MahaMetro To Appoint Expert Consultant To Fix Faulty Sadar Flyover Landing
Nagpur: Over a month after Union minister Nitin Gadkari admitted a design flaw in the Sadar flyover landing, and announced rectification plans, MahaMetro has finally been entrusted with the task of fixing the issue. Sources in MahaMetro revealed to TOI that the agency will soon appoint a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) to prepare a comprehensive correction plan for the problematic landing. The appointment of a DDC marks the first official step toward resolving the persistent traffic bottleneck that has troubled commuters since the flyover's inauguration. Now, with MahaMetro officially taking charge, the process is moving forward. "Once the DDC is appointed, detailed discussions and planning will be undertaken to finalise the rectification measures. Execution will follow the final approval of the revised plan," a MahaMetro official told TOI. The 3.96-km long Y-shaped flyover, built at a cost of Rs219 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), was opened to the public in January 2020. It starts near Samvidhan Square and branches out toward Katol Road and Koradi Road, aiming to ease congestion in the Sadar area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo However, the landing near Kasturchand Park on the busy Wardha Road has proven to be a serious design flaw. Due to the narrow landing and lack of proper traffic dispersion space, authorities were forced to shut the crucial stretch between Samvidhan Square and LIC Square. This rerouting has created significant inconvenience for motorists. Commuters travelling from Samvidhan Square toward Kamptee flyover are now forced to detour via Sadar, make a U-turn near NIT, and then proceed to LIC Square before heading to Kamptee Road. Additionally, traffic descending from the flyover and traffic coming from LIC Square towards Samvidhan Square clash near Kasturchand Park Metro Station, worsening congestion and increasing the risk of accidents. Gadkari last month acknowledged the flaw during a press conference and stated that a Rs34 crore proposal had been submitted to correct the landing design and ensure smoother traffic movement. While the appointment of a consultant brings hope for resolution, the actual rectification could take several months. Until then, motorists will have to continue dealing with the long detours and daily congestion caused by the flawed design.

No official word yet, Metro likely to fix faulty Sadar flyover landing
1 2 Nagpur: A month after Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari admitted to Sadar flyover's faulty landing design and assured rectification, no govt agency has officially been assigned the task. While sources have confirmed that MahaMetro will carry out the rectification, the agency is yet to receive an official contract to begin the work. Built at a cost of Rs219 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the 3.96-km Y-shaped flyover was inaugurated in January 2020 with the aim of easing traffic congestion in Sadar and adjoining areas. It connects Samvidhan Square to Katol road and Koradi road. However, the flyover's landing near Kasturchand Park on Kamptee road created a major traffic bottleneck that has led to persistent jams. To regulate traffic descending from the flyover, authorities were forced to shut the crucial Samvidhan square-LIC square stretch. As a result, motorists heading from Samvidhan square to the Kamptee flyover are now forced to take a detour via Sadar, make a U-turn towards NIT, then proceed through LIC square to reach Kamptee road. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo TOI has repeatedly reported on the flawed design of the flyover's landing and the resultant traffic chaos. Last month, Gadkari acknowledged the issue at a press conference and announced that Rs34 crore was proposed to fix the design and streamline traffic movement. Initial enquiries with NHAI revealed that it would not undertake the repairs. "The work will be carried out by PWD since it falls under the Central Road Fund (CRF)," an NHAI official said. However, PWD officials later confirmed that MahaMetro would execute the project. A senior MahaMetro official also confirmed the agency's involvement. "We have been informed that MahaMetro will be given the task. However, we are still awaiting the design-build contract (DBC) from the PWD. Once we receive it, we will begin the work," the official said. The lack of clarity and delay in assigning the rectification work — despite a ministerial assurance and the urgency of the issue — has raised questions over coordination among govt agencies. Meanwhile, thousands of daily commuters continue to bear the brunt of a flawed design awaiting a long-overdue fix.

CBI arrests railway engineer and trackman in bribery case
1 2 Lucknow: The CBI on Saturday arrested two railway officials — an assistant divisional engineer and a trackman — of Northern Railway, Chandausi, Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 34,000 from a railway contractor. The arrests followed the registration of a case by the CBI on July 4 based on a complaint against the assistant divisional engineer Sanjeev Saxena for soliciting an illegal gratification of 2% commission on the clearance of pending bills worth Rs17,57,605. The complainant, a private contractor, was awarded a tender for railway track fitting work on Jan 19, 2024, by the Moradabad Division of NR. According to the complaint, Saxena demanded Rs34,000 to facilitate clearance of outstanding dues. Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap and caught both Sanjeev Saxena and his subordinate, Akash, a trackman, while accepting the bribe during the night of July 4.
