RFC – Jordan extends submission deadline for 20th Rawi Screenwriters Lab
Rawi works with a diverse group of Creative Advisors and selection committee members from the Arab region and beyond. The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) has extended the submission deadline for the 20th edition of its Rawi Screenwriters Lab. Arab screenwriters now have until midnight on Saturday, June 14, 2025 (Jordan Time) to submit their entries for this milestone edition of the Lab, which will be held from November 20 to 26, 2025, in Wadi Feynan, Jordan. Launched in 2005 in collaboration with the Sundance Institute, the Rawi Screenwriters Lab has evolved into one of the Arab world's most respected script development programmes. The name 'Rawi,' meaning both 'storyteller' and 'water bearer' in Arabic, encapsulates the Lab's mission to cultivate and nourish Arab voices in cinema. Over the past two decades, the Lab has supported more than 150 emerging screenwriters, many of whom have become influential voices in contemporary Arab film. Held annually in a retreat-style setting, the Lab provides eight selected Fellows with an immersive creative environment. Each participant is paired with four acclaimed Creative Advisors—renowned Arab or international screenwriters and editors—for intensive one-on-one sessions. The experience also includes informal discussions and group exchanges, fostering a strong sense of community and artistic collaboration. For the 20th edition, the Lab draws inspiration from Daucus Carota, a resilient wild Jordanian plant, symbolising strength and creative growth. In this spirit, Rawi continues to provide space, guidance and mentorship to screenwriters who are ready to evolve their craft and share their stories with the world. The programme is open to Arab screenwriters working on their first or second feature-length narrative screenplay. Eligible applicants may apply as independent screenwriters, writer-directors, or co-writers. Submissions must include a completed screenplay (minimum 60 pages), a logline, a synopsis, a filmmaker's statement, a biography, and links to previous work. While screenplays may initially be submitted in Arabic, selected projects must later provide an English translation. All other application materials must be submitted in English to ensure equal evaluation by an international committee. Applications must be submitted through the official online form. Results will be announced by August 1, 2025.

Jordan Boosts Film, TV Production Cash Rebate to Up to 45 Percent
Jordan has unveiled an 'enhanced financial incentives program' for film and TV productions early on Wednesday during the Cannes Film Festival. The Royal Film Commission – Jordan said its new cash rebate will cover 25-45 percent of the in-country spend for qualifying film and TV projects, compared to the 25 percent cap so far. The exact percentage is determined by 'a points-based system assessing the project's size, incorporation of Jordanian cultural content, and its artistic, cultural, and economic value,' it said. In addition, 'for local productions, the rebate has been raised from 10 percent to 30 percent for projects with spending over $500,000 – part of a broader effort to empower Jordanian producers and stimulate the domestic production industry,' the commission said. Existing additional financial savings on the likes of sales tax and customs duty also remain in place. 'The enhanced incentive aims to maintain Jordan's position as a key player and strong competitor in the regional and global production landscape, building on its diverse filming locations, skilled workforce, and advanced infrastructure,' the film commission explained. 'The updated rebate scheme is also expected to further drive film tourism by showcasing Jordanian locations in international productions, while strengthening technical infrastructure and encouraging the inclusion of Jordanian cultural heritage in global storytelling.' Jordan has hosted such major international productions as The Martian, Aladdin, Dune: Part One and its sequel, and John Wick, with Wadi Rum and Petra serving as key backdrops. RFC – Jordan opens applications for second edition of Arab Producers Lab
The Lab will be held in Jordan in September 2025. Exact dates will be announced later. The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC), in collaboration with European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE), has launched the second edition of the Arab Producers Lab (APL), with applications now open until April 26, 2025. The programme is designed for Arab producers and directors or writers working on their first or second narrative feature film, offering an intensive five-day immersive workshop focused on both the creative and business sides of filmmaking. The Arab Producers Lab is a comprehensive training initiative that aims to empower emerging Arab filmmakers by equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of international film production, finance and distribution. With a strong focus on storytelling and production, the Lab invites teams of producers and directors/writers to develop their projects through hands-on mentorship, expert-led sessions, and targeted industry insights. Participants will benefit from personalised one-on-one consultations as well as group discussions led by internationally renowned professionals in producing and screenwriting. The workshop addresses key areas such as screenplay development, project packaging and financing, co-production strategies, market access, sales and distribution, legal frameworks and the evolving digital and VOD landscape. The Lab will welcome six to eight producer-director/writer teams developing feature-length narrative films. Selected participants will engage in sessions that not only help sharpen their scripts but also enhance their understanding of international market dynamics. Topics will cover audience targeting, funding opportunities, partnership strategies, legal rights management and long-term sustainability in film production. Tutors for this year's edition include prominent industry figures such as Rula Nasser (The Imaginarium Films, Jordan), Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine (Scale & Scope, France), Nayeem Mahbub (Kahini, Sweden/Bangladesh) and Hédi Zardi (France). Their expertise will support participants in navigating both regional and global film industries while preparing their projects for potential co-productions and festival circuits. The Arab Producers Lab also emphasises the importance of building networks and fostering collaboration among Arab creatives, offering a platform that bridges local stories with global markets. By nurturing talent and promoting strategic development, the initiative seeks to help participants elevate their projects and amplify their voices in an increasingly competitive industry. Submissions for the second edition of the Arab Producers Lab are due by Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 23:59 Jordan Time.
