Crowdfunding a dream: Bengaluru students build racecar for national event

Bengaluru: Twenty-three engineering students of BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology in the city are racing against time — and budget constraints — to complete their dream project: Building a Formula Student racecar for a national competition next month. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Saranyu Racing Team, part of the college's sports car club, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the final Rs 3 lakh needed to complete the car. Its poster reads: "Help us build more than a car, help shape the next generation of engineers." The car is being built for the SAE Supra national-level competition, set to take place in Aug at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. With an overall budget of Rs 20 lakh, the students have already raised Rs 17 lakh through sponsorships, alumni support, and contributions from the college management. "We knocked on every possible door. Some alumni not only contributed money but also guided us through technical hurdles. But with the bodywork and component procurement still pending, we turned to crowdfunding," said Yashas M, a 2023 graduate and founding member of the club. This is the college's second time at the competition. Last year, Saranyu finished 35th in the internal combustion category and eighth in the business plan event, among 70 teams. It topped the sales presentation and cost evaluation segments, and came second in design reports at FFS India Season 5. The sports car club, founded in 2022, includes students from all engineering streams and semesters, making it a truly multidisciplinary effort. Ten of the 23 members are women. In Bengaluru, student car clubs are serious business, and the city usually has around 10 colleges regularly participating in competitions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In some tier-1 colleges, getting into their clubs is more difficult than cracking their entrance exams. "We're proud that with limited resources, we can compete with teams from IITs," said Hemang Vishwanath Gowda, a second-year electronics and instrumentation student. Priyanka K, a second-year electronics and communication student, will drive the car during the dynamic event at the competition. "The adrenaline rush of hitting the tracks makes all the sleepless nights worth it," she said. College secretary M Mahadeva said: "Our institution believes in empowering students to realise their dreams. This Formula Student car project reflects our commitment to student-led innovation."

Aludecor Accelerates Innovation by Empowering India's Top Student Racing Team

In a landmark move blending innovation, engineering excellence, and a passion for nurturing young talent, Aludecor proudly announces its collaboration with Team Kratos Racing Electric, the official Formula Student team of Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), Pune. This dynamic partnership reinforces Aludecor's commitment to pushing boundaries not just in the construction sector, but across futuristic mobility and student-driven innovation. Team Kratos Racing Electric, a 43-member student-led powerhouse, has become a beacon of India's engineering potential. With an impressive tally of seven national titles including three SAE Supra and four Formula Bharat championships. The team has now etched its name on the global stage by securing 7th place at Formula Student Germany 2023. This achievement makes them the only Indian team in the prestigious international Top 10. Engineering Breakthroughs with Aluminium Honeycomb Technology What sets this feat apart is the revolutionary monocoque chassis at the heart of the race car crafted from Prepreg Carbon Fibre reinforced with Aluminium Honeycomb Panels. When Team Kratos needed custom-engineered aluminium honeycomb cores with precision specifications such as cell size, core thickness, and foil density, they turned to Aludecor. Despite Aluminium Honeycomb Panels not being a standard offering in Aludecor's portfolio, the company rose to the challenge. From concept to execution, Aludecor collaborated closely with the student team to design lightweight, high-strength honeycomb structures that delivered exceptional performance and safety under track conditions. A Partnership Built on Purpose This collaboration extends beyond a simple product delivery. It marks a strategic pivot for Aludecor—long known as a trailblazer in Metal Composite Panels to expand its impact into emerging sectors like electric mobility and automotive composites. 'Aludecor's contribution was vital not just as a material supplier, but as a true partner in innovation,' said Team Kratos Racing Electric. The relationship exemplifies how forward-thinking companies can empower India's brightest engineering minds while developing real-world applications of advanced composite materials. Driving Sustainable and Electric Mobility As the world shifts toward electric vehicles and sustainable engineering solutions, collaborations like this symbolize a new era of possibilities. Aludecor's involvement bridges the gap between cutting-edge material science and the growing demands of e-mobility, racing innovation, and lightweight construction. By supporting the student innovators of Team Kratos, Aludecor isn't just helping build a better car, it's helping build the future. About Aludecor Aludecor is a market leader in architectural surface materials and a pioneer in the Metal Composite Panels segment in India. The company is known for its unmatched product innovation, robust quality standards, and a future-forward mindset.
