I saw singer Diana Ross perform live in Glasgow's Hydro
Music icon. Legendary artist. Superstar. All terms we throw around too easily. But there is one woman who is all of those things and more - and it's Diana Ross. Looking stunning in a ball gown, the Detroit-born star kicked off her Hydro show on Wednesday night with the Nile Rodgers-produced smash I'm Coming Out - and what a way to arrive on stage. (Image: Image of Diana Ross) The magic of Motown was then brought to Glasgow as Ms Ross gave the city the best of The Supremes. Baby Love, You Can't Hurry Love, Come See About Me, and Stop! In The Name of Love exploded out of that Motown vault and sounded magical thanks to the live orchestra on stage. Ensuring she sounded on top form alongside the big band, the 81-year-old admitted: 'I've been struggling every night with this in-ear things.' But the audience certainly didn't notice as they heaped admiration on the singer who sounded incredible. And after a quick wardrobe change - c'mon, it's expected, it's Diana Ross - the star showcased a new look for the 1979 disco hit The Boss and Endless Love, a duet she released with Lionel Ritchie. It's special watching an artist of this calibre perform. Motown was a moment in music history. It was a one off and has never been replicated in the same way. And alongside Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Ms Ross was part of that sound. Seeing her bring that iconic movement alive again was just special. (Image: Image of Diana Ross) A duet with her daughter Rhonda then surprised the audience as the pair performed Count On Me together, which was also written by her eldest child. A third costume change paved the way for Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To?) and Ain't No Mountain High Enough. The singer then paid tribute to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra saying: 'I want to thank this wonderful, magnificent orchestra.' She added, 'I am so happy to be here with you. I love it when the house lights are up so I can see your faces.' The Gloria Gaynor hit I Will Survive rounded off the evening with a masterclass in musicianship as each backing singer and musician showcased their talent. Showing vulnerability, the star signed off, while signing autographs from the stage, 'I just want to tell you how much I love you. I love doing what I'm doing. 'Being 81, being with you is good for me mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.'

I saw Rumours of Fleetwood Mac live in Glasgow
Every music fan has a soft spot for Fleetwood Mac - and with good reason. The legendary band's back catalogue is packed with some of the greatest songs of all time - and those tracks were celebrated in spectacular style by Rumours of Fleetwood Mac during their tribute at the Royal Concert Hall tonight. Opening up with a quick video message from the main man himself, Mick Fleetwood, the band were given his seal of approval before they kicked off the show with Gypsy. (Image: Rumours of Fleetwood Mac. Picture by Matt Ford.) Keyboardist Sophie Worsley, who took on the late Christine McVie's vocals, then promised: 'Tonight we are going to celebrate six decades of music from arguably the best pop rock band of all time.' And there were no arguments from the audience as she then launched into the funky You Make Loving Fun. Bandmate Jess Harwood then transported the crowd into the world of Stevie Nicks, capturing her vocals beautifully on Sara before Worsley gave fans a moment to remember with her rendition of the ballad Songbird. The Chain, of course, amped up the atmosphere with the crowd erupting into a cheer for its famous instrumental rift. It's a masterpiece live; there is nothing else quite like it. Equally impressive was James Harrison's vocals on the hit, with him easily mimicking the rockier tones in Lindsey Buckingham's voice. Then more of a British Blues band, this era was responsible for the 1968 hit Albatross which sounded magnificent live. The night was a complete celebration of Fleetwood Mac with each musician capturing the heart of the music. Their musicianship, individual vocals, and harmonies created a magic on stage that was originally the catalyst for Fleetwood Mac's success, and it was wonderful to watch. Harwood even gave her Rumours bandmate Harrison that famous on-stage stare down for the climax of the song. Then the party really got started as the band belted out hit after hit, including Tell Me Lies, Nicks' solo effort Edge of Seventeen and Everywhere. While Go Your Own Way, Don't Stop, Dreams, and Tusk rounded off an incredible show before Harrison signed off: 'You're such a great city, you always deliver.' Although the chances of a Fleetwood Mac reunion today remain slim, their music lives on through Rumours, and what a wonderful legacy they celebrate.

Fleetwood Mac tribute act coming to Glasgow this summer
"The Royal Concert Hall is great for us, we love it there," Allan Cosgrove, drummer for Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, said. He added: "Glasgow always supports us. It's so great performing in the city." (Image: Picture credit: Matt Ford) Lucky for Allan and the rest of the group - which consists of James Harrison (lead guitars/vocals), Sophie Worsley (keyboards/lead vocals), Jess Harwood (lead vocals), Etienne Girard (Bass Guitar), Henry Ruben Burnett (Keyboard and lead lead vocals) and Scott Poley (Guitars) - Rumours of Fleetwood Mac will be performing at the city centre venue on Monday, June 23. But it is not just the venue that has Liverpool's Allan buzzing for the Glasgow show. He explained: "Glaswegian and scousers are the same people. We're very similar and won't take any mess from anyone. We're salt of the earth and give you our last buck. 'Glasgow and Liverpool have similar spirits." (Image: Picture credit: Matt Ford) The show will cover a vast range of Fleetwood Mac's discography including their primary blues sound, Christine McVie pop tunes and Stevie Nicks' rock and roll hits, and will deliver a pretty immaculate replication of Fleetwood Mac's sound, according to Allan. He said: "It sounds a bit sterile, but it was important for me that Rumours of Fleetwood Mac played the songs note-for-note. 'We tip our hat to Fleetwood Mac's style and dress accordingly, we understand the task at hand and that the music we're playing is precious to people." He continued: 'This isn't about us coming out in wigs and stick-on ponytails and playing what we think it should sound like. The legacy is already there. We're the conjurers and we've got to have a great understanding and love of it, but it's their music. The standing ovations are for their songs. "I knew that we had to capture the sound and the imagination of a Fleetwood Mac fan, otherwise, I wouldn't do it because I love that band." "That album was like listening to something from another planet," Allan said. He continued: "The album started playing and I thought, 'Wow, what's this?' 'That was when I fell in love with Fleetwood Mac and became a fan. I started following their career then." (Image: Picture credit: Matt Ford) Audiences can also expect a video from Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac's original drummer and founder) at the start of the show, wishing attendees a good night. It comes after Mick struck up a great relationship with both Allan and the group, after he came to watch Rumours of Fleetwood Mac perform with his mum, Bridget Maureen Brereton Fleetwood. It all started years ago, when Bridget rocked up to the group's Salisbury show. Allan detailed: "Before we went on stage that night, our tour manager said there was a lady at the stage door who wanted to speak to me. She came to the dressing room and said, 'Hi darling, I'm Bridget Fleetwood, Michael's mum. 'She said, 'I've come to check you out.' She watched it and afterwards said, 'Darling, that was a jolly good go at Fleetwood Mac, I must bring Mick to see this.' And I said, 'No, you don't need to do that.' 'Every year she came to see us and about five years after that first time meeting her, I would call her and say we would pick her up and bring her to the theatre but one year she said that there was no need because 'He's just putting his shirt on'. I said, 'Who is putting his shirt on?' and she said 'Mick'. 'He was over for a book signing and came by the show. That night, he played drums in the show and I played maracas behind him. It was mental. It's been a hell of a road so far." READ NEXT: Irish indie rock band announce Glasgow show as part of UK tour The tribute act is now performing all over the world.
