The Predibase acquisition is significant for Rubrik shareholders since it's a strategic leap into enterprise AI that effectively positions RBRK as more than just a data backup company. Integrating Predibase's fine-tuning and inference tools will position RBRK to help clients deploy cost-efficient, production-ready artificial intelligence models using their own data – which directly addresses a major enterprise pain point: moving AI from prototype to production. Sailing: German startup Kadmos, which had raised $38 million in external capital for its salary payment platform for seafaring workers, got acquired by NYK Line as part of the Japanese shipping firm's efforts to expand its fintech services. Red herring? Embattled AI music startup Suno announced the acquisition of WavTool, a browser-based AI digital audio workstation, in a deal that actually happened a few months ago but that it chose to disclose on the heels of yet another copyright lawsuit. Unstable ground: Getty Images dropped its primary lawsuit against Stability AI, the startup behind AI image generator Stable Diffusion, but other lawsuits continue, both in the U.S. and in the U.K. Weathering the storm: Despite headwinds, Bill Gates-backed startup Airloom Energy is pressing on and started building its first wind power plant in Wyoming. Another week, another $300 million round — sometimes at wildly different valuations, even for the same company. Meanwhile, the small deals keep things interesting, too. Same amount, new valuation: Harvey AI raised a $300 million Series E co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Coatue. This comes only four months after Sequoia led a $300 million Series D at a $3 billion valuation into the AI-enabled legal tech startup, which is now valued at $5 billion. AI scribe: Abridge, an AI startup automating medical notes, secured a $300 million Series E led by a16z at a $5.3 billion valuation. Crypto predictions: Blockchain-based prediction market platform Kalshi raised a $185 million round at a $2 billion post-money valuation, while rival Polymarket is reportedly working on closing a $200 million round at a pre-money valuation around $1 billion. Money in the bank: Finom, a challenger bank that targets SMBs across Europe, raised some $133 million in a Series C round of funding that comes in addition to the $105 million in growth funding it secured from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund a few weeks ago. Flying high: Indian drone startup Raphe mPhibr raised $100 million in an all-equity Series B round led by General Catalyst. Its customers include the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as armed police forces. Easy dictation: AI-powered dictation app Wispr Flow locked in $30 million in a Series A that brought its total funding to $56 million. The company also released an iOS app earlier this month. Upcycled: Novoloop, a startup that upcycles waste plastic, raised a $21 million Series B to finalize the design and begin the construction of its first commercial-scale plant. Data processing for AI: Eventual, a startup inspired by a data-processing problem its founders encountered at Lyft, raised two rounds of funding totaling $27.5 million within eight months. AI voices: Synthflow AI, a Berlin-based no-code platform that lets enterprises build and deploy customized white-label voice AI customer service agents, raised a $20 million Series A led by Accel. As the name suggests: Better Auth, the third Ethiopian startup to graduate from YC, raised $5 million in seed funding. Its open source framework promises to simplify how developers manage user authentication and has quickly become popular. Eternal light: Space startup Lux Aeterna came out of stealth with $4 million in pre-seed funding and the ambition to launch a reusable satellite in 2027. Rubrik: A strategic acquisition of Predibase
Rubrik specialises in cybersecurity, cloud backup, ransomware protection, and data management. It boasts more than $1bn in annualised revenue. This acquisition is set to operationalise AI at scale, addressing common barriers such as cost, complexity, and governance in deploying LLM-based agents into production. It will also enhance and fortify cloud ecosystems in collaboration with AWS, Azure, and Google's AI stacks. Furthermore, it will enable Rubrik to offer AI-enhanced services to its extensive enterprise customer base of more than 6,000. The deal is in line with recent mergers and acquisitions activity in the AI space. Rubrik is positioning itself among vendors that provide secure, agent-driven AI deployment at an enterprise level. Rubrik to buy Predibase to enhance agentic AI adoption
Rubrik, a cybersecurity company, has announced its agreement to acquire Predibase, aiming to accelerate the adoption of agentic AI. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. However, sources told CNBC that Rubrik 'intends to pay between $100m and $500m' for Predibase. With the deal, Rubrik and Predibase hope to deliver simplified models and data, resulting in improved accuracy, reduced costs, enhanced performance, and automated data governance. Predibase, founded in 2021 by AI technologists from Google and Uber, offers a platform that fine-tunes open-source models into production-ready solutions. The platform features a proprietary post-training stack for model customisation and an optimised inference engine. It includes a turbo serving engine for over two times performance gains and LoRA eXchange, an open-source system for deploying personalised models at scale. Rubrik CEO, chairman and co-founder Bipul Sinha said: 'What the Predibase team has achieved with model training and serving infrastructure in the last few years is nothing short of remarkable. AI engineers and developers across the industry trust their expertise. 'Together, Rubrik and Predibase will drive agentic AI adoption around the world and unlock immediate value for our customers.' Predibase co-founder and CEO Devvret Rishi said: 'We created Predibase to lift the barriers between an idea and production-ready AI. Today, many organisations still face challenges moving beyond the proof-of-concept stage. 'Predibase removes the hardest part of that journey and accelerates production-ready AI by giving teams an easy-to-use platform to tune models to their own data and run on an optimised inference stack. This unlocks more accurate results and faster models, all at lower cost.' The San Francisco-based startup has a team of 25 employees. It secured more than $28m from venture firms Felicis and Greylock Partners, with clients such as Checkr, Marsh McLennan, and Qualcomm. Integrating Predibase is anticipated to expand Rubrik's work in securing and deploying GenAI applications, currently in collaboration with Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and Google Agentspace. Rubrik said it is relied upon by organisations globally to address challenges, including accessing the right data, managing security, and optimising cost and performance. The combination of Predibase and Rubrik will provide optimised, fine-tuned, cost-effective models with governed data to help customers securely deploy agentic AI.
