Jesse Tyler Ferguson recalls facing the ‘loudest' criticism from gay viewers while he was on ‘Modern Family'
Jesse Tyler Ferguson is opening up about some criticism he received while playing a gay character on 'Modern Family' that hit particularly close to home. Ferguson shared that some of his 'loudest' critics came from the gay community itself, which is a pressure that he said he tends to feel frequently during Monday's episode of his podcast 'Dinner's on Me' with his guest, British actor Russell Tovey. 'One of the pressures I've always felt, specifically after being on a show like 'Modern Family,' where I'm portraying a gay man on a television show on (a) network that is as popular as it is, is that you receive criticism, as you do with anything you do,' he said, adding that 'the criticism that I think I heard at the loudest was always from the gay community.' Ferguson said he'd get criticism from some 'feeling as if maybe I didn't represent their idea of what a gay relationship was or a gay man was, which I always took with such a grain of salt because I'm representing one person, I'm in charge of this one character.' 'How can you be everything for everyone?' he asked. His played Mitchell Pritchett on the popular ABC sitcom, a gay lawyer married to Eric Stonestreet's Cameron Tucker. While he was portraying this one specific character, Ferguson said that Pritchett was, at the same time, 'a shade of who I was, so… if it's stereotypical, I'm basically playing myself, so I guess, guilty, guilty as charged.' Ferguson was nominated for five Emmys for his performance in the series, which aired from 2000 to 2009. Off screen, Ferguson is married to real-life lawyer Justin Mikita. The couple share two sons, Beckett and Sullivan, who were born in 2020 and 2022 respectively.

The Chase's Paul Sinha looks smart in a pale blue suit as he joins husband Oliver Levy at star-studded Attitude Pride Awards after revealing he suffered two heart attacks in a week
Paul Sinha looked smart as he joined his husband Oliver Levy at the Attitude Pride Awards Europe 2025 in London on Friday. The Chase star, 55, wore a pale blue linen suit which he paired with a floral patterned shirt. Posing for photos at the Peninsula, he smiled alongside Oliver, who opted for a beige jacket and matching trousers. The couple, who married in 2019, were joined by Russell Tovey and Luke Evans as the evening got underway. The event, supported by British Airways, celebrated seven inspirational queer people from the UK and wider Europe. Russell, 43, best known for his role in the BBC 's Being Human, wore a grey linen jacket, cargo trousers and a white shirt. Paul recently admitted he suffered two heart attacks in the same week but refused to call an ambulance for a 'stupid' reason. The comedian told of his ordeal on Good Morning Britain to presenters Susanna Reid, 54, and Ed Balls, 58. Paul AKA The Sinnerman said on the ITV breakfast news show that the ordeal happened while he was at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 to perform a run of shows. He explained of his set at the Scottish arts festival: 'It was a bit of a wild show. 'It was very much about my life as a gay, disabled son of immigrants but it was quite a political show, and it was a big show. 'I was in a room with 400 people in and it all got on top of me and I had two heart attacks in the same Edinburgh Fringe. Two! Week number one and week number three.' Paul explained the first heart attack happened while he was 'shaking the hand of Levi Roots', who he had been introduced to in a bar. As he greeted the businessman, known for pitching Reggae Reggae Sauce on Dragons' Den, he felt 'a crushing, tightening chest pain'. Having previously worked as a GP before entering showbusiness, the quizzer explained: 'As my years of medicine made me remember, it was not like anything I'd ever felt before and I knew it was cardiac. 'But I didn't want to cause a scene so I just walked into a cab. 'I didn't want to call an ambulance because I thought, "I might as well just get into a cab to take me to the nearest hospital as quickly as possible", which is what I did.' Susanna was incredulous at his calm response - but added this may well have gotten him to A&E more quickly, to which he replied: 'It might well have done, yeah.' Despite his suspicions it was cardiac arrest, Paul said: 'The first time, they didn't diagnose it properly so they sent me home. 'And it was the second time that they said, "These have been two small heart attacks".' But he was still determined to return to the stage as quickly as possible: 'I said, "Can I carry on?", and they said, "We're not going to tell you what to do". 'So, I carried on. But looking back on it, that's not the right thing to do. 'I know why I did it - because of the Edinburgh Festival and I didn't want to lose a huge amount of money.' Paul - now known mainly as a Chaser, putting guests' general knowledge to the test as they pursue a cash prize - was on GMB to mark being in stand-up for 30 years. Elsewhere in the interview, he said having Parkinson's disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2019, had given him fodder for his shows. He said of the neurodegenerative disease: 'I do lots of jokes about it. It's as simple as that. 'You deal with the cards you've been dealt, and if you've been given a comedy goldmine, as Parkinson's is, then you deal with it. 'I mean, as far as I'm aware, no other comedians at the Edinburgh Fringe will be talking about their own struggles with neurological degeneration so might as well be me.' Good Morning Britain is available to watch on weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and to stream on ITVX.

Teaser Trailer for the DOCTOR WHO Spinoff Series THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA — GeekTyrant
Disney+ has released the teaser trailer for the upcoming Dotor Who spinoff series The War Between The Land And The Sea , which is about sea creatures. The new show was teased at the end of the recent season of Doctor Who , and it centers on the emergence of an underwater race of humanoids called Sea Devils. This looks like a wild show, one that I didn't see coming from the Doctor Who franchise. In the story, "When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war." The War Between the Land and the Sea is 'a British sci-fi miniseries created by Russell T Davies for BBC One and Disney+. Part of the 'Whoniverse' franchise, the series is set to feature UNIT as they attempt to prevent a war caused by the return of sea creatures. 'UNIT must take action to stop a global war once an ancient species, called the Sea Devils, emerges from the sea revealing itself to humanity.' The series stars Russell Tovey as Barclay and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Salt, along with Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, Ruth Madeley, Colin McFarlane, Adrian Lukis, Patrick Baladi, and Vincent Franklin. The War Between The Land And The Sea will be coming to Disney+ later in 2025.
