Exeter sign Brentford midfielder Brierley on loan
Exeter City have signed Brentford midfielder Ethan Brierley on a season-long 21-year-old's sole first-team appearance for the Premier League side came as a substitute in the EFL Cup two years ago. He joined the Bees from Rochdale in June 2023 and has spent the past two seasons playing for their B team after impressing for Dale as a teenager in League One and League Two. He follows fellow Brentford youngster Ryan Trevitt, who had two half-season loan spells at Exeter, over the past two seasons. "He's somebody we know a lot about and we've been tracking him for a long time," City manager Gary Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon."I feel like this is the right opportunity and moment for him to come and show what he can do."He's an energetic midfield player, quite similar to Ryan Trevitt in how he can build deeper, but he can also attack the box and have quality in the final third."

Exeter midfielder Trevitt likely to miss run-in
Exeter City's on-loan Brentford midfielder Ryan Trevitt is likely to miss the rest of the 22-year-old, who has impressed in two spells at St James Park, injured his hamstring in the 2-1 win at Barnsley on Tuesday in the game at Oakwell, Trevitt had scored his first goal since re-joining the Grecians in the winter transfer window."It's a huge blow," Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon."It took him a couple of games to get going but since then he's been absolutely outstanding."For me, he's a top, top player who's had two spells here and both of them he's shown his quality and he's shown, for me, he's way above the level."I'm sure he'll have an amazing career where he plays at a higher level than he's at. He's a big loss to us because of the quality that he has." Trevitt's first loan spell at Exeter was cut short in January 2024 after he suffered a serious injury that prematurely ended a season-long had scored five goals in 23 games for the Grecians in his first taste of senior league football, including scoring two goals against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup fourth went on to make his Premier League debut for Brentford at Tottenham last September before re-joining Exeter earlier this year."His biggest quality for me is his ability to see space, get there and then his quality of finishing, as we saw in his first time here, is very high," Caldwell added."He can do everything as a midfielder."He can build as a six, he can arrive in the box from deeper positions with energy, out of possession he's been brilliant for us, winning the ball back high, protecting the backline, so he's really an old school all-round midfielder."
