Malaysian fined over illegal cigarette possession at Sg Tujoh checkpoint in Brunei
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A Malaysian man was slapped with a BND16,312 fine by the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Belait on Thursday (July 3) after he was caught attempting to bring in illegal cigarettes into the country.
Kho Wei Hong, 32, would have to serve a 13-month jail term in default of payment.
Magistrate Syaffina Shahif heard that Kho was intercepted by Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) officers at the arrival section of the Sungai Tujoh Control Post at 8.24am on July 1, 2025, where an inspection uncovered 19 cartons, 13 packets, and 17 sticks of various cigarette brands in his possession.
All contraband cigarettes were forfeited for government disposal. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
