. It depends on the positions the two drivers of the same team capture. The points of the two drivers combined in a race are considered as team points, and that's how team standings come into the picture. The race winner or the first-position driver gets 25 points, the second-placed gets 18 points, third-placed gets 15 points, fourth-placed gets 12 points, fifth-placed gets 10 points, sixth-placed gets 8 points, seventh-placed gets 6 points, eighth-placed gets 4 points, ninth-placed gets 2 points, and 10th-placed gets 1 point. Example: If a team's two drivers finish 3rd and 7th, they will earn 15 + 6 = 21 points for that race. The Formula E points system 1st: 25 Pts 2nd: 18 Pts 3rd: 15 Pts 4th: 12 Pts 5th: 10 Pts 6th: 8 Pts 7th: 6 Pts 8th: 4 Pts 9th: 2 Pts 10th: 1 Pt For Porsche, Wehrlein has clinched 103 points, while his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa has 88 points. For Nissan, Rowland has 171 points, but his teammate Norman Nato's poor show this season has cost the team dearly. Nato has just 19 points to his name. It's Rowland's sheer dominance this season that has kept his team in the Team Championship race. For ELLE UK and Fendi's Celebration Of Women In Music last night, Rowland looked every inch the icon in a deep chocolate, cinched waist skirt suit by Fendi. On her look for ELLE UK x Fendi celebration of women in music event... 'How do I feel in this look? Like a lady. I love the rich chocolate colour and the mix of textures. Fendi always play with texture, like with this silk on the skirt. I added a ring over the glove because I love touches of gold – the earrings too – they really pull the brown out. It's sexy and feminine, but with an edge. It's buttoned up, but the silhouette is so strong. To me, seeing a woman's silhouette is a kind of power. My glam team really helped pull it all together. Rio Sreedharan is so creative with hair, and my makeup artist tonight, Esther Edeme, has this way of making the skin look airbrushed. It's one of the things that drew me to her– we met in the DMs!' On her summer of 'nautical dressing'... 'I'm leaning a little nautical this year. I love what Sofia Richie Grainge did with her Tommy Hilfiger capsule collection, these classic pieces and cute t-shirts. I'll be wearing a lot of button ups this summer, a lot of linens, because I can actually take those from beach to really chic. I do a lot of bell bottom jeans because I like the fact that you can get some air in them.' On embracing vintage fashion… 'In my wardrobe I have an old pair of really messed up Dolce jeans, which came with matching boots. I can't fit into the jeans anymore, but the boots I still treasure. I have this really beautiful green Valentino kaftan, a Carolina Herrera blush dress and a vintage Versace bustier that I love. And, oh my God, this Alaïa bustier that made for me himself in his workshop. I also still have the dress from the Destiny's Child Independent Women video! I'm having so much fun vintage shopping at the moment. While I was shooting my upcoming film, Relationship Goals in Canada, I found this Toteme top that's almost see through. The fabric is so beautiful and light. I'm finding a lot of things that were really fly at the time, and making them circle back.' …And stepping away from trends 'In my 20s I always followed trends, in my 30s I asked myself, who am I trying to keep up with? I wanted to wear pieces that are classic and timeless. I remember going through my closet going, 'this is too trendy, I hate this, I don't need this'. Remember f*cking low waisted jeans? It served its time, and now here I am, a mother of two, and I love high waisted jeans. I also want to responsible, I don't want to keep buying new. I love Margiela Tabis, they will always be fly. I recently found these white Phoebe Philo for Celine vintage kitten heels at the consignment store. Again I thought, these are fly, these will always be fly. It's forever, it's how you wear it.' On her creativity and inspiration... 'I'm inspired by women every single day. Right now I'm reading Nikki Giovanni's Love Poems, and watching Forever on Netflix. Mara Brock Akil adapted the story from the Judy Blume book. It's about teenage love and it's so beautiful because it's done from the Black perspective. I watched an interview from Mara Brock Akil recently, she has two Black boys and she was talking about how she was inspired by her children. The whole series just blows your freaking mind. It gave me butterflies, it made me cry. I really saw myself in the mother and the young girl in love; all the characters just jump off the screen.' Who is Oliver Rowland? All you need to know about the unstoppable Formula E champion
Oliver Rowland has been in sensational form this season — and the stats speak for themselves. He has four wins and seven podiums in total this season. That's how the 32-year-old has stamped his authority on the 2024–25 Formula E season. All about Oliver Rowland Oliver Rowland is a British Formula E driver born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. His passion for motorsport ignited early — he began karting at the age of seven. Rowland quickly made his mark, finishing second in the Super 1 National Cadet Championship in 2002 and later winning the championship for two consecutive years. In 2010, Rowland transitioned from karting to single-seaters, competing in the Formula Renault UK Winter Series with CRS Racing. After a slow start, he claimed his maiden win in the final race of the championship at Pembrey. Rowland's big breakthrough came in 2011 when he joined Fortec Motorsport and competed in the British Championship. He quickly impressed, securing his first podium of the season followed by four consecutive podium finishes. He also won the Graduate Cup. In 2013, he signed with Fortec Motorsport again, this time competing in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. It was a strong season, as he finished fourth overall with two wins and seven podiums. Rowland stepped up to GP2 in 2015, making his debut at Silverstone with MP Motorsport. He made an immediate impact by scoring points in both races. That year, he earned his first pole position at the Sanya ePrix and finished second in the race — his maiden podium in Formula E.
