Russian drone, cruise missile and bomb attacks kill at least 6 in Ukraine

Two people died and 26 were wounded when Russian forces overnight attacked the Bukovina area in the Chernivtsi region of southwestern Ukraine with four drones and a missile, regional Gov. Ruslan Zaparaniuk said Saturday. He said that the two died from falling drone debris. Another drone attack in Ukraine's western Lviv region wounded 12 people, regional Gov. Maksym Kozytskyi said. Poland's air force scrambled fighter jets in areas bordering Ukraine in response to the overnight attacks, which targeted again a region that is a crucial hub for receiving foreign military aid. Three people alsos were wounded in Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine when the city was hit by eight drones and two missiles, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. Russia fired 597 drones and decoys, along with 26 cruise missiles, into Ukraine overnight into Saturday, Ukraine's air force said. Of these, 319 drones and 25 cruise missiles were shot down and 258 decoy drones were lost, likely having been electronically jammed. Two people were killed Saturday morning in a missile strike in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional Gov. Serhii Lysak. Two other people were killed Saturday in the Sumy region by a Russian guided bomb, local officials said. Russia has been stepping up its long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities. Earlier this week, Russia fired more than 700 attack and decoy drones, topping previous nightly barrages and targeting Lutsk near the border with Poland in western Ukraine. Russia's intensifying long-range attacks have coincided with a concerted effort to break through parts of the roughly 1,000-kilometre (620-mile) front line, where Ukrainian troops are under severe pressure. Russia's Defence Ministry said it shot down 33 Ukrainian drones overnight into Saturday. One person was wounded Saturday in a Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Belgorod region and another in the Kursk region, both of which border Ukraine, local officials said.

Russian air attack damaged Boeing offices in Ukraine, FT reports
June 15 (Reuters) - A building used by Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab in Kyiv was badly damaged in a recent large-scale Russian air attack, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing six people familiar with the matter and photographs seen by the newspaper. Russia launched air attacks on Kyiv early last week, using 315 drones and seven missiles in strikes that also hit other parts of the country, Ukraine's Air Force said on Tuesday. Boeing's building was among the targets hit on Sunday night, the newspaper reported, citing two Boeing employees, three Ukrainian officials and the head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine. Despite the damage to its building in Kyiv, there had been "no operational disruption", Andriy Koryagin, deputy general director of Boeing's operation in Ukraine, told the newspaper. Another official Boeing spokesperson declined to comment to the Financial Times on the attack, except to say that the U.S. plane maker prioritises the safety and security of its employees, none of whom were harmed during the bombardment. Boeing employs more than 1,000 people across Ukraine, according to the report. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. Boeing and the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Three children – aged 8, 12 and 17 years old – were killed in Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, four people in the Kyiv region were killed, one in Mykolaiv in the south, and four in the Khmelnytskyi region, according to officials and reports. The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was a particular focus of the drone strikes. The city's mayor Vitali Klitschko said it was 'under attack' but reassured people that the 'air defences are operating' as they should. Ukraine's air force said on Sunday that Russia attacked the country with 298 drones and 69 missiles overnight, one of the largest aerial attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. It said it downed 45 missiles and 266 drones. It was 'the most massive strike in terms of the number of air attack weapons on the territory of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022,' Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesperson for Ukraine's air force, told the Associated Press. Russian air defences, meanwhile, intercepted 110 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 13 over the Moscow and Tver regions, the country's defence ministry said. There were no immediate reports of casualties. In Moscow, restrictions were imposed on at least four airports, including the main hub Sheremetyevo, the Russian civilian aviation authority said. As my colleague Peter Beaumont notes in this story, the air raids came as Russia and Ukraine exchanged hundreds more prisoners Saturday in a continuing major swap that amounted to a rare moment of cooperation amid otherwise failed efforts to reach a ceasefire. The previous night, Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack against Kyiv, injuring at least 15 people, according to officials, in what was one of the heaviest assaults since the start of the Russian invasion.
