Rye Brook sergeant charged with misdemeanor after altercation with woman in Lewisboro
A Rye Brook police sergeant is facing a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an off-duty altercation with a woman after a fireworks show in Lewisboro.
Paul D'Amore was charged with third-degree attempted assault after the June 28 incident at Onatru Farm Park on Elmwood Road.
According to the woman's complaint, she was upset when she saw D'Amore driving fast. When he stopped in traffic she went up to his car and banged on his window. D'Amore allegedly got out, put his hands around her neck, cursed at her and pushed her against a car.
The arrest was first reported by News 12.
D'Amore is due back in Lewisboro Justice Court on Aug. 18. His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
D'Amore joined the Rye Brook Police Department in 2011 and was promoted to sergeant five months ago.
Chief Eric Dengler said D'Amore has been assigned to desk duty. He declined to comment on the arrest while the court case was pending.
