Man, woman facing charges after hitting officer, crashing SUV: N.S. RCMP
A man and a woman are facing charges after a police officer was struck by an SUV in Chester, N.S., Monday morning.
Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in a parking lot on Highway 3 just before 9 a.m.
An officer approached the suspect vehicle, a Ford Flex, and talked to the driver, who was allegedly showing signs of impairment.
Police say the driver then started the SUV and sped off, dragging the officer into a police vehicle.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was examined at the scene by EHS.
Police say the driver then sideswiped a vehicle and failed to negotiate a turn from Highway 14 onto Highway 103 before crashing into a guardrail.
The male driver and female passenger allegedly tried to flee on foot before they were arrested.
Ryan Jacob Wheeler, 37, of Stonehurst, has been charged with:
assault of a peace officer with a weapon
flight from a peace officer
operating a conveyance while prohibited
operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public
resisting arrest
Sahara Lee Dorey, 26, from Lunenburg, has been charged with resisting arrest.
Both Wheeler and Dorey were remanded into custody and appeared in Bridgewater provincial court on Tuesday.
They were released on conditions and are scheduled to return to court on Aug. 20.
Police say their investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Nova Scotia RCMP Collision and Reconstruction Service.
