Positive trend in Russia-US relations continues, Moscow says
The positive trend in Russia-US relations continues and has not faded, although the US administration is acting in a zigzag manner, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the RIA news agency in remarks published on Friday. 'No, I do not agree that the positive trend in relations between Moscow and Washington is fading,' RIA cited Ryabkov as saying. 'I think that the current US administration acts in a zigzag manner on this and many other issues. One killed in Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Tula region, governor says I wouldn't say they are firmly following a set course once and for all. We don't dramatize over this.'

"The Trump administration is very contradictory in its actions and statements. This does not make the work easy," Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying by the state TASS news agency. "Nevertheless," he quoted as saying, "we are persistently and consistently pursuing a course towards normalizing our relations." Ryabkov said that Russia knew how to resist any possible additional sanctions out of Washington, Interfax news agency reported. "We know how to resist sanctions. We see that in recent years we have developed tools and schemes that make it possible, by and large, to fill certain needs to a large extent through import substitution," Ryabkov said. REUTERS

Russian Deputy FM Sees Little Opportunity in Bringing Back 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov believed that there was little chance of reviving a 2015 deal at the moment to limit Iran's nuclear program, according to Reuters. 'I do not see at the moment, conditions for restoring the (Iran deal),' Ryabkov told Izvestia, referring to the 2015 accord, known as the JCPOA. Ryabkov's remarks came during an interview held before the US President Donald Trump's announcement of an agreement for a ceasefire between both Israel and Iran. 'Now is the time to redouble our efforts to achieve to come to some decisions that would help stabilize the situation,' he added. Russia has deeply condemned and regretted US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that U.S. actions had increased the number of participants in the conflict and further fueled the tensions. Peskov also stated that it was not yet clear to which extent the nuclear facilities have been damaged and whether there was a radiation hazard. In January, Russia signed a strategic partnership treaty with Iran. However, the deal did not include a mutual defense clause. Moscow had previously warned that any military intervention by the US could destabilize the entire region and plunge it into the 'abyss'. Kremlin also revealed that US President Donald Trump had not informed Russian President Vladimir Putin in detail about his planned strikes on Iran in advanced. However, they had discussed the possibility of US military intervention in general. Russian deputy foreign minister sees little chance now of reviving Iran nuclear deal
FILE PHOTO: Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov attends the BRICS Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 28, 2025. Mauro Pimentel/Pool via REUTERS/File Photo Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview published on Tuesday that he saw little chance at the moment of reviving a 2015 deal to limit Iran's nuclear programme. Ryabkov made the comments to the Izvestia news outlet before U.S. President Donald Trump announced an agreement for a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after more than a week of trading air strikes. Ryabkov was speaking after the United States launched its own strikes against Iranian nuclear sites, claiming to have "completely and totally obliterated" Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities. "I do not see at the moment, conditions for restoring the (Iran deal)," Ryabkov told Izvestia, referring to the 2015 accord, known as the JCPOA. "But this does not mean abandoning diplomacy, quite the opposite. Now is the time to redouble our efforts to achieve to come to some decisions that would help stabilise the situation." Ryabkov said Russia "understood the logic and argumentation of our friends in Tehran, and of course this means an end to the strikes an end to further escalation by the other side. "This is the clear pre-condition for our Iranian colleagues to consider their political-diplomatic options." Russia has denounced Israel's strikes on Iranian targets and Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that "unjustified" U.S. attacks on Iran's nuclear sites were pushing the world towards great danger. Russia's U.N. ambassador described U.S. arguments that Iran was moving towards creating nuclear bombs as a resumption of U.S. "fairy tales" about the Middle East. The Iran nuclear deal was clinched in 2015 with the aim of limiting Iran's nuclear programme in exchange for relief from sanctions imposed on Tehran. U.S. President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the pact in 2018 during his first term in office. The United States and Iran had been holding talks on the programme, but Iran cancelled the latest meeting after the first Israeli strikes.
