TN ATS nabs 2 most wanted terror suspects in Annamayya district

Tirupati: After nearly three decades on the run, two of Tamil Nadu's most wanted terror suspects, Abubacker Siddique and Mohammed Ali were finally arrested on Tuesday by the state's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from a remote hideout in Annamayya district. Siddique, a trained explosives expert, had been absconding since 1995, while Ali had been evading arrest for 26 years. Both carried a reward of Rs.5 lakh on their heads. Siddique, originally from Nagore, has been linked to a series of terror attacks that have rocked Tamil Nadu and nearby states since the mid-1990s. Among the earliest and most notorious cases was the 1995 bomb blast at the Hindu Munnani office in Chennai's Chintadripet area. That same year, he was allegedly responsible for sending a parcel bomb in Nagore, which claimed the life of Hindu activist T Muthukrishnan. One of the most serious charges against him is his alleged role in the 1999 coordinated bombing attempt that targeted seven different locations. These included the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office in Egmore, public spaces in Trichy and Coimbatore, and a site in Kerala. Authorities also believe Siddique attempted to assassinate senior BJP leader LK Advani in 2011 by planting a pipe bomb during his Rath Yatra in Madurai. Additionally, he is accused in the 2012 murder of Dr Arvind Reddy in Vellore and the 2013 bombing near the BJP office in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Mohammed Ali, also known by the aliases Yunus and Mansoor, is from Melapalayam in Tirunelveli. He is primarily wanted for his alleged role in the 1999 serial bomb planting case, which spanned locations across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Like Siddique, Ali had been living under false identities and frequently changed his whereabouts to stay off the grid and avoid arrest. Siddique is also believed to have mentored several radicalised operatives over the years, including Bilal Malik, 'Police' Fakruddin, and Panna Ismail, all of whom are currently in custody in connection with various terror-related cases. Their arrests were made possible through a meticulous intelligence operation conducted by Tamil Nadu ATS in coordination with law enforcement agencies in Andhra Pradesh. According to a statement issued by Tamil Nadu Police, both Siddique and Ali will be produced before a judicial magistrate for remand. The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities aiming to dismantle the wider network the duo was connected to.

NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of Kuppam woman's public assault

TIRUPATI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a shocking incident in Narayanapuram village of Kuppam mandal, Chittoor district, where a woman was tied to a tree and assaulted in front of her son over an unpaid loan. The commission described the act as a serious violation of human rights and issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The NHRC also acknowledged the formal complaint submitted by Tirupati MP M Gurumoorthy and said it has been clubbed with the suo motu case. The Commission warned that it is the state government's responsibility to ensure that such inhuman acts are not repeated and emphasised the need for accountability and preventive measures. The incident, which took place on June 16, involved a woman named Sirisha, whose husband had reportedly absconded after taking a loan, leaving behind his wife and three children. In his absence, the creditors allegedly tied Sirisha to a tree and beat her in front of her minor son, triggering widespread outrage.V The case drew immediate attention from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who represents the Kuppam constituency in the State Assembly. He condemned the incident and directed officials to take stringent action. The police arrested those involved and booked them under multiple sections of the BNS. In response to the incident, the State Government has announced a financial assistance package for the victim. Sirisha was granted Rs.5 lakh in aid, and the government has pledged to take responsibility for her children's education. Additionally, she will be allotted 50 cents of land within Kuppam municipality limits to help her rebuild her life.

India increasingly experiencing BJP's development model: PM Modi

Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the country has increasingly 'experienced the BJP's development model", pointing to the recent trajectories of Assam, Tripura and, most recently, Odisha. Addressing a rally marking the first anniversary of Odisha's BJP government, the Prime Minister contrasted the 'previous regime's model of governance—marked by delay, obstruction, derailment and corruption' with what he called a decade of 'good governance that makes people's lives easier". Highlighting the Eastern India as a case study, Modi said a decade ago Assam was mired in instability, separatism and violence. "Today the guns have fallen silent and Assam is out‑pacing many other states on several parameters,' he said. In Tripura ,the Prime Minister said after decades of Left rule, Tripura 'lagged on every development indicator,' from crumbling infrastructure to unresponsive administration. Now, Modi argued, it has become 'a symbol of peace and progress.' Coming to Odisha , he said, it had long wrestled with widespread corruption, red‑tapism and poor infrastructure, leaving many regions behind. 'Over the past year we have worked with full resolve to change that reality,' he declared. Modi credited the union‑and‑state 'double engine' approach for a spate of projects worth 'thousands of crores' inaugurated on Friday. This model, he said, is delivering twin benefits: He said lakhs of poor families in Odisha previously excluded from Ayushman Bharat now receive coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana and Odisha's Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana. Nearly three crore Odias are eligible for cash‑free treatment—inside and outside the state—and more than two lakh patients have already availed themselves of the scheme in hospitals across a dozen states. Under Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, over 23 lakh senior citizens (70+) in Odisha can claim up to Rs.5 lakh in free medical care, significantly easing household health costs. Modi said the farmers in Odisha now receive combined assistance under PM‑KISAN and the state's complementary schemes. The higher paddy procurement prices, promised last year, have already benefited lakhs of cultivators, Modi said. The Prime Minister lamented that tribal communities had been kept 'in poverty and deprivation for decades' and 'used for political gain' by earlier governments, which in turn fueled Naxalism. 'Our model brings development to these regions instead of driving them toward violence and oppression,' he asserted. UNI DP RN

Odisha: BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi to build coaching institutes with

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi will be building coaching institutes, which double as a library and reading centre in Odisha's Khorda district will be funded through a newly devised 'convergence model' for proper utilisation of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division (MPLAD) funds. Sarangi said that she will also be teaching at these institutes on a volunteer basis. Under the convergence model devised with the Khordha District Collector, half or more of the funds needed for development projects will be provided through MPLAD, and the other half will come from various central and state government schemes. 'I have devised a convergence model to properly utilise MPLADs (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division) funds. We have decided to build a coaching institute that doubles as a library and reading centre, each in the eight blocks under my constituency. Each will cost Rs 53 lakh. Rs 30 lakh have been contributed through MPLADs by me. The remaining Rs 23 lakh will come from four different central and state government schemes, contributed by the DC,' Sarangi told ANI on Wednesday. The BJP MP has also said that she wants to build libraries in each of the 156 Panchayats in her constituency, with half of the cost being given through MPLAD and the other half funded through schemes. 'Additionally, we want a library worth Rs 10 lakh in each of the 156 Panchayats under my constituency... I would contribute Rs 5 lakh, and the DC will contribute the remaining Rs 5 lakh from different schemes... The local youth organisations or senior citizens welfare organisations will manage these libraries... All of this will be free of cost... Once this project is successful, we will document it properly. It should be a model at the national level,' she said. Under the MPLAD schemes, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency. Notably, the Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament can recommend works in one or more districts in the State from where he/she has been elected. (ANI)
