Jo Yu-ri says she didn't expect her 'Squid Game' role to be this difficult

Jun-hee has to be extra careful in the game due to her condition. Photos: Handout Actress Jo Yu-ri, who plays Kim Jun-hee or Player 222, confesses she was a huge fan of the Squid Game when the first season was released in September 2021. 'I remember watching S1 with my family and thinking to myself, 'I really, really want to be part of a show like this',' recalls the 23-year-old to StarLifestyle in this exclusive Zoom interview to talk about the series' third season. 'What felt so fresh to me was the concept of turning innocent childhood games into something deadly. It was something I had never seen before – shocking, yet incredibly original," she adds. Hence, when she got the chance to audition for S2, she jumped at it. However, Jo says that she had no idea what was in store for her character who turns up at the game, very much pregnant. 'The audition script I received was a dialogue between Jun-hee and Myung-gi (Player 333 portrayed by Im Si-wan). Im Si-wan (left) and Jo Yu-ri play former lovers in the show. Photo: AP 'I knew the role would be challenging, but I didn't expect it to be this difficult,' she shares, smiling at the memory. The level of difficulty she faced is especially impressive considering Jo made her acting debut in 2022's Mimicus and had appeared in just one episode of another K-drama, Work Later, Drink Now 2 (2023), ahead of Squid Game. Prior to acting, she was best known as a member of the South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One. While she says there were many challenges as Jun-hee, her biggest concern was playing a pregnant woman convincingly. 'I kept wondering – what if real mothers feel my performance isn't believable, that it lacks authenticity? 'That thought weighed heavily on me. "But thanks to support from my co-star Kang Ae-Shim (who plays Jang Geum-Ja or Player 149), as well as friends and mothers I spoke with, I was able to overcome those fears and carry the part successfully.'

‘Cobra Kai' star Alicia Hannah-Kim accuses Martin Kove of assaulting and biting her at fan convention

Looks like Martin Kove may have taken his character John Kreese's motto a little too far. The 'Cobra Kai' actor, 78, was reportedly kicked out of the Washington State fan convention after being accused of assaulting his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim over the weekend. Hannah-Kim told an officer working the fan event that Kove allegedly bit her arm, and when she yelled out in pain, he 'began kissing' the area. 6 Martin Kove attends the '1923' S2 Premiere at Harmony Gold on February 19, 2025. Getty Images for Paramount+ According to an informational police report obtained by People, Hannah-Kim claimed the alleged attack happened when she tapped Kove on the shoulder to greet him at their cast booth. 'Martin Kove suddenly grabbed her arm and bit her upper arm so hard it nearly drew blood, and she yelled out in pain,' the documents read. 'Once Martin Kove finished biting her arm, he grabbed her arm again and began kissing it where he had bit her.' Hannah-Kim — who starred alongside Kove as Kim Da-Eun for Season 5 and 6 of the Netflix series — claimed her husband, Sebastian Roche, was there and witnessed the alleged attack. When the pair confronted the actor, he reportedly 'exploded on them' while insisting 'he did not do anything wrong.' She found an on-site officer, who noted that she 'had a very noticeable bite mark on her arm that was already turning blue and bruising,' per the report. 6 Alicia Hannah-Kim attends the 'Karate Kid: Legends' Premiere. 'He thought he was being funny, and they play fight all the time on the set of Cobra Kai, and he did not think it was a big deal,' the report stated. When the officer informed Kove that his alleged assault was illegal and would 'not be tolerated in the future,' the actor responded that 'he was just messing around' and 'did not mean for it to be perceived as illegal.' 6 Alicia Hannah-Kim. Kove was then 'escorted out of Summer Con,' per the report. The Post reached out to Kove's reps for comment. The actor found fame as John Kreese in the 1984 movie 'The Karate Kid.' He reprised the role for Parts 2 and 3 of the film franchise. He joined Netflix's show 'Cobra Kai' in 2018 and starred in the series until showrunners announced it would not be returning after Season 6.

The Royals season 2 announced, creator Rangita Pritish Nandy says they listened to both 'good and ugly' feedback

The Royals, Netflix's much-talked-about rom-com series, was renewed for a second season weeks after its release. The Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer has been a success for the streamer, trending in 58 countries and remaining atop the India charts for weeks. But the critic's reviews for the show were mixed. Several online reactions were also quite critical. As the show's second season has been greenlit, the creators say they have made note of all the feedback that came their way. (Also read: Exclusive | The Royals, Black Warrant, Maamla Legal Hai to return with S2 on Netflix; Mismatched set to end run with 4th) Rangita Pritish Nandy, the co-creator of The Royals, says the team is 'still mapping that based of our learnings and findings on season 1', but will push the envelope in season 2. "what's clear is that we will continue to push through on the romantic comedy heart of our show whilst adding newer royalty, their intriguing echo chambers and inner worlds, crack new characters," she adds. Addressing taking into account the criticism and other feedback the show has received, Rangita says, "We would be foolish not to. The joy is in listening, the good and the ugly, and then transcribing that to hit season goals." The Royals stars Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter, along with Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Pandey, Vihaan Samat, and Sumukhi Suresh. Netflix also announced the return of two other popular shows on Wednesday. Joining The Royals is Vikramaditya Motwane's critically acclaimed prison drama Black Warrant. The second season will bring back Zahaan Kapoor as jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta for newer adventures in the Tihar Jail. Maamla Legal, the quirky comedy set in a fictitious district court in East Delhi, will also return on Netflix. Starring Ravi Kishan, the show received unanimously positive reviews upon its release in 2024. No release date or window has been announced for any of the shows so far.
