Doctor Who showrunner admits 'I don't know what's happening' over series' future
As Ncuti Gatwa's second season as The Doctor came to a close in an exciting two-part finale, a showrunner has cast more uncertainty on the future of the beloved show. The latest series saw The Doctor become trapped in a dystopian world which is controlled by the Time Lady and the future is left up in the air. Doctor Who usually returns to the TV, no matter the amount of time between series, however, rumours about the show have cast doubt on whether it will return for season 16, as a showrunner said they 'don't know' the future of the show yet. Both the BBC and Disney will have a say in the show's future as they made a deal which allows the show to be available on the streaming platform Disney+, making it available internationally. Russell T Davies for Doctor Who Magazine recently shared: 'We don't know what's happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I'll take a pause on this page… Hopefully, we'll have news soon'. Disney is labelling season 16 as season three online, with a BBC spokesperson saying: 'As we have previously stated, the decision on season 3 will be made after season 2 airs and any other claims are just pure speculation. The deal with Disney Plus was for 26 episodes – and we still have an entire spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, to air.' Showrunner Russell T Davies has revealed to Radio Times that he already has ideas mapped out for up to three more seasons, demonstrating his strong commitment to keeping Doctor Who thriving. However, exactly when the series will return to our screens remains uncertain. The lack of updates about the show's future has left fans feeling uneasy. That said, a recent announcement offered some consolation as a new children's series is in development for CBeebies which is set within the Doctor Who universe. Ncuti Gatwa has concluded his time as the Fifteenth Doctor after only two seasons. The exact reasons for his departure remain unclear, but he shared a statement on Instagram alongside two costars. He said: 'Three queens of the sky. Twas an experience like no other and thank God we were by eachothers side. There aren't quite the words for how much you both mean to me but I am so grateful I got the opportunity to work, learn from and laugh with you both everyday. 'You're both just simply incredible and it has been nothing short of a blessing to share this journey with both of you. Ruby Sunday and Belinda Chandra will live in mine and the Whoniverse hearts forever. Also shout out to the CAPTAIN of all 15's companions. Captain Poppy. Ultimate top dog of this season! (lil Sienna brought so much life and magic to us all on set ) I love you guys. We did it'. Fans were sad to see him leave the iconic role as one person penned: 'Best doctor since David Tennant, we wanted more time with you', while another added: 'You'll be so missed'.

Russell T. Davies Hits Pause on DOCTOR WHO's Future: 'We Don't Know What's Happening Yet' — GeekTyrant
Doctor Who might have just wrapped up its latest season with one of the wildest twists in the show's 60-year history, but behind the scenes, things sound less certain. In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, showrunner Russell T Davies admitted that the future of the series is, for the moment, in limbo. While he's made it clear that the show isn't over, the details on what's coming next are very much up in the air. Davies wrote in his production diary column: 'We don't know what's happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I'll take a pause on this page … Hopefully, we'll have news soon.' A source added: 'This letter is a production notes diary for when the show is in production, or on air, and as Russell has stated within the piece, it is a pause.' The uncertainty follows a finale that saw Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor regenerate into… Billie Piper, aka Rose Tyler, one of the most beloved companions in the modern era. Davies doubled down on the surprise without offering much in the way of clarity. 'No, not the end, don't be mad, Doctor Who will never end! There are pathways leading to potential futures – we've still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, 'Oh, hello,' yes indeed, hello Billie! And there's Susan, of course. I wonder if we'll ever find out who the Boss is. Or who the Boss are.' It's still unclear whether Piper is actually the new Doctor or part of something more experimental. Even the credits played coy, with no confirmation that she's taking over the role full-time. The BBC hasn't exactly been gentle about it either. A Dead Ringers parody of the finale skewered the twist, with the Doctor quipping, 'Laters, I'm going to regenerate into Billie Piper for clicks!' For now, the only sure thing is that a new Doctor Who spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea , is on its way. So, more Who is coming. Just maybe not in the way we expected. Via: Deadline

ITV star dies aged 76 as BBC Doctor Who's Russell T Davies leads tributes
ITV presenter and weather reporter Wincey Willis has died at the age of 76 after being diagnosed with dementia. She was a weather presenter on the ITV programme Good Morning Britain, where she made history as the UK's first national female weather forecaster. Doctor Who screenwriter Russell T Davies has shared a touching tribute to the ITV alum, reflecting on an encounter with Wincey. Read more: UK heatwave will see 26 counties in England above 30C this weekend Russell even used her name in an episode of his 90s drama series Queer as Folk. Taking to social media, he wrote: "She hunted me down. She got hold of my email address just to tell me how delighted she was to be mentioned! She was absolutely hilarious and full of joy, what a lovely woman. "We corresponded for years, having a wonderful laugh, she was a hoot. What a great career! Adored her. Well done, Wincey, night darling." Wincey died back in December 2024, though news of her passing has only just been made public. Before joining GMB, Wincey was scouted for the role by ITV's deputy editor in chief, Clive Jones, while she was a presenter for ITV in the Tyne Tees region. She originally got into television when she was invited to audition for the position of weather presenter for Tyne Tees regional TV. A year later, she was awarded her own series on Granada titled Wincey's Pets. She also featured on the game show Treasure Hunt alongside Anneka Rice, though a contract dispute led Wincey to resign from TV-am in 1987. Later in life, she hosted radio shows for BBC Coventry & Warwickshire and for BBC Hereford & Worcester. She married bed salesman Malcolm Willis in 1972 and continued to use his surname after they divorced. Wincey returned to the North East to live in Sunderland after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2015.

Doctor Who showrunner admits ‘we don't know what's happening' as future remains uncertain
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has admitted that he's still uncertain about the future of the beloved sci-fi show following the conclusion of the latest season. Ncuti Gatwa departed as the titular Doctor after season 15 came to an end last month. In a shock reveal, he was seemingly replaced by the returning Billie Piper, however, it is yet to be officially announced what character she will play. The BBC has yet to confirm if Doctor Who has been renewed, with questions remaining over the show's co-production deal with Disney+, which streams the series in the US. In a production diary for the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Davies announced a pause to the page as he awaits news. The 62-year-old wrote: 'We don't know what's happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I'll take a pause on this page… Hopefully, we'll have news soon,' Deadline quotes a source from the show as saying: 'This letter is a production notes diary for when the show is in production, or on air, and as Russell has stated within the piece, it is a pause.' The news comes as new ratings show that overall viewership was down for the latest season, which averaged around 3.2 million viewers across the eight episodes, which is half a million fewer than the previous season, as per Deadline. Davies previously addressed the future of the show in an interview with Radio Times in April. 'There's no decision until after season two,' said Davies, a month before the latest series was due to come o an end. 'It's funny, because even people who work on the show think that means we're having secret meetings about it. People I work with every year say, 'What's really happening?' and I'm going, 'Nothing! No meetings, nothing.' "That's when the decision is – and the decision won't even be made by the people we work with at Disney+, it'll be made by someone in a big office somewhere. So literally nothing is happening, no decision." Gatwa was the Doctor for just two seasons, but in a behind-the-scenes clip released on YouTube, the actor revealed that a short tenure was always the plan. According to the star, this was 'because it's a role that demands a lot of you, physically and emotionally and mentally'. Speaking on the companion show Doctor Who: Unleashed, the Sex Education star added: 'You know it's gonna happen when you get cast. You're like, 'I'm gonna have to hand this baton over one time, it's all gonna come to an end soon.' So I feel like I've been in constant preparation for that.' Gatwa, 32, called his exit from the show 'bittersweet', stating: 'I can imagine it's been for all Doctors. Just looking at the console before regenerating was like, 'My god, this console – it's been here for 60 years. And I was here for some of those years. And how magic.''

Russell T Davies insists Doctor Who 'will never end'
Russell T Davies has insisted Doctor Who "will never end". The 62-year-old showrunner has played down speculation the beloved BBC sci-fi series is being scrapped after Ncuti Gatwa's second and final season in the TARDIS, and he has claimed there is still hope for the future. He told Doctor Who Magazine: "No, not THE end, don't be mad. Doctor Who will never end! "There are pathways leading to potential futures – we've still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, 'Oh, hello,' yes indeed, hello Billie [Piper]! And there's Susan, of course." However, Russell still admitted the team "don't know what's happening yet" behind the scenes as they await a decision. He added: "I wonder if we'll ever find out who the Boss is. Or who the Boss are. (I'm still wondering who Gus is, from Mummy on the Orient Express. Maybe they're the same!) "But we don't know what's happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I'll take a pause on this page... "Hopefully, we'll have news soon, and certainly, [spin-off show] The War Between the Land and the Sea is about to break out, so there are great things ahead. Until then." Russell previously insisted while a hiatus can't be ruled out, Doctor Who will definitely be back one day. He told Newsround: "I kind of know that the Doctor's reached the status of, like, Robin Hood. "Sometimes there might be a pause, and during that pause, the viewers of Newsround now will grow up a few years and start writing stories and they'll bring it back. "So I have absolute faith that that will survive because I am living proof of it and that's what happens to good ideas. No good idea ever dies." The BBC previously dismissed reports the show was being "shelved". A spokesperson said: "This story is incorrect, Doctor Who has not been shelved. As we have previously stated, the decision on season 3 will be made after season 2 airs. "The deal with Disney+ was for 26 episodes – and exactly half of those still have to transmit. And as for the rest, we never comment on the Doctor and future storylines."
